FatMan Fabrications makes a complete mustang II front clip. This would allow you to cut the camaro clip off of your truck and weld the MII stub on. This would probably save you some time from having to redo the entire frame. http://www.fatmanfab.com/07page6.htm Rob |

Solid, I took a couple shots of the tranny crossmembers that we have. The first one is the original with a home made tranny mount. The second is the CPP (I think that who's it is) and the third is the Progressive monster. I just laid the pcs out for that and it still need to be welded together.

Re: 52 Project
Hey Brian, I like the third one !!!
I am waiting to see what Steve at Industrial Chassie builds for me!! |
Re: 52 Project
thanks for the floor write up... great info. that will really help us. i should get a 4 day weekend 2nd week of feb and thats when the floor gets cut out and the bed comes off.
|
Re: 52 Project
I am planning on doing some more stuff this weekend depending on the weather. You might want to get your new floor before cutting out the old one because it comes with the braces that you are going to need to support the cab. Other than that good luck and have fun.

I got a little work done on the truck yesterday. Seems like I only get a few hours to work on the truck these days because of several other projects going on. I got the inner cowl panel fitted for the drivers side and probably will work on the pass side this weekend. I am planning on opening up the holes and plug welding them on. These have been more work than i had planned on...probably just getting to picky;) . Here are a couple of pictures.

Re: 52 Project
Looks good! Looks like everybodys down to a few hours a week these days.
|
Re: 52 Project
Yeah it seems like I have too many thinks going on and the truck/car projects have gotten put on the back burner. I am sure here pretty soon I will get a chance to have a good work week:confused:   .

Re: 52 Project
Nice job Bernie, you are making great progress !!
Was that a kit from *****en? Is that what i need for a tunnel for a 700R to fit the floor of my 53/49? |
Re: 52 Project
Solid, Yeah that is a *****in firewall and front floor kit. The back half is in good shape so we only went with the front half of the floor. I don't know if it will fit a 700, but I can tell you in a few weeks how it fits a 400....ok maybe a couple months..lol. I forgot all about getting you the measurement on the front axle centerline. I won't be able to make it out there for a couple of weeks if you still need it I will try to remember to measure it for you.
Bernie |
Re: 52 Project
Fordet the measurments, I had some help with the numbers and they are within 1/8" +/- so I went with them.
The only question I had was the rear bump stops C/L and 116" to the front axle C/L this did not measure out correctly, -1". I did check three other measurments and they we close enough for the girls we go with!!! Next measurment will be the motor mount placement, W/O the cab in place, I am hoping I can so it from the rear crossmember mount forward to engine mount, and then set the angle! You are making good progress, what brake kit are you using? |
Re: 52 Project
I still need to relocate the motor so that won't be for a while. We are using the MII setup from Heidts on the front and Wilwood on the rear. We still have a ways to go before we get to the brakes. Hopefully there won't be too many problems with the brake system but I won't know til I get there.

Re: 52 Project
Man that is some really nice work you did pgf545! I love that fire wall!
|
Re: 52 Project
I agree, good work. My brother will want to see this. My mom's '54 needs new floors. Thanks for the pics!

Re: 52 Project
Thanks Cal and Daniel. I think my dad was getting a little impatient with all my cutting and fitting but it really came out nice. I think he will be impressed with the final outcome.
Daniel, I am going to take it back apart to do the welding and I will try to get some step by step photos for you. I got a little ahead of myself and missed some shots. If you have any questions let me know. Bernie |
Re: 52 Project
you know it would be ashame to cover this with carpet. can't you just pollish it up....
NICE GT |
Re: 52 Project

I got the door hinges rebuilt this weekend...actually I started last weekend. The worst part was getting the old ones apart. It only cost me a burn on the arm and a wacked thumb.;) Here are a few shots I took while I was doing them. Enjoy!!!
|
Re: 52 Project
And how many hours do we have in them for 5.00 worth of parts!!!
|
Re: 52 Project
Exactly!!! It is a pain but hopefully it will straighten up the doors.

Re: 52 Project
Your Progress looks great!!!! That Camaro would look great next to my Truck!!!
|
Re: 52 Project
The Camaro is next. Once I get the floors in the truck my dad is going to start the body work on it. Then I get to get some stuff done on the Camaro...yaaaahooooooo. Maybe one day I will get it going and we can meet and then it would be next to your truck:) :metal: .

Re: 52 Project
Outstanding. It's good to see local folks into keeping old steel on the streets. At you current pace, you'll have yours beating the streets of League City before I make it back to finish mine!!!
I'll be back at the end of next month and will pull mine out and tow it to a local storage room. The wife decided that it was time to get into a new house so, I have to get it moved for her while I'm back (or risk her doing it for me!!!). Wish I had time to buzz over and lend a hand while I'm back but, I promised to take the crew on a vacation on my leave this time. If I don't do it, you'll see my face on the news one evening: "Last night, a man was pummeled by his enraged family, screams were heard throughout the neighborhood...). Keep up the great work. Maybe we'll run across one another one day. Take care, Jon |
Re: 52 Project
Hey Jon long time. When you coming home? You have been over there a long time. I don't know about beating this thing before you cause we seem to be taking a long time...lol. Hopefully later this summer we can make some big progress.
Bernie |
Re: 52 Project
Coming back the 24th of next month. It'll be a busy two weeks with getting the panel truck where it can be towed to a storage room, packing truck parts/garage stuff and out of that, a week and a half will be down in Mexico. June 7 will be one year. We hope to set the platform in the Gulf of Thialand by Feb of next year so, still a ways to go.
Shoot, you're making great progress. At the time I was building on mine, I really wanted to go with the exact firewall and floorpan that you have put in...for obvious reasons...it looks damn good. Money was tight so, I saved on the money and started sealing all of the holes in my firewall. Once I start again, the moneys is now not as tight so, I still may go back and cut out both and redo. If I don't, it'll probably always bug me. Hang in there, your doing great! Later, Jon |

Yeah I am finally getting the floor welded in. I got the inner kick panels in last weekend and got the main floor in. Also I started on the panels that connect the floor to the firewall but I didn't get any pic of that yet. Here are a few pics that I took today.

Re: 52 Project
Looking good. What are your plans with the interior? More specifically the insulation. I don't want to hear any outside noise if possible. Just curious.
|
Re: 52 Project
Daniel, haven't really thought about that yet, i am just trying to get the thing back together...lol.

I finally got the floor completely welded in this past weekend. I still have some clean up work to do and a little finish welding but here are a few pictures for now. Soon I am going to take the cab off and get the motor placed in the right position...hopefully in the next week or so...lol.

Re: 52 Project
I got tired just watching you do all that work !!!!!!
I guess I am up for some hours of trial and fix it right this time!! What did you use to cut the rear at the seat location (the long cut) is it butted or overlapped? |
Re: 52 Project
Solid, I used a cuttoff wheel mounted on a 4" grinder. It went really fast and left a nice finish. I just marked a line and followed it the best I could then cleaned it up with a little air angle grinder. The floor kit came with a tube that mounts under the old and new floors to add support and to weld the floors to. The tube is about 1 1/2 x 3 and comes in 2 pieces with a center connector that you plug weld once you have set the length. The *****in kit that we got was really nice and came with all the pieces you see here. It did take a little time to fit everything the way I wanted it but it came out really nice. If you have anymore questions let me know.
Bernie |
Re: 52 Project
I bought a *****en kit from a guy that he had sitting around and was onto another project, but I don't know if I have all of the parts to it. The 1 1/2 tube that you mention I think I am missing! Does this piece go from door to door under the seat?
I do have some short pieces that are for the cab mounts, is it that size tubing? |
Re: 52 Project
Your floor turned out really nice Bernie!

Solid, Here is a couple of pictures of the tube welded into the original floor. I couldn't find any of it out of the truck. Also you should have 2 angle brackets that should be painted red on the frame side that you weld to the cab and to the frame to support the cab while you remove the original floor and rewelding the new floor. Those are the brackets you can see from the last 2 shots. Let me know if you need anything else.
