Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
I love it! Back in the '70s when all the rage was cars was jacked up cars, that were drag race inspired,I always wondered why yo never saw stock car inspired cars. I thought it would be so effin cool...and made a lot more sense than something you had to fight in the turns.

been at it...need to use the stock rad cradle as it holds the headlight buckets etc....will use a thicker piece of material but you get the idea

engine.....pretty stock 400 sbc that I have lying around, 80s vette alum heads....was going to put it in a truck I had but I sold it.....Super Chevy had an Impersonator build where they changed the cam on one of these, put a set of Vortec heads and 9:1 made 420 hp and 525ft/lbs.....be a great low buck torquer to get the car rollin'....later build the bullet

Awesome project!!! I've always loved the 60's/70's Nascar styling and thought something like this would be cool, and here you've gone and done it!! Can't wait to see more!

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
It looks very Mad Max like that but I have to say it'd look better with a nice shiny paint job and period sponsorship stickers so it looks like a proper racer.

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
SOOOOOO BADA$$ looking. This is a killer build. I don't know if you post on there, but another great board to show this off would be Team Chevelle.
Trust me when I say this will have ink in magazines when done. It is that cool. |
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
very nice! I love the tough look. Going to be a really competitive car with all the modern technology!

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
I gotta say I usually hate to see old muscle cars built into racecars but I like this one very much.

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
Well there is some stuff I could show.....the car has sort of evolved into a direction....after all kinds of thoughts about how to do the interior Ive settled on kind of "modified period correct" that is.....about as period correct as modern safety will allow. With somewhere in the neighborhood of 550hp, big brakes and 10 inch slicks it will certainly be fast enough to get me in a whole lot of trouble on a roadrace track. It will have full five point harness and the plan is to have a two or three layer suit and a Hans device for the track.....and some form of fire suppression.
Going for the big Smokey Yunick tach in the dash like the pic...use the stock dash pad and I recycled the door pads that a guy gave me. aluminum dash with old school black face autometer gauges. http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/a...VI068Large.jpg http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/a...VI071Large.jpg http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/a...058-23-640.jpg http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/a...VI065Large.jpg |
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
Yeah and used the recessed gas cap mount off the race car but instead of a dry break it has a standard non vented twist on gas cap.
Have the rear package tray/rear firewall in.....the package tray is done to stock specs....one of my best buddies owns a sign shop...I was going to get him to make me up decals of two Jensen 6x9 Triaxials and stick them back there for a joke haha...what do you guys think?....does anyone even remember what they are? http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/a...VI060Large.jpg http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/a...VI063Large.jpg |
Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
I just got through this thread for the first time tonight, very, very sick build you have going on here. I love the idea of using old muscle cars for period type race cars of all kinds. There are tons of guys building street machines, and period correct show queens. I say make something kool that you just won't see another one of at a car show. I am definitely in for this one.
:metal: |

Jensen's? Hell yeah! I rocked 6x9's in the deck and a pair of co-ax in the doors. I blasted them til my ears bled.

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
Decal idea would be awesome. Gotta get a matching 2 post on the dash decal.

Re: My '69 Chevelle/Winston cup car
That would be funny and then have a head unit decal made up and place it on the aluminum panel under the dash pad.
