Thanks man. I've managed to find several good resources for putting these engines together already, and am really looking forward to the challenge. I don't see myself ever turning against V8 engines, the sound of a well tuned screaming small block or a solid built thumper of a big block alone will likely keep V8's in my other projects. This is an experiment for me, and my truck is going to be more of a daily driver, so it doesn't have to be all about speed and thunder. The I6's are fun to drive and definitely far from common at shows, so it will be just another aspect of my truck to help it stand out in a crowd.

BTW: 1000 posts! :metal:

Man I totally hear you on that!
I am going to drop a sbc into my truck. And you are totally correct on the engine making the rig stand out from the herd!

I do have a nice late 60's 4 bolt main 350 (with the "fuelie" heads) sitting in my storage shed just in case my inline 6 doesn't work out. Even then, that engine would only be in there long enough for me to find a good Caddy 500/Th400 combo to use. I like different stuff, but I'm just weird.

speaking of caddy 500 motor i missed out on getting one 3 year ago for $500 ran and had fresh paint, new gaskets and sitting on a engine stand! my wifes friend her old man left it along with other stuff in the garage, she wanting $500 for all his stuff, lol! i didnt know anything about them and thought they wouldnt fit, man wish i could go back in time!

Re: !965 Chevy C-10 Take 2: Project Tanya

Here's some inspiration for your inline 6 build! This guy is running a 250 six in his Chevy Opala, and it runs 11.50's/11.60's in the 1/4 mile. He's running methanol and 15:1 compression though, so his combo isn't daily driver friendly. I'm building a 250 for my '66 and I'm planning on running 13:1 ish with 105 octane E85- its really easy to find around here and cheaper than regular gas. Will be watching to see how your build turns out!

Edit, here's a link I found with some info on his engine. 373 horsepower at the wheels! It must be a later model block with thicker cylinder walls, as most 250's aren't able to be reliably bored to 4" like he's done.

Nice vids!
While I am home next summer I am hoping to get my OHC6 230 rated for horse power, and if they are doing time trials out at Spokane Raceway Park, I would like to get a couple of clock times too.

But that may just be wishful thinking LOL

Re: !965 Chevy C-10 Take 2: Project Tanya

Sweet vids man thanks, that engine sounds sic! I can't go that crazy since I want to use mine for a driver, but I've been getting a really good idea on how I want to put it all together. That inliners.org site is pretty sweet too, I stumbled on it a while ago but have been reading a whole lot more on there since considering building my own 6.

Chad: I know exactly what you mean bud, I hate to think of all the times I have done that very thing. One of the reasons I very rarely say "no" to more parts, and it's managed to get me some really cool stuff.

Re: !965 Chevy C-10 Take 2: Project Tanya

Took Tanya down to the AAA aproved auto shop to get her tailgate looked at. I finally got the adjuster to call me back, so hopefully this can be over with in a few days and I can start looking for a good tailgate, and finally move on with the project.

One good thing came of today: The guy that own this shop is an old friend of mine who had not seen Tanya yet. When we started talking about my plans for her he got really excited saying how he loves working on these old trucks. He offered to come to my shop and guide me through some of the rust repairs, and even help coach me on painting. Ray (the shop owner) has been doing body work for a very long time, and I've seen some really quality resorations that he has personally done, so I'm really stoked on what this means for Tanya! :metal: In turn He asked if I could come over tomorrow and help him fire up his 'Cuda he's been working on.....first time fire on a 440 'Cuda......I'd be crazy not to. Today was a good day. :D

fryer thanks awesome that you'll get some help, my dad helps me but i'm teaching him on working on my truck! he knows brakes and suspenion stuff so that was a help for me, and a 440 cuda that thing is gonna sound so sweet!

Re: !965 Chevy C-10 Take 2: Project Tanya

Fryer we used to run the 292 at the local figure 8 back in the late 50's an early 60's.. I just remember I was pretty young at the time... and having the best time of my life in the dirt pits changing tires and repairing king pins between runs...if my memory is correct I think the 292 was considered a truck engine and only available in the trucks. Every car I've worked on had the 235 or another I can't remember the cubes right now. We picked up a couple of the 292's and ran them in the figure 8's and 1/4 mile ovals.

Re: !965 Chevy C-10 Take 2: Project Tanya

Well, for anyone still paying attention here Tanya has been put on hold for a while. My wife and I are getting a divorce, and while I think I am safe in keeping both Tanya and my Camaro (had it long before the marriage anyway), I am going have to give up my daily driver just to keep the peace. So for now Tanya will have to continue to be a driver. I've got some upgrades I need to do to her to make this more feasible, so I'll try and get some pics posted as I do those. Unfortunately any major construction is going to have to continue waiting until the dust all settles.

Wow,
Total bummer about the divorce. Crappy time of year to be getting it too.

Hope the dust settles equally for you both, and you are able to get on with your life.
Dont forget you have friends on these boards that will think of you, and wonder how you are doing.
After a while it isnt just about the trucks, yanno?

Best of luck to you sir.

Re: !965 Chevy C-10 Take 2: Project Tanya

I couldn't have said it better.

I've been thru the big 'D' myself.....been 23 years ago now. It can be rough at times, but it will work out for the best, which ever way that may be.

Well, in this situation it is a congrats. While we shared a few things in common, there is just too many things we were polar opposites about....important things. Thanks for the sympathy guys. Even though the break up is a generally positive thing, there are still good days and bad days. Always good to know there are friends around. Thank you!

Re: !965 Chevy C-10 Take 2: Project Tanya

I still cruise the threads almost nightly, this is by far my favorite forum. Just with so many things going on it's hard to come up with useful input at times. Work is pretty much halted on Tanya for now, except for routine maintenance of course. Once things get rolling a little better, I'll get back to work. I still have that pile of parts for her, and I cruise the local pick 'n pull for a I-6 HEI distributor almost weekly. I'll keep posting as things go, and try to take more pictures to keep this thread alive. It'll pick back up for me, it may just take a little time. Don't worry, my classics are a huge part of me, and there is no way I could leave them be for long. Tanya and Evil Ways (my Z28) are here to stay, besides my car club is full of people who will never let me shut myself in, even if I wanted too.

Re: !965 Chevy C-10 Take 2: Project Tanya

Hey guys, I'm still here and still kicking. Tanya has decided she wanted to start throwing u-joints so she is parked for now until I can get those replaced. Fortunately she didn't drop a driveline, but she has one hell of a shudder heading down the highway. It's been really cold and snowy up here lately, but we are supposed to get a break in the storms this weekend. So I'm hoping to get her fixed up and back on the road in a few short days. Meanwhile her oil leak has gotten a bit worse, and she is starting to run a bit rough. Still trying to locate a HEI distributor for her, and as soon as the weather stays warm enough I'll pull the engine and get her all sealed and tuned up. That's about it for now, sorry there aren't any pictures. All the cameras were left at the house, and my phone has been jacked up since I split. New phone's coming, so hopefully next time I'll have a few shots to share. Until then......

Thanks Captain. Yeah they are actually going fairly well all things considered, just don't have a whole lot of spare time and almost no money for the projects at the moment. It's ok though, I know things will get even better....I just have to hold out a little bit more. :)

Thanks bud, yes I am still around....it would be pretty impressive if I could get lost in this part of the country. As much as I'm sure she would like me to be, I've just lived here too damned long.

Hey y'all. I'm still here and still alive..... Not a whole lot of progress just yet, poor Tanya is still sitting with busted u-joints. Going through the divorce process has taken a lot out of me monitarily, mentally, and physically. Plus I am living right now in a place where i don't have internet access, so time to get on here is scarce. I do have a good friend who has been faithfully working on his '64 Chevy, and in turn helping get me motivated to get back on Tanya. I did get the ex's Caddy pushed out of my shop, and Tanya is finally inside. Once my new cell phone arrives (yeah, been without a camera too), I'll try to get some fresh photos and post them up here. I am getting my health back, and really looking forward to getting back into the shop to help me focus on something besides the turmoil my life has been in lately.....I do get out there once a week to start her up and run her around the storage complex just to keep her from getting too lonely. Now I just need to get focused and get to work. Hope y'all are still hanging around. :)

Yeah I know, at this point all I can really blame is lazness. My girl is even into working on cars and trucks and is starting to push me into getting to the shop. I'm finally able to make it through a day without breaking into a huge coughing fit, so maybe it is about time to get my butt back into the shop. I have so much work to do between Evil Ways and Tanya, there is no excuse for me wasting any more time......

Ok, got some parts coming in for Tanya, and as soon as I can get a couple small things cleared from my shop (the other '65 removed, a new project rolled in, and the exhaust on my F-250) I'll be back to work on her. I got one of those distributors ordered up from Skip White (link above), man $80 is hard to beat for a brand new HEI distributor. Going to pull the 292 out and get her freshened up with some new seals and gaskets, a fresh tune up with the new dizzy, and maybe even some new paint. While the engine is out I am contemplating a 700r4 swap to make her a little more highway friendly. And I'll see what kind of shape the exhaust manifold is in, she may just get some headers and new exhaust too! I'm so stoked, so many things going on and soon I'll be back working on Tanya again. Not to mention I finally have a good phone with a working camera so I can take some pictures to share once again.....:metal:

Here is the website picture of the distributor I got coming: (yes I know the picture shows a V8 cap...lol)

Re: !965 Chevy C-10 Take 2: Project Tanya

Thanks bud! I finally got to get my hands dirty on her today (and she is a VERY dirty girl!!!).....yes, the truck! I got her up on some ramps and got the driveline pulled out, and got the old U-joints and carrier barring off and replaced. I also got all of the random stuff that piled in the cab and bed over the last few months all cleaned out. I am trying to get her all ready for the Bettys, Bombs, and Bikes car show over in Carson City this weekend, so hopefully tomorrow I will get her back on the road, and get some time to polish her up a little bit before the weekend. The one thing I forgot to do was take any pictures, so I will try and remember to take some new ones tomorrow for anyone still interested.
