Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside
So the previous owner threw in this fender when I bought the truck, I've been practicing bodywork and stuff on it,
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...507_222738.jpg Here it is covered in tractor enamel, http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...507_232120.jpg Stuff is brittle, and ran like crazy no matter what I did. I don't recommend it. It's also easily wipes off with acetone lol, http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...510_145421.jpg So, the infamous Rustoleum, http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...514_134115.jpg Orange peeled pretty good, http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...514_134121.jpg That mostly leveled out though, looked ok, except, I could see every single scratch and whatnot from sanding, even though it has Rustoleum primer underneath it. The stuff just doesn't build enough. So, I ordered some real primer, 2k urethane, from Tamco, and I'll be using real paint on it. I know people use these things and they work, but it didn't work for me... |
Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside
Cut the stupid/possibly wrong front bumper off today,
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...517_143208.jpg Tried to get the outer rocker lined up better, couldn't get it to drop down far enough. I think I might have my inner welded up too high. |

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...8494449149.jpg It was all sort's of kittywampus before lol. Tilted back, bent, I don't think the previous owner modified the bracket like in that link lol. |

Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside
Took me three hours of cutting, grinding, and hammering, but I got my bedsides off this weekend,
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...2_160318_1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...522_160325.jpg There was a CB or something in the cab roof, http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...522_160758.jpg And my hideous drip rails the PO painted over with Krylon http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...2_161318_1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...522_163730.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...522_201309.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...2_205318_1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...2_205324_1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...523_154651.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...523_154659.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...523_154729.jpg That's all for this week folks! |
Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside
3 hours to get the bed sides off...living in the rust belt, that seems pretty fast. I know when I was taking my truck apart I would hope the bolts would break. It is so much easier than having to spin the rusty nut all the way off.

I spent some more time trying to get my door and rocker into agreement, and finally came to the conclusion that I welded the inner too high, so I cut it all back out :waah: |
Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside
Well, I have all day tomorrow and all day Monday to work on it, so I'm hoping to get it ready for primer and paint this week.
Summit won't ship paint to Michigan for some reason, but TCP Global didn't mind, so that's en route. I already have my primer, I just found a fender on FB, so hopefully it comes together this week. |
Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside
I like the stepper. Loved those trucks growing up. Built a pretty reasonable Lego version, haha. Any chance of fixing your early pictures? Page one is all dead. Good luck on it this weekend, sorry you had to do some rework.

I drowned my backup DD this weekend wheeling, so I really need to kick this project into high gear, I'm uncomfortable with one vehicle. |

Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside
I wound up buying a K2500 for a driver/work truck, and it wasn't in fabulous shape, so the C10 has been sitting in the driveway all summer long awaiting me to have the funds and time to get back to it.

Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside
I've taken two days off in two weeks so I can get the new inner and outer rocker on and get the thing in paint before winter.

Just my opinion: Along with removing the hideous drip rails also remove the hideous side marker lights.
I think it looks much cleaner. |
Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside
What happened, I thought you were going to paint it yourself? I bet your excited to get it back!

What color did you go with? If you don't mind me asking, what did they estimate that it's going to cost you?

It's going to be a dark red, of some shade or another. My full paint job will be 2150 using bc/cc if I pick a tri-coat color it will add to the cost. |
Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside
Well, he was quite insistent on painting it without letting me see the inner and outer rocker, so I'm picking it up Saturday and looking for another shop.
