I have some folks telling me it would be a shame to do an engine and/or transmission swap, and on the other hand my WIFE is telling me I owe it to him to build him a sweet hot-rod truck. I like to adhere to the "Happy Wife, Happy Life" way of living, but I am honestly conflicted.

What does your son like?

I have one more detail to work out and then I'll map out the plan for all to see.

Re: Project: Shiro

I say do what you want to the truck, it's your truck. I wouldn't listen to people telling you not to rip out a low mile original 6cyl for a hotter setup. In the end it is just a truck not a ultra rare unmolested original everything musclecar worth well over 6 figures. I say rip that motor out, build a hotrod with your son and enjoy it.

Agreed. Start with a clean truck--end up with a schweet truck! 'Course, it's an easy decision when it's not mine  I'm torn on whether or not to tear into mine, too...

I like that one, too. Too bad they didn't cast those ridges in the coil covers when they made them. Great plan!

I like that set up too. I plan to do something similar to my 6.0 for my dually.

This looks like a solid plan! Looking forward to watching you shell out the dough for a killer build! this thing is going to be so nice.....
What I would do for my kid's truck if I had the $$, I'll just just do it vicariously :)

Well... it appears a Blazer is going to be WAY back on the back burner. But that's cool, he works hard at everything he does (school/band) and he is very excited about this project so I don't mind waiting. ;) Plus I get to drive it until he turns 16.:metal:

Definitely going to have some memories that last a lifetime! My favorite memories of my father and I when I was a teenager were us working together side by side on the 57 Chevy truck he have me when I turned 16. How fortunate for you and your son to be able to build this project together! I can't wait until my daughters and son are old enough!

Nate

A really cool thing is because my house has a steep driveway we will be doing a lot of the deconstruction at my folks house which means my Pop will be there to lend a hand too. 3 generations getting their hands dirty! :metal: And more importantly, 3 generations taking turns driving out rivets!

Thanks, it's a good thing there are so many high quality builds on this board because we are going to be slow going so you'll have plenty of cool stuff to check out while we chug along.

Based on the measurements I took off the truck as is, using Nate's point of reference, it should be very close to a 5/7. The big advantages will be ground clearance, ability to tune the ride, and rack-n-pinion steering. And you know the built-in geometry will make it handle!!

He's a good kid, he works hard at school, percussion, and taekwondo so I am excited to give him a cool ride.
