The first thing I did when I took delivery of my`92 K3500 SRW was get out the heat gun and pull the 4X4 stickers off.I could never figure out what "16" had to do with my truck. Maybe I should have custom stickers made that said 2X8 or 50% of 32. |

Gilbert, the big rodeo in Gerome is coming up,right? It must be crazy by now.It was way back when I was there.Whiskey Row was a mob scene.
Post #96:nice 1t conversion and the deep blue Stepside is beautiful. You taking good care of the red truck? |

Rust, It looks like you have done a lot of work. Did a tree fall on that hood? I take it that the GMC cab was in bad shape. That is to bad because it was a big back window cab. I also prefer big window over the small window cabs. It does seem like it takes forever to finish projects. My 1965 in the first post of this thread has been on and off for the last 4 years. Its hard to find time with work and having other running 64-66 trucks. I hope to see yours completed as planned. Keep posted.:chevy: |

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
No not yet. I'm going to try to bring it to another alignment shop next week. Hopefully they can tell me something. The last shop I brought it to wanted to heat the axle tube to correct the camber. I got out of there fast!!

62 short step, wow I can't believe they wanted to heat the axle tube. Are you still running the original closed knuckle front axle? I'm not sure if you can still get parts for them to correct your problem. All of mine go down the road straight with a little bit of wander due to the 33'' tires but I'm sure mine also have some wear. I also have two spares but someday may move up to a newer 44. If you can't fix the problem you may have to do the same.

BobS, that is a cool looking truck. I assume that is a GMC? I think I have one of yours in post #85, I'm glad to see you post here. If you have any more pics of 60-66 4X4's Chevy or GMC keep them coming.

There is one for sale here in town.

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
Gilbert,
Yep, that's my 65 Panel in #85. The 6X6 is a GMC with a 351C V-6, I'd like to swap it for a Toro-Flow some day but that truck is pretty low on the list of priorities right now. Bob |

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
Wow, thats a monster!!
Gilbert, I have an 87 chevy blazer corp 10 bolt on the front now. The shop said my caster is out, but he needs to fix it individually other than putting shims under the springs and axle. He said my ball joints looked great, he said why spend the money to put in the adj. ball joints? The only other way that I know how is to grind the weld off the knuckle and turn the knuckle to where it needs to be. Anyways might have to live with it, if I can. |

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
Daffy,
Good looking truck! Is it original or converted? If original does it still have the Rockwell transfer case? A lot of the these have been converted to newer model transfer cases due to noise and expense of rebuilding and lack of available parts. What engine does it have? Any other plans for it or just drive and enjoy. Also you said that it was a '66, I noticed that it has emblems for a '65. Thanks for showing us your ride. |

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
66 Gilbert,
It's tiltled as a '66, but is comprised of 3 different trucks (so it's not all original). It does have the original style transfer case as well as the motor (283), 4 speed tranny and 4 wheel drums. I'm seriously considering changing out the axles for newer vintage to help the braking. I'd switch out the single master cylinder for a dual power unit. Not sure how far to take this project. I have a '64 2wd and originally bought this truck for parts. I'm leaning towards leaving this truck alone, except for already mentioned safety upgrades and go after the '64 with other replacement parts. I'd hate to destroy one truck to save another. I have access to an LS-1 and 6 speed tranny that would work well in the 2wd. Anybody have any thoughts? |

Daffy,
A lot or these old trucks are put together with several other trucks, but it sounds like yours is pretty much original. All three of my 4X4's still have the original axles but I have also tossed around the idea of newer model axles for my '65 for the same reason's you have mentioned as I plan on pulling a toy hauler camp trailer around with it. I also own a 2wd, its a '66 LB with a 327 and 3 on the tree. It's all original other than wheels and it is my daily driver. Here are some more. I had to post this 10 wheel drive suburban from another forum because it is one of a kind. I also wanted to post a larger pic of Tony's awesome '66 4X4. Enjoy!!! |
