Re: my C10 project....building a truck from a heap of parts
need help identifying whats in these pics:
Any idea what the green/white thing is? https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/569/31...df262c9f_b.jpgUntitled by , on Flickr Also, these 3 wires were cut originating from the stock harness, any thoughts here? https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/595/32...9870a4ce_b.jpgUntitled by , on Flickr |
Re: my C10 project....building a truck from a heap of parts
overall the wiring harness looks to be fairly in tact, definitely not perfect......maybe 4-6 wire taps total, 2 off the front headlights, 1 under the dash, 3 out by the taillights.

I think possibly the green and white box may be a buzzer for when you leave the keys in ignition. I'm guessing honestly.

Crunch Time!!! Soooooo, I had a bead on a rust free A/C cab.........negotiated price.......dude stop responding to texts/emails.................weird:confused: So unless one falls in my lap the current plan is to repair the cab in my garage. Initially I was only considering the cost of a rust free cab vs the cost of repair panels and a MIG welder..........after thinking about it some more I realized there are other benefits to repairing my current rusted cab over doing the swap besides just experience......a big one is available storage space......I really don't have much, so with the cab attached to the chassis it allows be to work on it without having to come up with extra space to store all the parts once I take them off.......I live in an HOA so outside storage is a no go here. |
Re: my C10 project....building a truck from a heap of parts
Space is always a problem.

Good job on figuring out the reality of what you're trying to achieve with the two trucks. There's certainly nothing wrong with moving forward and having the plan evolve. But sitting down and figuring out what you have and what you like to do with it has the benefit of a targeted outcome. For me 'build as you go' ends up taking more time and costing more money. Good luck with the work and thanks for bringing us along. |

Quick update....these college courses are absolutely crushing all my free time! I did, however, manage to send Mr. Brooks of Built by Brooks some $$ for his LWB to SWB bolt together kit! Stoked on that purchase and looking forward to the simplicity it offers! I also managed to set a little time aside this weekend to sneak away for a morning junkyard trip (fingers crossed I find some goodies!) Still on the hunt for a rust free cab and short bed in my area (harder than it sounds!) but overall still collecting parts. I do have a side project coming up that will free up some much needed garage space. Going to build a storage shed on the side of the house for some heavy storage and to get all the garden equipment and kids toys out of my Space A!! I know :waah:, not much of an update but such is my life at least for this year anyway! Thanks for tuning in! (maybe too much coffee going on here; I see a lot of ! in my post):uhmk: |
Re: my C10 project....building a truck from a heap of parts
That LWB to SWB kit by Built by Brooks is excellent!!! I just got done using it!! Make sure to get a couple high-quality 7/16 drill bits, you'll need them. Again, kit is of extremely high quality.

Re: my C10 project....building a truck from a heap of parts
I sat looking at these in the heat for quite some time, comparing them to the C10 bumpers and I actually like the shape of these a bit better than the truck bumpers....we'll see what I can make out of them...

Re: my C10 project....building a truck from a heap of parts
so I think I'm going to go ahead and do the opposite of what most do.....seriously considering pulling the sbc350 and putting in a 250 inline 6! On the hunt for a solid shortblock, or at least block and crank!.........putting more thought into it but I don't think a 250 Inline 6/TH350 combo would be so bad.
