The latest work I did was have a custom front drive shaft made up by Tom Woods. With the 700R4 and the 4 bolt flange type front out put ( Later model NP205 ) there wasn't enough clearance between the CV joint & the 700 pan. Even with the smaller CV joint and dimpling the pan it's still close.
Other than that I've been collecting parts, new seat cover, blower motor, carpet, NOS arm rests, head light bezels, shifter boot & ring, gauge bezel. lots of goody's. The house is my current project, painting and changing things to make it my house !!! |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
ANY updates on this Beauty?
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
I haven't done much of any physical work on it for a while, but I have still been collecting parts. The motor that's in it now is comming out, because I picked up a vortec 383 that's going in. It's a fresh long block, I just bought all the accessories for it just need to get going on this again. I also picked up the following NOS parts : R & L inner fenders, R front fender & a complete grill.
Life has brought many distractions my way, but this will get going again soon, It's time ! Gary |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey Gary. Glad to see you still hanging around. I hope everything is going well for you.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Things are going OK !!! But I always thought that life was supposed to get easier as we got older, that things would just fall into place "LOL"
But I have learned that Nothing comes easy, you have to work hard to make things work, and finding the time for everything Huh ! This project is coming back up to the top of my list, and it will get done "LOL" Gary |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey Gary,
Any new progress lately? |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
I've just started working on this project again. I have 2 new bed sides & a cowl hood coming, and I'm working on my vortec 383 stroker right now. I'm trying to determine what the cam is and wether or not it will work for this application. I may have to pull the cam and see if there's any numbers to ID it .

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Any progress? I am going through a divorce myself. Married ten years here. Truck was bought prior to my marriage so hopefully I don't have to buy her half.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey Matt !
Sorry to hear about you divorce, it's no fun !!! But things do get better... No progress lately. I've been working on friends projects and no my own. I also just got home from a fishing trip to Alaska and that took all my extra cash. I have stocked up on lots of parts and plan to get back on track durring the winter months when there isn't much else to do. Good luck with keeping your truck through the divorce. I was able to hang onto mine with out having to pay out anything. If there's something that she really wants trade her that item for the truck ! Gary |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Updates?
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Still collecting parts & pieces, but the actual work on the truck has been on the back burner for a while. House projects are eating up my time and money right now. Re-doing my kitchen, hopefully after the kitchens done I'll get back to it.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey everyone, It's been a while but this project is coming back to life !!!
I've been collecting lots of parts for the build and now it's time to bring this up to the top of my "To Do List".... Tomorrow everything that needs stripping is getting loaded up and will be dropped off to get blasted. I've done a fare amount of research on this and have chosen this place Classic Car Blasting : http://www.classiccarblasting.com/our-work.html I met with them and they started this business do to having some inexperienced blaster ruin body panels on their own project. It looks like they do nice work from what I saw in their shop. Another good thing about them, is there about 5 miles from my house. Picture to follow soon !!! Gary |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Good deal Gary.
Time for some "therapy". :metal::metal: Subscribed for updates. |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
post up some pics of it when you can.:gmc2:

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks Guys !
I'll get some pictures up once some blasting has been completed. We'll be focusing on the cab & doors to begin with. I'm hoping there won't be any big surprises, I know one rocker will most likely need replacing, but the remainder looks very good. The basic truck came out of California, but parts had been removed from the previous own for other projects. ( Just couldn't understand that, a 55,000 mile SWB 4x4 Cheyenne :banghead::banghead: ) Most everything I've bought as far as sheet metal has come from Cali, Az and TX, so everything should be in very nice shape. I'm having all the body work & paint done professionally this time, no garage paint by me on this one. |

Where did you get attachment on the engine hoist for the lifting of the cab?
I need someone like that for mine. |

I made it. It's not that hard if you can weld at all, and have access to some steel. It works really slick, it turns cab removal & install into a one man job ! It's also adjustable and should work on almost any cab !

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Well it's raining here so I told the blaster to hold off until next week, the body shop won't be ready for about a week anyway.
I've placed several orders for parts, a couple of big ones:
Here's a link to the Body Shop I'm using: http://www.colonialautobody.net/ The owner is my neighbor, he makes his money on collision repairs but takes on a few projects from time to time. He won't have his guys work on it, he will personally do my truck. I'll post pics when stuff arrives. Gary |

Stopped at the blasters today and this is what I saw !!! No unexpected surprises, a few dents, one rocker needs replacing !!!! They are not quite done yet a little more on the cab and then the doors. This is about 6 hrs so far, they use crushed glass and low pressure so nothing gets damaged ! This is one solid cab !!! What do you guys think ?

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Looks good, what did they use for blasting material.
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
They use crushed glass, it's very fine and the use lower air pressure so there's no damage to the sheet metal ! It takes more time & costs a bit more, but I believe it's worth it !
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Looking good Gary. That's a nice foundation to start with.;)
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks !!!
I'll post pics of the doors when I can, but they should be just as nice as the cab ! |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Love the project. I'm gonna start on mine pretty quick, what did you paint the frame with ? Thanx
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
It was sand blasted, epoxy primed then topped with urethane.

Pics of the doors after blasting ! Other than some extra holes for different mirrors these doors are awesome. My body guy said he will weld them up and I'd never know they were there ! The white & tiny bit of black you see is seam sealer, there is hardly even a pit from rust. You just don't find parts like this around New England !!!
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Nice doors for the east coast!

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )

|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Awesome starting point, not much work at all...we should all be so lucky to have a solid body like that in the great north east lol
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks !!!
The only reason I have this nice rust free sheet metal is having freinds with connections with truckers. I buy the stuff out west and get it shipped back. Thank god I have most everything now because the guy I used the most got out of trucking !!! |
