And a few more. Parts primed and relaxing in the warm sunshine!
As with any project there are a lot of "since we're doing this, we might as well do that, and while you have that apart, can you go ahead and fix this?" We are at a cross road so to speak. This was just going to be a frame on, paint and clean up, kind of project. Now Joel is contemplating going the "frame off" route. As the old saying goes "speed costs, how fast can you afford to go?" Well, the same can be said for a restoration. Nobody wants to spend more than they need to. I always tell the customer, you'll never do a frame off, and then when it's done say "I wish I would have just half assed it, to save some money". What ALWAYS happens is this. After you checkbook recovers, you always end up saying, " I wish I would have done this". I also tell them that it is real easy for ME to spend YOUR money! So in the end you have to decide what it is that you ultimately want the finished product to be. What will Joel decide to do? He says he needs a little time to sleep on it, and come up with a plan to sweet talk the wife. Stay tuned to see where this project goes from here. |
Re: New life for an old 2wd, farm Blazer
Daaaamn... just damn. That's a lotta work. Props to you, sir. Good luck the rest of the way, but I don't think you'll need it.

Re: New life for an old 2wd, farm Blazer
That's an impressive amount of work that you've done! I wish I had the skills and balls that you have to tackle that much rust. I also totally agree with your comment, "As the old saying goes "speed costs, how fast can you afford to go?" Well, the same can be said for a restoration." I'm in that scenario right now. My Blazer is at a restoration shop and I am trying to get it ALL done right so I don't regret anything later.

A few more. I'm kinda anal about making all of my repairs invisible. Even when they will be covered with carpet.

:agree: That looks great, awesome work so far.

Re: New life for an old 2wd, farm Blazer
The owner will be glad he went with taking the body off the frame. At this point it's not that much more work and the results will be noticable. Just about ready for some color there.

Re: New life for an old 2wd, farm Blazer
Ok, so at 10:57 this morning, you posted work on the windshield frame. At 11:08, the body came off. By 1:46 a ton of work had been done and primer was sprayed. For my sanity, please tell me that you didn't do all this between 10:57 and 1:46.........that would really kill my motivation today.

Ok, good. I'm not nuts. If you had done all that today, I was gonna load mine up and head to SD. I figured by Tuesday, you'd have this one done and could have mine done by next week!

This pic scared me at first. I thought to myself, "Oh man! That's too bad. All that work for it to fall off the lift?" then I went back up and read and took a second look and realized it was on the rotisserie.

A little undercoat in some hard to reach areas, before the "B" pillar supports are installed for good.

The reason the rear part of the bed floors rust, is because the tires throw water and dirt, which pack in the gaps from the floor ribs. I seam sealed these areas to eliminate any future problems.

Re: New life for an old 2wd, farm Blazer
You do some absolutely amazing work!

Re: New life for an old 2wd, farm Blazer
I need to get back under my truck bed and seal that up. Thanks for the tip.

Wheel tubs installed. I plan to seam seal them, and paint over the bolt heads for that "factory look".

Time to get the chassis tore down, sandblasted, painted and parts ordered, so I have somewhere to put the body, once the firewall and inside are painted.

Got the frame and parts sandblasted. Found a few things that need some attention. One of the body mount frame pieces is broke off. Also found a crack near a steering box bolt.
