It's about 1.25 acres and the lady that owns it only had it mowed about 1-2 times per summer and one summer not at all. So, us two and the neighbor across the street all take turns mowing it in the summer to keep this part of the neighborhood looking good. Probably the best empty lot in the neighborhood and she will not sell it.
I've lived here over nine years and have not seen her in over five. There are only four houses on my short street and we all take care of our yards. My 2.5 acres is sprayed, fertilized, and looks like a golf course for the most part.

I do the same. I mow the gas and power easements next to my house. We lived here since 2009 and I got tired of finding snake after snake in my yard, so I started mowing it all probably around 2011/12.

HOAs were created by pissed off homeowners who came to realize they could have bought ten acres and put a modest house in the middle for what they paid for their big house with no land where everyone can look at what the other is doing

Sorry. Don't mean to offend anyone. I know it's not all and maybe not the way I tell. But that's my take on it

I bet the people complaining about code enforcement would be the same people complaining if it stopped. And the town was allowed to look like someplace you'd see in India.

i get code enforcement here probably once every two to three years
first time the guy came off like a jackwagon and i got nasty.he accused me of running a business here, unapproved alterations, and storing peoples cars here ( there are at least 13 cars on my 3 acres) the unauthorized alterations were converting my outbuilding back into a garage from a second social place ( former owner tried making a church in there) the guy wanted to search my sheds and garage and i said no.. he also said i had a commercial vehicle on my yard which was a flatbed tow truck ( registered passenger and labeled not for hire)
I went to court with a real bad attitude showed the judge titles or registrations for each car in my name, a photo of the tow truck which i told her was used to transport my multiple show cars and projects to facilities and shows, and submitted the original plans permits and approvals for the original garage. made the code enforcement look like a jerk. also proceeded to tell the court that the next time this happened, id be suing the town for abuse of process and harassment I ended up having a conversation with the head of the code enforcement and suddenly that guy is no longer working for the town
next time a guy came out it was for cars.. he said nothing fishy and left last time was a month or so ago.. Someone complained as I fly a flag complaining about a current political person i have no use for. The guy came over looked at it and told me that its freedom of speech and not threatening to anyone and it was fine.. my problem here is id like to have that ten acres with noone around but my wife wont move to an area which allows that.. too far from kids.. Without my anger getting into it this country was founded on freedom.. and every day a new law or rule takes more and more away.. i couldnt care less what you do on your own property and i expect people to leave me alone on mine

My parents to have a HOA in their neighborhood. They bought a new house under construction and immediately got cited for the wrong mailbox. The neighborhood required a specific wrote iron frame and the company went out of business. They installed a similar post and it wasn't good enough. So to be a pain the HOA doesn't allow out buildings. So my parents built a 2 car detached garage that is connected to the back porch with a breeze way. The HOA got the idea after that and left them alone.

I'm in an HOA, and I checked it out thoroughly before we bought this place. When the association was new, people could have and had been cited for crappy front yard/unmowed lawn/etc., but when we bought this place, it had the worst front yard on the block, with weeds and not much else. I was OK with that. I put in a postage-stamp sized lawn! Now all the association does is steal some of the money. #Notveryfunny. To me, they should sell the lot and buildings for a profit and give a share to the members. Wife ain't on board with it, because there are pools and tennis courts and 1/2 basketball court, swings, a party hall, etc. I've never set foot on any of it, though I did consider using the pool, which ain't even heated half the year.

I was in way not happy that my wife choosing a HOA for us to move into after living on acreage out in the country back in Oregon for over 40 years . ""BUT"" after being here just a couple years I found that I like it a lot.. I live in a Cul-de-sac and no one has a lot of curb for company to park.. So, the rules is ,, no company rigs parked on the street ,, no cars that do not run on the streets .. take care of your lawn out front of your house and also get rid of weeds .. If you want to paint your house get permission with the colors first ..

I like all these rules and was ask to read them before buying a house in with these rules and signed a paper saying I accept them..

I like all the things I just mentioned and like the wife wanted this house in this HOA .. Just right for me .. Now , At My old place back in Oregon I changed the oil in my drive way to my shop .. some times spilling some on the ground .. I did not mow my lawn every week and had weeks that got away from me at times . I was in the country and with no HOA and I liked it that way

Now I like being in this HOA as the president who also lives in one of the houses him self ... all of our HOA neighbors which is around 100 all pay the same $11 a month and have been for the last 9 years .

I could of said no before buying ..and I almost did say no .. sure glad I didn't being retired and getting older and have the time to keep the yard up and feel good it looks nice .

This story sounds about right for Palm Beach county. Thankfully I live in an unincorporated area of the same county. No HOA's where I am, but we do get the county code enforcement out our way.

You're going to fill up that new garage quick Jesse.

The bad news is that you're going to have to build another one.

I used to mow my neighbors yard for her. What the heck I already had the mower out. She didn't even have a lawnmower.

I was just trying to keep the neighborhood up. It had nothing to do with the fact that she was smoking hot and walked around in shorty shorts and had friends that were just as hot as her and they were always over there. :D

I was just trying to be a good neighbor... At least that's what I told my wife.

It was full before I started

I park the new stuff in there too. I'm 100% buying a wildfire 4 post lift. I have enough clearance on the other side to add a second if I need to store another car. The super high 13' ceiling had a purpose....

You're still going to need a second garage. There is no cure for being a car guy.

Cars are like rabbits...They multiply fast.

Twenty years ago when I had to be on-site for a job in Tempe, one Sunday morning I drove my rental car out to my old neighborhood on the west side of Phoenix.

What a shock!

It had become I guess what you could call an "ethnic neighborhood" and there were no trees and grass left and every yard (except one or two) had cars parked on the street and every square inch of yard and driveway and even front patios. Our former house was one of the worst ones. They had knocked down a little masonry wall and parked a car in what had been a cactus flower bed by our front door.

So I guess it can become really bad but still I'd rather live with no rules, around people who have some measure of respect for themselves and their neighbors.

Sounds like welfare. I see it here with the Indian reservations. What they do or at least did is provide the American Indians here a home, but it's not really theirs so the yards are just as you describe. Bummer, but that's how welfare works, pride of ownership lost, no interest in investment etc. .

Only good thing about HOA is a swimming pool:lol: I guess some have gyms and that, not really interested. HollowOrderAssociation;)

Heck yeah use the pool. I've never let piss, snot and chlorine get in the way of a good swim. Honestly I'm way overdue:lol:it's been too long. Cool you have tennis courts and that. Back in the day I lived in apartments with pool or tennis, never both. Rent was 230ish.

I don't even get in my hot tub after the grandkids have visited. I know somebody peed.

Can't blame them though. At my age it might have been me.

Well, there is that scene from Caddyshack.

I DO know people who let their babies swim in the pool and the diaper leaks.

We all know it's a fact about the kiddie pool. Those things have a higher water level at the end of the day!
