I'd ditch the spotlight, but I actually like those barden bumpers on stockers

Re: Love thy neighbor .....66' short fleet.

The spotlight up there is unique.. weird, but unique. Those wraparound bumpers are an acquired taste I think. It matches my truck exactly, kinda like a little brother, so I'd probably keep it ..but on the other hand, a sport bumper would look right at home.

You shouldn't burden yourself with replacing the bumper and deciding on the spotlight. You should just sell it to me! lol

Thanks guys so much, you know I saw this truck last December driving down the road to the auto parts store, I inquired about buying it back then....speaking to the spry owner age 94 I believe (and he was being driven ), he said it was very rare to find a 292/auto combo (is that true?) so he would want an outrages amount of money for it. Here,s a few more pic's. :chevy:

Great find! That is absolutely correct. I talked to the owner when he took this truck to the January Turlock swap meet with a for sale sign on it about 3 or 4 years ago. Many stopped and looked, but walked away when he wasn't budging on price. He was asking around 8K-10K. Said people in foreign countries would easily pay that much for his truck. He said he special ordered that truck when new because no trucks on the lot where set up with a big 6 and auto. He is correct, it is a rare combo. Try to find another one for sale with a 292-auto. He said it was a great truck, never had any mechanical repairs, and was perfect to go out to ranch properties for business. The biggest mistake he said was having the truck repainted, should have left it with the original paint. By the way, be sure to take photos of the automatic linkage on intake and carb, many have requested photos of this setup over the last few years, but nobody could come up with any photos on this site.

I am planing to replace the bumper with a matching painted white sport style bumper. ("if" I can find one )

Ditch the spotlight.
I'd make some kind of cool patina looking cover with a rubber gasket,... and save the spotlight for the new owner.
The other option is to fill it and paint the roof.
(maybe this can be done when you do the BBW mod. hint, hint)

All of this really depends on this one being a "keeper".

Wow!!

You always here people talk about locating and buying a nice barn find. This the first time I have seen someone locate and buy a nice sitting on the crapper find. You should paint an old school patina looking slogan on the doors to match your concrete truck. Here is an example.

Hey Julius!
As I recall, I was visiting you last summer when I spotted this truck in the Oreillys parking lot & then I told you. Wasn't that what really happened?::pty:

Wow, I never saw it at the Turlock swapmeet and I attend every single one but back then I was only looking for 67-72 trucks (closed mind ) however I did find a "for sale" sign hand written on a folder under the seat of the truck probably the same sign you saw, on the protecto plate it listed the truck being sold to the owners real estate business on 10-12-65, I also found out in the folder that he used it to start his cattle business on June 18 1985, how cool!!! :chevy: The owner did tell me about taking the the truck back to the Merced Chevy dealership for the repaint using the correct original color, you know how the old guys are about being original!

we will see how "outrageous" his asking price was when the king flips it :lol::lol:

amazing that the original ones are still out there. I lived on a street about 12 years, and about the 11th I saw my 80 yr old neighbor two houses away pull a bone stock 15k mile type 2 double cab out of the garage. Talked to him about a hundred times, stood within a few feet of it more than once. never had a clue it was there

WOW, a great solid truck! The story makes it even more amazing. The roof spotlight and the street Ell exhaust "turndown" make it. All the best, Dirk

Yes, a couple months ago I found a super clean 1953 Chevy Bel-Air in a barn that was almost walking distance from my house and didn't have a clue about it, sometimes you never know. :chevy:
