The bed mounts sound like a pretty cool idea.

coulter 04-12-2011 09:32 AM

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

thanx man i think it turned out pretty cool!! i got them tacked into place today.. gonna pull the bed off and finish welding it.. gonna add a few more smaller pieces of tubing for more braces.. dont wanna make it too heavy!!!

http://img859.imageshack.us/img859/7378/63274966.jpg

this will be the height of the floor
http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/7103/71149649.jpg

here is how the adjustment works... gotta get some longer bolts
just adjust it up or down by moving the 2 jam nuts

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

Jusy wondering how strong that will be? Side to side. Seems like a lot of force on a nut and washer. Compared to the orginial. Where's it's bolted direct to the cross member. who knows. Just seems like all that force is now on the sides of the nut. Bet that Lakesideroadster guy would put it on his cad system and show ya a bunch of nice colors and stuff. :sumo:Wish I was there I would give it a good wiggle test.:lol::smoke: Do like your work though.

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

well it is still gonna use the factory rear mount that is under the tailgate to.. it feels super solid even with it just being tacked in place ( i wiggled the sh#@ out of it)

besides i dont plan on haveing more than 500lbs or so in bed so im pretty sure it will be ok.. also im planning on doin about 3/4inch or so body drop so those bolts wont need to be adjusted out that far after i do that

daverod 04-12-2011 06:53 PM

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

If it passed the wiggle test it should be fine.;)Where do you get the drill lookin things?

How deep will the bed be?
I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Just need a few pointers on how!

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

the boards will sit on top of the square tubing so it will be a little more than a foot deep

Sick5 04-24-2011 01:09 PM

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

how many inches is it from the crease of the bed to the tubing. and are the tubing leveld with the top of the cnotch?

coulter 04-25-2011 08:24 AM

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

i set my tubes 2 1/4 below the crease and it will be just a lil higher than the notch

the easiest way to figure how u need to do yours is to keep a few of the stock rails in your bed and set it on there to see how tall your notch is. then build your floor height from that .. cause i made my notches and they arent as tall as most ive seen so if you use my measurements it might not turn out right

thanx man!!! ur truck is a beauty!!!

i got a little bit more done
started working on my fenderwells
http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/9412/33545196.jpg
http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/1174/39820782.jpg
still gotta make the end caps then finish welding and start smoothing

put the motor in for a test fit.. everything fit great except the drivers side header is just a tad low so im gonna cut it down a lil
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/6520/87104404.jpg
http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/9974/30632816.jpg
mmmm look at this nasty silicone disaster!!!! lol
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/5518/32494850.jpg
btw the mounts are just a tubular mount kit i found on ebay.. came with the tranny crossmember to. i bolted them to the forward holes and everything looks like its gonna clear good

FRENCHBLUE72 05-01-2011 11:16 PM

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

Im thinking you may wanna keep your eye open for a set of finned or at least some nicer valve covers. With those headers and the rest of the work you have done the valve covers just look out of place. Just my.0321 cents worth.

coulter 05-02-2011 12:03 AM

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

ya i bought those just for temporary cause they were cheap... but they got dented up when the motor fell of the engine stand... i just ordered these

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/8975/36223901.jpg

it was too late last night to start cutting and grinding but i did go ahead and get my lines drawn for where im gonna cut my rear tubs

this crappy rainy weather makes it hard to get motivated to work :waah:

bad ass truck man , looks sick as all hell , got a ? for you and the masses , if you sectioned ur cross member and or a small z of the frame would it lay rocker in the from ??

coulter 05-05-2011 11:53 PM

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

ya my frame is about 2 inches off the ground with 2.5 drop spindles and sitting on lower control arms.. so it wouldnt take a huge z with drop spindles.. i think most people do a 3 inch z..

With the frame flat on the ground the pinchwelds on mine are about 1/8"-1/4" from the ground. That is with brand new urethane body mount bushings, older broken in rubber bushings may get you closer if not touching.
