Re: Cgt project
Getting close to start laying paint and thinking ahead. I will be buying a complete side trim kit, but I don't want push in style clips. I would rather have threaded studs as I can then adjust and I find they are way easier to take off.
Anyone one know who makes them as all the kits I see have some threaded and some push in. |

Attachment 2028147 These are pictures of a 61 Blazer built by Sicchops. Notice in the jams how I assume they filled the metal folded over from quarter in jam and also on door. It really cleans things up. I have been thinking of doing this on my truck. Would there be any downside? |
Re: Cgt project
On a full custom ride I don't think it would be a concern.

Re: Cgt project
I imagine for a daily, as long as moisture can drain out the bottom, it should be fine.
|
Re: Cgt project
I've talked to a couple buddies that are body men and they say the proper way would be weld up the seam then fill. They also said it would likely be fine just filling since I have sealed the inside of the doors with paint.
Its funny how different locations do stuff. I have purchased several vehicles from down south and have come across repairs where they drilled holes to pull out a dent and then smeared bondo into the holes, and called it done. Up here we get a lot of rain and if someone repairs it that way, the paint bubbles quick. |
Re: Cgt project
Well, I'm doing it. I am using a fiberglass body filler as it is stronger.

No more seam. I like it better. |
Re: Cgt project
Looks good. I did the same thing years ago with my '65 that was my daily. It lasted for a long time. Longer than the truck did before someone vandalized it. I let the truck sit for about 5-6 years before reworking it and the jambs still looked really good.

This has been my Covid isolation for the past 4 months. Nice to have some colour on it. I plan to let all the parts bake in the sun until September then reshoot it.

Re: Cgt project
I am in the middle of final paint and just sprayed my side trim stripes a contrast colour. I just masked in the center of the trim holes. In reflection was this a mistake? Was thinking will the stripes lineup at the cab corner to door? Does it really matter as the trim cover most of the paint lines? I had checked my trim alignment on mockup to make sure they were straight. How does everyone else do it?

Man what an awesome build! Always thought a GT built C10 would be super cool. Can't wait to see what you do with the interior.

Re: Cgt project
That is one beautiful truck. I'm a huge blue lover and my last 3 vehicles were blue. I decided to get away from blue on my build and you have not helped my decision. LOL I guess I'll stick with my decision and change but as I'm following your build...ow, it hurts so good.

Getting colder and wetter here. Other toys put away for the winter. Getting time to do the fun stuff....putting the truck together. Got the engine harness in and started insulating.

Started to assemble the doors. I pulled out my roll up windows and had forgotten they have a painted frame around them. Would like them chrome. I already have sent some stuff to the platers. Anyone know of source that sells door glass complete with the chrome trim ?
