Ok...Ive been cleaning up all the stuff I didnt want to do but ended up doing anyway! First, my truck would not start due to a fuel issue. I re-did the engine end(hoses, filter, pump) and there was no improvement. I finally dropped the tank to find a completely cobbled up sending unit. It was covered in silicon and solder. Replaced the sending unit after beating out the tank which looked like it had been thrown off a cliff. Pic shows it about ready to be installed.
The other issues were w/ the brakes. When I finished my bags I set the truck down and pinched the rear brake lines w/ my exhaust pipes. You can see the original clip under the pipe in one pic. I ran the new brake lines to the front of the axle and made a new mount for the 'T'. The other pic is looking directly up at the 'T' from on my back under the truck. All of this work is to get the truck to sit on the frame, w/ a very short bumpstop. I have a 1 1/2" in there right now, this will make it as low as it can be w/out notching the frame. I will still have to take care of the tailpipes as they are in the way. If they had made the exhaust 1" farther back they would clear. Isnt that how it always goes? I will SOON have it together and have pics of it sitting low. |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Very nice sub. I can't wait to get mine done.

FINALLY posting pics of my truck aired out. Came very close to the original photochop that Frizzle did and got this whole ball rolling. The bags are complete and I just need to do an alignment(). Driving around the block the tires were squealing pretty well.
For the question Ive seen asked more than any other, here is the answer. This is as low as you can go!!!!! My front tires are hitting the well wells and the rear axle is sitting against the frame w/ a short bumpstop. Thanx for everybody asking about my truck and good luck with all your projects. |

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Great looking burb protrash.............Ya gotta love those burbans.............I lowered mine using lowering springs and spindles...........................4" front and 6" in the rear.......................Also changed to 6 lug to 5 lug......................The ride improved immensely.....................I'm thinking about bagging mine to get the same stance as yours.....................................Again good looking burb.........Hemmit

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Thanx guys....its cool now that its done and I have improved a few skills along the way; I have a doctorate in head scratching!!!
Thanx Demmit; I agree about the ride. After I lowered the 'burb it rode very nicely. Now with the bags I dont notice much difference. I think alot of it has to do with the shocks and the weight of the wheel/tire combo. |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Man that thing looks sweet.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Looks awesome!
|
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
nice job bro are you going to goodguys?
|
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
the more i look, the more l like
I want your wheels!! |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Looks good Protrash.
I really like those big smooth wheels. Burbans seem to have so much more attitude with the drop in altitude. I know what you mean about as low as you can go. The only way I can get mine any lower would be cutting the floor for a notch. Can't bring myself to do that. Burbs Rule! Dave |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
The burban is lookin nice man....
Hows the 'juice' coming ? |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Thats a good looking Burb, nice work. :chevy:

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Thanx very much everyone; glad you like it and hope it inspires someone to go turn a couple wrenches. I look at the stuff on this message board and it always gets me motivated. Cool fabrication, engine builds, and just cleaning up a stocker is always nice.
Dino; I will be going to Goodguys as a spectator and not driving anything. I'll look you up if you're there. Dave; thanx buddy, havent seen you on here in awhile....ever get your interior fixed up? John(Chief); thanx dude...still slow but Im getting the parts together and trying to figure out how a clean install would go. gulfcoast66; thanx for the compliments. |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

Digging this out of the graveyard.......we all know the sickness;). I've been collecting ideas and parts (Craigslist is your friend) and waited 'til this weekend to do a makeover on the 'burb. I liked the truck but it was not exactly what I was shooting for, so I decided to make some changes.
First up, my bags leaked. There were to many fittings due to the 'manifold' I made for the valves. I scored a new tank and will hang the valve assemblies off the tank. It eliminates numerous fittings. I will also be adding gauges to the front 2 bags. Secondly I'm changing the look of the truck.......I'm not ready for white walls, but I'm going back somewhere into the late 70's and early 80's for a different look. After I pulled out some pieces of the suspension I had to bolt on my new rolling stock and check it out. It is SUPER low.....:metal::metal:. I'm sporting 295/50/15's in the rear and 265/50/15's in the front, mounted on some pick-up Rallys. The truck is so low that a jack is still stuck under the frame, but I was too tired to get it out:lol:. I'll be updating as I go this weekend....more to come. I just had to show a hint of the new look. |

I do have a small update.....Sunday I mostly fixed up some of the previous work and did a bunch of head scratching. Fitting those tires is a *****. I trimmed my fender lips some more and decided to adjust the panhard. I moved it 5/16th's toward the passenger side. I think its a little too far and I may have to split the difference and bring it back some. NOTE...measure the side to side at the same hite to compare...I think this threw me a little off, oh well. I have the adjustable panhard from CPP, by the way.
I did get the tank in its new home and partially plumbed. I like it alot. It tucks up nicely and looks clean. I may re-route the compressor leads up over the way I had them before. I needed 45* fittings to do it and I didnt have them.....check the pics, I have everything else. Dino warned me about this....in the pic of the valves and various fittings, the fittings are about $250 worth. I got the two front sets of valves mounted but no pic of that. They are the middle two rows on the bench. I need to add my 3/8's fittings to the other set as I am stepping down a size in the rear bags. Keeping the 1/2'' to the front but adding a gauge for the front two corners. Here are the pics.......I'll get some more soon.:uhmk: |
