Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
Nope. My '69 has been in the family since before I was born. Each new generation of Silverados get sexier but no way would I sell or trade my '69. Now if I had the money, my dream truck is a Chevy 1 ton dually crew cab diesel lifted with mud tires with duel exhaust stacks and a big American flag and a bumper sticker that reads "EPA approved"

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
My 69 C20 is the only vehicle I currently own. My daily driver is a company car from the dealership. I am surrounded and drive new vehicles all day and they are such a huge improvement from our trucks. However, I really enjoy driving my truck when I am off work and find joy in the simplicity not to mention the big block sound! I would not use my C20 for a daily driver for several reasons but most importantly the fuel consumption is atrocious. The big joke when my daughter and I head out for a cruise is we need to stop for gas again. I have worked for Toyota and Lexus my whole life so it would probably be a Tundra if I did trade(but I won't).

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
Absolutely not! New vehicles with all their tech do nothing for me. I'm anti-tech. I don't even have a smart phone and don't want one. My DD is an 01, and that feels incredibly new. I only have it because the supply of cheap old vehicles has dried up.
I can't see myself ever willingly selling my 69 910. |

I guess I should have stated I have a 2008 LTZ Tahoe to drive + my wives 2011 Treverse my daughter 2000 S 10. I also have my 64 SS Impala and the 56 Bel Air, MZ Edna. I don't need no more vehicles at the moment. I do enjoy the newer vehicles. But I love the old ones! :chevy: |
Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
Well, hell yeah, I'd trade mine for a brand new 50-60k truck, as i'd be at least 45k ahead in value. Then i'd sell the brand new truck to buy a really nice 67-72, and pocket the rest of the money. I drove my 70 short/step to get a load of mulch last weekend, helping a landscaper do a project, and got told that it was the nicest looking mulch delivery vehicle she'd ever seen, and then another compliment when I stopped at the store just a short while later. I doubt I'd have even gotten a second look in a new truck.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
my 72 has no sentimental value. I love the truck, but I would prefer an ochre 71. So, yes I would trade mine. And then I would sell the new one, and buy a nice 4wd driver like Special-K has, and a nice 2wd for cruising. My 2001 Silverado has nearly 200K on it, and it suits me fine. I don't need a new one.

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
I should add something to my previous responses.
If you had caught me one of the times everything went totally dead with smoke pouring from the wiring, I would have made that trade on the spot, no question about it. Luckily we're past that now (fingers crossed). ;) |

No way I'd trade, no matter how nice. It's not about the money, my '71 can't even be bought. We've been together too long (25 years). I do like my '18 z71 though. Maybe I'll feel the same about it in 25 years?

Some days I would trade my 72 for something I could drive year around but not necessarily for a new truck. I’ve been watching for a 88-06 4x4. I can’t see getting a loan for a new truck.
It ain’t a show truck but it’s as rust free as an almost 47 year old Kansas truck gets. |
Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
My '72 was getting some insurance work done at the paint shop recently and when I went to pick it up, the shop handed me a card from the owner of a forklift business. He saw my truck outside and stopped and asked if he could buy it. The paint shop explained it was a customers truck and was probably not for sale, he told them everything was for sale and wanted them to call me to have me name my price, he said whatever I wanted he would pay. My father in law bought the truck new and my wife remembers the day her dad drove it home and I have good memories of going fishing with him in this truck. It will never be for sale, it will stay in the family!

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
One big additional reason to drive my C10 for me is that yes - the new technology is amazing in what the new one's can do but there is far too much more that can break. I read that Chevy is going to be putting turbo 4 bangers in all their trucks soon. I don't know if that's true but I drove one and it had extreme torque. It impressed me but back to cost - somewhere in the 2000's car prices jumped and they jumped faster than the normal cost of inflation we see. I remember in the 90's thinking super hard on a $15,000 new truck. Back then 4 or 5 year loans were the max as well. Now, you can finance for 7 years! And you need to because prices have climbed into the small house range. It's crazy. Any used 90's Chevy would be a good back up for me. Something to use when I want more stability, etc..But prices have gone nuts. That is why I have my 97 Nissan Hardbody, say what you will but it has 200K, doesn't leak a drop of anything and climbs like a billy goat =) Good back country rig.

Wow-that seems so wrong to me. Cylinders working twice as hard, turbos to break but if you can have good mileage AND power what more could ya want.

Yeah here's the specs:
2.7 L I-4 mated to 8-speed auto 310HP @5600 rpm 348LB/FT @1500-4000 MPG: 20/23 GM notes that the vast majority of these trucks will be sold with a v8. http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/chevr...erado-engines/ Quote:

I had a chance to do an even up a few years back. You know what I told hm? Your crazy for offering and I'm crazy for not taking the offer.:smoke:

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
I am in the no camp. My 78 fulfills all my newer vehicle requirements, even though I am constantly lamenting that it is not a simalarly equipped 67-72.
Even though it is still an old, 'easy to work on' carbed 70's truck, it has too many of the features that drew me to the 67-72's. The interior and dash is built much like my Malibu, and everything is less accessible than the 67-72. And the noticeably less rugged interior irritates me too. A brand new truck would drive me right up the wall. I like my old trucks and will continue to drive them as long as gas is there to burn |

I have over 120,000 miles on both my newer vehicles. Not one thing done to the Tahoe are the Traverse other than oil changes. My daughters 2000 S 10 has 250,000 on it. The S 10 has had a few things done but it has served us well. Nothing major. All of them are stock.:chevy: |
Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
Done! Where can I take it to trade? I love my old pickup, but it has no sentimental value. A used 2018 sells for a fortune so I could sell it and easily buy another '70 pickup or 2 with plenty to spare.
Family member the other day asked if I'd run to Eden to pick up a table and chairs. Only 50 miles each way but I told them I would trust my old pickup to go that far. It would probably make it no problem, but the farthest I drive it is about 15 miles or less to Winston-Salem, Kernersville or High Point. |

Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
Its a difficult question to answer. My initial thought is why trade an appreciating asset for a depreciating asset? Thinking it through if someone wanted to trade a $60,000 truck I could immediately sell for $50,000 for a truck worth $35,000 I would probably do it and look for another one to rebuild.
This thread got me thinking of the escalating cost of new trucks. My personal experience on the trucks I have purchased: 1979 Silverado Short Box 4 x 4 - loaded $10,500 MSRP 1985 GMC Sierra Classic Short Box 4 x 4 - loaded $15,300 MSRP 2003 Silverado SS Short Box AWD - loaded $38,500 MSRP Each one is more advanced than the previous (well maybe not the GMC, it had a 305 . . .) but I am willing to bet the cost increase is outpacing the increase in the average wage. |
Re: Would you trade your glamour truck for a brand new Chevy?
I think its funny how many people on this thread say they are "anti-new tech", while typing that into their computer........
That said, I'd probably trade my rusty old '71 for a new one straight across, but only because it would be financially stupid not to. but, since that will never happen, I will keep driving it, and as to what others have said about old vehicles not being reliable enough to drive across country, I wouldn't hesitate to hop in mine and drive it anywhere, of course it does have a newer engine and trans, so that helps. |
