Where did you find the oil? Did it come with the kit from AA?

UPS came through today and delivered my Advance Adapters kit and a new flat transmission cover. I modified the other new cover to work with my shifters with the SM465, but now it'll need to be different so I'm starting over. I got the special oil on Wednesday. This evening, I shortened the output shaft according to the AA instructions, and installed the new tail shaft housing. All of the pictures I've seen of the adapter housing, it was aluminum. I was pleasantly surprised to get it and it was heavy cast iron. Earlier in the week, I cleaned and painted the transmission. I might get a chance to do the swap this weekend...

FYI : if AA sent you all cap screws, make sure they're all SAE & not metric (I got a mixed bag of both in my kit), & suggest that you buy or make studs in place of the bolts that connect the T-case to the trans. Not only did my cap screws come loose (while I was driving!), I had to make a special tool to tighten the cap screws, which probably contributed to them coming loose in the 1st place.

By the time I smelled the oil leak - I lost enough trans fluid to burn both main brgs & burn 3rd gear...

I bought a 2 ft piece of B-7 boiler allthread for the studs and grade 8 lock washers and nuts and haven't had any problems since.

Yes, there was a bag of hardware, both meteric and SAE. The back of the transmission takes the 8 metric bolts, the adapter and NP205 take the SAE. The thread pitches on both are close, and the SAE will thread into the metric holes, but not good. I installed everything over the weekend, and used thread locker on all hardware. The cap screws are tight to get to in a couple spots, but nothing I haven't encountered before. I cut a small piece of an allen wrench down, and used a 5/16" wrench to run it down snug, then was able to tighten them with a ratchet after that.

Yep, I made the same tool & used loctite as well but the cap screws still came loose. I don't abuse my truck but still had the problem hence my post.

I guess the person packing up my kit wasn't paying attention as the kit came with extra metric & not enough SAE fasteners.

I'll keep an eye on them and see if they stay tight. There was 8 metric bolts for the tall housing, 8 SAE for the figure 8 to round transfer case adapter, and 6 SAE for mounting the adapter to the tail housing. I opened everything when it came, and the parts list matched everything I received, but the instructions jumped around in the steps and left out several items, but I already knew how everything was supposed to get installed. I mainly just made sure that I had all the parts that it was supposed to have in the kit.

Back in 2014 when I got my kit, it came with 8 bolts for the T-case plate and the rest were metric & 2 did. lengths. I didn't get upset until I found out the seal was the wrong size. Throw in the weak t-case shifter bracket....
