I didn't make it over their today. I was working on my bed again. I had to weld the lower sides to frame mount. After that I had to o the body work. Maybe I will go over their Saturday.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Painted my bed yesterday. I can't believe that I did it! I still have both fenders to do. Once I got a good coat of primer I could see all the imperfections the fenders have. The bed came out good. I have 3 runs on the whole job, due to the poor lights in my garage. The satin color also hides some of the imperfections in the bed. Today I cut all the wood for the bed. I went with pine because I couldn't beat the price. It cost me $70 for all the wood. I hope to have it stained and installed tomorrow.

What blue did you use? The bed looks bright the trim looks baby. I took a shot of the Omaha orange and auto adjusted it and it came out almost red. I really like the blue. Side note for step sides... a one piece board can be used. Did that in high school on the 57.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

The color is speed blue from Hot Rod Flatz. All is the same color just the light changes it. If you look at my build page when the truck is outside it looks lighter and inside the garage darker. Just finished the bed today. The only thing I have left is painting inside the tailgate. I ran out of paint.

Very nice build your working on. That is the same color I bought for my truck. I like the way it looks on yours. The only difference is I'm using the Hot Rod Flatz Gun Smoke Metallic for the roof and the strip inside the side molding. How did it spray? I've read some good and some not so good reviews on this brand. Anyway the build looks great keep up the great work.

I think it's hard to spray. If you don't get the gun right it will have streaking. That is what happened to my hood and doors. You can't see it in the picture but when you get close you will see it. You also have to have good light so you can watch your flow. I need suggestions for wheels? Good luck!

The wife and I were Oooooo and Ahhhhhh-ing over your pics this morning!
She REALLY and truely likes the color and I really liked the stain you used on your bed wood.
It is obviously new wood, but the stain makes it look old and original in your photos, that is a pretty neat effect!

Sooooooo what's next for you?

That bed turned out awesome - you're an inspiration to get me moving on mine...glad I went through your entire build as well - she's a beauty - love the color and the satin finish.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Thanks. Gloss55 gave me the inspiration for the satin color. He has the same but in red. I like it also and I am thinking if my next project what color would look good. The bed took a while to finish. It still has some flaws but hard to see. I was getting tired of working on it.

I like the color. Reminds me of a slightly darker blue then the code 23 Gm Medium Blue mine was.

Nice progress! I really like what you've done, and specifically the bed. It's very striking, attractive and unique. Very nice decisions/selections and execution. Keep it up!

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Thanks! I have been working on that bed for a long time and didn't think I would ever finish the wood part. I followed the instructions from GMC paul and it came out good. I still have to do the fenders they weren't ready when I sprayed the bed. Now I'm out of paint. I will order more soon. I read all the builds and topics on the forum and take all the advice from the members. I really hope to get this thing running by summer. Again I really appreciate the positive comments it keeps me going.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Today I am going to respray the hood. I have been trying to get the spray pattern right with this paint. I keep getting dry and streaking spots in the paint. I think I figured it out yesterday when I reshot the door. The bed came out real good and I don't know what I did different. The only thing I can think is that it is flat and doesn't have any curves in it.

what happens with pre-flattened paint is the clear coat will float. So you get one strip of flat and the other is glossy, causing tiger stripes. I went through this 10 years ago when I painted my 72 with a flattened 2 stage satin black. I ended up shooting the entire truck 4 different times before I was satisfied with the end result. The key is the proper amount of overlap, and keeping that gun a perfect 90 degrees to the surface you are spraying. It's such a pain in the ass, I don't know why I'm going to put myself through this again. hahaha I just love the look of a suede paint job. I think your truck is coming together very nicely bud, thanks for sharing the build with us.

Thanks for the complement. It has been a long road just getting to this point. Today I installed my carpet, gas tank and weather strips. It cam out good except one wrinkle that I didn't have enough time to get out. Maybe tomorrow I can do it. Next is the seat. I think I will order it on the 15th.

The carpet looks great. Which supplier did you pick?

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

I used Brothers. They had a sale so that was the deciding factor. I still have to work out that one wrinkle in the hump and cut out my dimmer. It's a little lighter than i wanted but I think it's going to look good with the blue and white seat. Thanks!

McMurphy 03-30-2013 12:48 PM

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Oh yeah, the Brothers sale motivated me to put in a large order as well... Carpet, Deadner, front fenders...ect

Looking real good, and exceptionally motivating !!
Are you gluing it down?

Thanks to Sharps 40 I installed my door handles today. I also installed my new gas cap, I think it looks good polished instead of painted. It is coming together very slow since i'm so busy with work. I hope the next thing is the seat cover.

Did my first test drive sine I bought it in Jan 2012. The brakes do not work so that will be the next thing to fix after I get the seat recovered. Since I got it running I did find out I have still a bunch to fix.

Today I painted and installed my rear bumper today and I also got my front light to work. I almost have all my brake parts together. Still have brake cables and one wheel cylinder on order. I drove the truck again today and took my wife with me. I wish I was finished so we could take it out longer.

I feel like that I finally made a break thru in my build. I finished the brakes and installed my new wheels and tires! Took it out again for a drive and went to go get gas for it. I had a good time and can't wait to drive it all the time.

Great looking truck John. I just read through your whole thread. Very inspirational for me as I our trucks are very similar except yours started in much better shape than mine.

Would you mind sharing who you used to have your glass installed as I need to do this. My front windshield seal is missing about 4 inches at the bottom and the window has a ton of cracks.

You make everything look so easy can't wait to tear mine apart and start on the body work. For now just getting my ready for inspection so I can drive it for awhile.

I would be interested in your wheels. I live in Leander. Let me know.

Bret
