Re: pics from my trip
Andy,
I just want to say thanks for sharing your experience of drivin' da Burb cross country. It was a real treat reading each new post ( along with accompanying pictures, even!). What a great time you had getting to meet all the board members you spent time with. You certainly have a gift for storytelling. What I want to know is, how did you ever manage to make it back to Ohio with all the Dew and Red Bull you drank. I would've had to stop for a "pee" break every other rest area. BTW: Brad, if you can read this, that is, if you have access to a computer.... I must say, Frankentruck is lookin' as cool as ever!:metal: |
Re: pics from my trip
LOL!!!
Well, I normally made a stop every 100 to 200 miles. Which, is about as often as I stopped for fuel. |
Re: pics from my trip
great trip Andy, glad it worked out for you and that you beat "Murphy's Law"
however........... you talked about the numerous hotties..........:hm: where are those pics........ |

A man, a mission, a long stretch of road, and a "cruisemobile"......sounds like heaven to me!
Buck a gallon fuel would've made it orgasmic! I second the hottie pics!!! Thanks for sharing your trip....too cool. |
Re: pics from my trip
Very cool! Good luck with the build.

I wish I had been paying attention to your road trip sooner, about an hour before you took these pics, you were about 5 miles from my well-equiped shop. 15 minutes later, you were passing the town I'm working in. |
Re: pics from my trip
Awesome... now I know where I was! :haha: Thanks.
Yeah, I put out a few threads on my trip plans before I went.. but didn't get many numbers on this revised route. The original route I had gotten a butt load of contacts, but only a few on this more southern route. |

Original reply by CG Hey now, that Ford has drug home many a Chevy truck for me. Unfortunately its time has passed and it awaits a trip to the scrap yard. He gave his last breath for one of our trucks Hey Brad! As I write this you're probably still in an airplane! Have fun, be safe and come back to us soon! |
Re: pics from my trip
yep, I spoke to brad last night too... he probably is still in flight. Can't wait to hear from him... my trip was nothing compaired to his.
|
Re: pics from my trip
Awesome recount of the trip. LH if you think CO is pretty you'd have been in heaven on the original route. Spokane WA to Missoula MT is one of the most scenic stretches of Freeway I've ever driven. The veterans memorial bridge in C'dA is a nice one to see. It was a bummer when plans changed to the southerly route but all in all it looks like great trip. Enjoy the burb.

Re: pics from my trip
there was a LOT more for me on the southern route. :D
|
Re: pics from my trip
:cong: Andy, You and the Burb made it. That was a great story. It's great how these trucks bring us together. Oh, I had to put Brad's truck on my desktop too, because that's a good looking truck. Nice truck Brad. I will use the photo shopped one for a bit... if you don't mind. Oh, Be safe Brad.
Great story Andy!!:metal: This stuff is awsome! |
Re: pics from my trip
PM me your e-mail addy, and I'll send you a high-res photo of his truck... makes a better wall paper.

Re: pics from my trip
t/y jack... it was the trip of a life time!
|
Re: pics from my trip
Andy, I only paid $3.00 for my cooler...so HA! You know, you could have applied those stickers after you stole it though!! Maybe you came through here after all, and didn't tell me!! (I wish you would have stolen the 68 instead).
BTW, Chuck Taylors rock! |
Re: pics from my trip
I'd love to have a 68 short step to add to the fleet... I'll trade you a real cool cooler, and a slightly worn pair of chuck taylors!
|
Re: pics from my trip
I have a 68 short step Ive been thinking about getting rid of...you have an interest? We need a reason for another get together =)
|
Re: pics from my trip
LOL!!!
Plenty of interest... lack of fundage! I want your son's burb thrown into the deal if i go clear out there again! |
Re: pics from my trip
lol just read the build andy looks like an awesome experience any idea on how many miles you put on the burb doing the whole trip and about how much did you spend in fuel?! or do you even want to think about that?! lol! :) thanks for a great story!
|
Re: pics from my trip
Thanks for telling the burb story. Hope to get to see it and meet you at the board meet in 08. Keep on rockin
|
Re: pics from my trip
2800 or so miles gas was somewhere around 500 - 600 bucks IIRC.
|
Re: pics from my trip
Great write up Longhorn Man! I trust next time someone drives out west, I'll be contacted ahead of time and will be able to join in on the fun..
|
Re: pics from my trip
lol, i dunno how you missed it! it was all over the board. Either way... it was awesome, and if you ever get the chance to join in on a board gathering... even if its just a work party... do it. You'll never forget it.
|
Re: pics from my trip
What size shoe do you wear Andy? I'm a 13 wide. Although I do have two pairs of Converse shoes that are 13Rs that fit fine...so I went ahead and ordered a pair of Chucks last night :D Almost ordered a set of custom ones off their site, but they were too spendy.
|
Re: pics from my trip
Sounds like you had a blast on that trip....glad everything worked out well for you getting back home. Traveling around in these old trucks is a blast.
|
Re: pics from my trip
10R TJ... I gues the trade is off then. :(
|
Re: pics from my trip
That is so cool.
I can't see myself ever pulling something like that off not unless I had all of those guys from the Verizon comercials following me. How much did you know about the Burb before you made the decision to drive it home? I can probably answer that myself; "it starts, moves forward under it's own power and is only 3000 miles from my drivway? dude I'm on my way!!! :metal: |
Re: pics from my trip
well, another board member did go and look it over, and verified that it was a decent truck... CG did send me about 15 hi-res photos that i scrutinized very carefully, plus he and I spoke about it a few times on the phone.
In all reality, I didn't have enough info to do something like this... but I went over it a little before leaving, and I got a good vibe. I did have a somewhat of a back up plan to get home without the burb... but I had every intention of buying it. CG was kinda nervouse about the trip... I think more so than I was. But, as we all know, it all ended up good in the end. He's happy, I'm real happy, and everyone had a good time. Plus now i have a sweet ass burb. ;) |
Re: pics from my trip
I guess the main thing is you went into it with the right attitude.
I can't really say much since I drove from Dallas to Northern Va (DC area) in a 91 Mercedes 560sel that I had for less than 6 mos, and 5 of those it was broke down because the crank pulley and balancer fell of the engine. The balancer actually split at the grove for the woodruff key and spun on the crank until it worked it's way off the crank. BIG FUN! The biggest thing I was worried about was I never knew what caused it to do that. Seeing your pic and everything I wish I would of taken more pictures, but at the same time I did the iron man thing and drove straight through, stopping for gas, a red bull and and water. |
Re: pics from my trip
yep... you gotta live a little once in a while.
Some would call this stupid Some would say it's nothing at all. Some say ballsey. I say a combination of the first and the third. |
