Peek under the seat.. is that a cover? .. or is the original upholstery still intact?

Re: barn find 67 c-10
My plans for the interior are to clean it up install vintage air. I think the coolest part of the truck is where the paint is worn off the top of the door where her dads arm rested for many years. I havent removed the seat cover yet but I can tell the vinyl is still under it, But I dont know what shape its in. Does anyone have any advice on buffing this truck. I'm a mechanic by trade and have done some body work but for some reason buffing scares me. I dont want to ruin anything. I did a spot about 6 inches in diameter on the hood by hand and it actually had some shine to it.

Sweet truck! I love the family aspect to the story. I hope you realize how lucky you are, both with the truck and the mother inlaw. All my mother inlaw does is give me grief:)

Re: barn find 67 c-10
Yes, her name is Sally. When I drug her out of the barn her left front wheel wouldnt roll. I told my momma-in-law "she doesnt want to go" as i was being drug through her yard by my father-in-law. She yelled out "SALLY, YOU'D BETTER STRAIGHTEN UP" almost immediately the wheel started rolling. LOL
Yes, I know how VERY blessed I am!! This truck is just a small example of how blessed I am! |

Re: barn find 67 c-10
Awesome truck and story!
If you are scared of buffing, a good hand compounding will do it, but slower. Nothing to be scared of if you have a dedicated polisher that is low speed. A lot of people put a buffe wheel on a grinder and it's too fast and will burn the paint. Try to move around a lot and not stay in one place, and keep a lot of paste on it while youre working. YOU CAN DO IT! |
Re: barn find 67 c-10
Funny that it has the offset air cleaner for power brakes, but no power brakes... I am sure back in the day on the assembly line they put whatever was handy on them...

Re: barn find 67 c-10
I bet that 6 would have fired up & ran for years. i would have left the drivetrain stock & lowered it to the ground!

Re: barn find 67 c-10
Great truck & story! I've got a 54,000 mile farm truck I bought in Arkansas & I hand rubbed it out- the paint is so thin I didn't want to take it down to the primer- turned out nice.

Re: barn find 67 c-10

Ok, so i got out to the shop early saturday morning to get the front end stripped. At some point in this trucks life it was driven on a country road that was being tarred and graveled. The A-frames were coverd!

So I started attempting to buff the paint on Sally.
The first photo shows the paint on the hood, the second shows a spot that I did by hand, the third is half the hood done. |
