What tires are you running in the back?
I'm looking for an alternative to M/T because of the limited mileage and the fact that they get dry and hard quickly in the Arizona heat. Have 18 wide on there now.. Any suggestions? :5150: |

Those are the old Hoosier Pro Street radials. They were really nice tires (relatively quiet and held up well). They are the 31x16.5 on 16x12 vintage Ansen Sprints. I'm going to go with the modern aluminum rally wheels and retire my old Funny Car wheels. I'm going to try the MT Sportsman SR radials to see how they work.

I have 3 aluminum slot wheels that look like the old US Indys that are 15x14... unknown brand and some wheels that look just like them that are 15x7.
I also have pro stars that are 15x15 and 15x6... The 18.5s are on yet another unknown brand.. guessing cragar 15x14 and 15x8... the S/R M/Ts were an option but I've heard equal good and bad.. Well... the diff is set up for the 15x15 Pro Stars.. guess I'll try the mickey street radials.. the slotted mags are the same back set... hummm... decisions decisions |

I hear ya…my buddy is doing the finish body work and paint since I'm working on these two projects at the same time. No matter how hard I tried to schedule them not to overlap, they still did:

The guy who taught me fabrication chassis and suspension always told me...
"Keep only 1 iron in the fire kid because you only have 2 arms, 1 to hold the iron and 1 to hold you up" Didn't make too much sense to me as 17 year old kid but 40 years later today... makes perfect sense. . LOVE the Tempest. . Always wanted one of the early cars.. Oh... and your progress has inspired me enough to pull my Prostreet chassis back out and focus some time on it... :metal: :5150: |

My truck was originally supposed to go to my buddy's paint shop a few years ago, but he ran into some health problems and took a couple years off to recover. When he got healthy and came back, he was so backlogged that he said I either bring the C10 down now, or wait another 2-3 years. That's when all of my careful planning and scheduling went into the circle file. :dohh: |

Definitely! I used to attend and race at the Pontiac Heaven events at Speedworld and now held at Wild Horse Pass (formerly Firebird) every spring.

Here is some coverage from the last Pontiac Heaven I attended. The reporter incorrectly noted the quickest pass - should've been possibly the quickest for a stock block Pontiac.

Damn that looks good!!! I'm not usually a fan of dark green (I like mint green) but that looks great.
Can you tell me a bit about the front bars you added from the frame to the body? I saw your post on it originally on another thread about stiffening up a frame. I have been reading "Chassis Engineering" by Herb Adams and saw something similar in his book. I wouldnt mind adding them to my truck but I dont want to do it incorrectly and just add unnecessary weight and junk. |

I guess it's been awhile, but I had a couple of questions about my front fender modification since my rear wheel opening modification has been posted in other threads a few times. Here is what I did to remove the area over the front tire to help balance the wheel opening proportions between the front and rear.
After lowering the front suspension as much as I felt was practical, I measured the space between the lower lip of the fender and the top of the tire. I felt that if I lowered the wheel opening lip by 2.5 inches, it would create a nice balance while being very subtle. So, I sectioned a couple of reproduction fenders (I had to massage them quite a bit anyway to get them to fit and line up). Yes, I lowered the top of the wheel opening to make it more proportional to the rear wheel opening of the bedside. With the truck lowered, the rear wheel opening covers all of the top portion of the rear tire and part of the wheel. This makes the height of the front fender opening and the space over the front tire even more obvious. Sectioning the front fender helps take up that dead space above the front tire.
