Re: 5.3 into 72
Just finished my road trip out to pigeon forge this evening for the shades of the past Rod run. It's been my goal to have the truck ready for this since May. I got out here with no issues and knocked down 19 mpg!!! I believe I would've got 20 if I didn't have to go through the mountains. I am happy with 19 though. So far there is a big turnout here. I'm really looking forward to the show.

Have a great time...Jim

Re: 5.3 into 72
Congrats on the LS install. Looks great. What radiator and gas pedal assembly did you use?
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
For the radiator I used an R&D aluminum radiator and I used a corvette pedal.
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
Enjoy the show. I see a lot of FB friends are heading there.

Re: 5.3 into 72
The time has come to add vintage air to the truck. Has anyone used an Alan grove A/C bracket?
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
Take a look at Bill's Hot Rod brackets
The fit and work, I have used them many times |

Some assembly required with Dirty Dingo brackets!
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
if someone needs one of the Dirty Dingo idler relocater and a modified factory ps/alt bracket that is needed for the Dirty Dingo setup, hit me up. got one with less than 500 miles on it. took it out and put it on the shelf when i went with the LSA top-end and bracketry.

Re: 5.3 into 72
I used KWIK ac bracket on my 56 and it fit really well. Also Holley has nice top mount brackets that look factory. Just a couple more options for your consideration.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Which headers did you go with? Are the long tubes or mid length?

Re: 5.3 into 72
I don't remember the part number
The folks at D D said this is the one I needed for a 78 ,so I took his word for it! The compressor is a Sanden I picked up locally from Century Auto Air Conditioning here in Tucson It works really good as I have to use blend air or it will get down below 30* I am using the stock 78 Evap and everything is on R134 |

Re: 5.3 into 72
Well I starTed my vintage air install just in time for winter! Figured I'd post some pictures. It's been a while since I updated this thread. With the AC compressor I had to move the intake to the drivers side. I like it better, I think it cleans up the engine compartment.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Well did not like the upper A/C bracket. So off it came. I am going to try the Alan grove lower A/C bracket. I think it keeps the engine bay cleaner.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Are you using a "cold air box" on the air cleaner?

Re: 5.3 into 72
So, I ordered the Alan grove lower AC bracket in hopes that I could make it work. I came up short on finding any post with pictures or information from people who have had this bracket work. So I figured out a plan to make it work and I ordered some fitting from a company name cold house. Great customer service there, they got me everything I needed. I ordered a #8 90 degree fitting, a #8 straight fitting with a charge port and I ordered a 45 degree #10 fitting with a charge port. I have one more fitting to be crimped as when I thought I had my final product I came up with another idea to clean it up some. The first pic is before that idea, the second is the final mock
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...925EAC87D9.jpg No trimming of the frame was necessary. This is in conjunction with ECE motor mounts. In my opinion it has a much cleaner look to it. Anyway, it works for me. I can finally beat the heat this summer. http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...BAA113D5CC.jpg |

Re: 5.3 into 72
Did you have to mod the frame rail for the lower mount compressor?
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
No modifications to the frame at all.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Seems like it's been too long since my last post here. Recently I've put new window felts in the vent window channels and it stopped the annoying window rattle these trucks can develop. That's all the work I've done! Here in about two weeks I'll be putting on new wheels and tires. 20x10 riddler 695s with 295 40 20s on the rear and 20x8.5s in the front with 255 40 20s on the front. Next up I'll be tinting my windows. I bought some pre cut tint. I'm going with 35% on the sides and 5% on the rear. I am keeping things legal for the state of NC. Then I'll add in my pressure transducer switch and binary switch and get my vintage air charged. Hopefully by the end of summer I'll be adding a Detroit truetrac to my rear end. This should all make for a great summer.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Well, the windows are tinted now. Already, there is a temp difference in the cab, and that's without the AC. Next week she gets new shoes and I should be finishing off my VA system.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Got the new wheels and tires on finally. I realize it's the typical setup, but I love it.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Looking great there Jesse. I'm helping a friend with a '68 frame off and LS swap. I've been following your thread so it will help me see where all the pieces go a little further down the line. Is yours a single rail fuel line with no return? Thanks Ed...:chevy:

Re: 5.3 into 72
Congrats!!! Kool looking truck.
How was the clearance with the Gibson headers and your shifter linkage? Are you running original shifter linkage or after market? Thanks |
Re: 5.3 into 72
I'm running Lokar shift linkage and there are no clearance issues with the headers.
