can you prime right after using the wheel? or do you need a finer grit to remove those scratches made by the stripper wheel?

I prime after but I also spray with filler primer and block everything. It could use a finer grit after the wheel.

I finally decided to cut my nice long bed side figured it's not doing me no good as a long bed. It's funny the one thing you want to be short in life never is.

You make it look easy. Does the hand saw keep the long cuts straight?

no i was just screwing around thought it would be a funny pic. there is a purposes for the hand saw, i used the back side as a straight edge to draw the marks on the bed as you can make it conform to the shape of the bed easy. the real cuts where made using a angle grinder with a cutoff wheel on it. now the only problem is the long bed wheel opening appears to be bigger by 2 inches.

I decided I am just going to shorten the front of the bed and make a medium bed. If you Guys are trying to shorten your bed, measure your one side and cut it ,keep the piece you cut out it makes a handy template.

Nice progress. I like the idea of a medium bed, especially on a fleetside. The proportions look perfect, and will drive people nuts trying to figure out if it's long or short!

Re: one piece at a time

Yea still toying with the idea just not shure yet I still have to lengthen the frame. I have also located a nice short fleet bed . I may just save this bed for my other truck that's all apart as well. Before I Was not able to find a bed that was nice enough to start with I have 3 beds but all a rough,so hopefully the 4th time is the charm.

Well got some etch primer on the cab looks funny in the pic due to the paint isn't dry for 1 and 2 it's over Bondo which acts like a spuge and sucks up a lot of paint.

Well finally popped out all the old seam sealer and ground back to bear metal. I dug my nice gmc hood out of the mower shed. Painted the inside of the cab corners and lower part of the cab with por15 .i cut a massive hole in the cowl to get to the inner seam to reseal it.

Do you need to replace the gasket around the flap door? I was not able to find the gasket online anywhere.

I am doing the same project and thinking i can cut a bicycle inner tube to make the gasket.

Good luck.

Just a thought.
Long beds had 3 stake pockets.
Short beds had 2 stake pockets.
Will yours have 2 ?
Nice truck by the way.

No actual progress but I did get 2 ax15 transmissions 5 speeds for the truck.one is parts due to the fact the input shaft and idler shaft have no teeth. the other trans seams to be okay but going to overhaul it and get a adapter to mount it up to the stock bell housing.

Cut a giant hole in my trans tunnel or I cut the trans tunnel out don't know I guess it's how you look at it. This solved my problem of all the patches and holes from all the different shifters. Going to make a removable trans tunnel from another trans tunnel I cut out of a parts truck. then attach it with thread inserts.
Hope it makes the 5 speed swap easier.

You are doing some fine work, sir. I live in Denton and I have had several run ins with people who do not appreciate our fondness for fine vintage automobiles. I have always thought I would move out to Justin or someplace like that and tell those city people to get happy... :sumo:
