I took a very fast look back through this thread and could not find where anyone had told you to get rid of that fixed-length rod that you made.

Make a new longer rod with one or two bends in it. This new rod with a bend(s) should be bent to approximate the length of your old fixed length rod. This will allow you to open or close the bent to make the needed length adjustment.

Don't know if you finally got this figured out but if not, I just stumbled across a website that has a lot of quadrajet parts. Even the choke rod you are looking for. Here is the link: http://www.carburetion.com/

Looks like it might be a good site to keep for future stuff also.
