Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
got some more work to report...
the driver side inner rocker pnl, front cab pillar, lwr footwell, and outer rocker are all welded on... each peice was coated with rust bullet rust inhibitor , inside and out...all went together with minor set backs...the outter rocker needed to move outboard about 1/8" to make it streight and line up with the fender...so i cut it open and moved it out bout 1/8" and welded it back up with a new 'V' shaped metal wedge added in the gap... http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3737.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3738.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3741.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3745.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3746.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3747.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3749.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3756.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3759.jpg |
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
Don/ Hulk,
Is that the outer cab floor extentsion you are using for the inner rocker replacement? LMC part 38-7904 and 38-7905 for $99.95 each. Great looking progress thus far, you give inspiration to us all, even to those that have never done this type of repair before. |

Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
quick update as to this weekend progress... located the A/C bulkhead under the pass fender in the cab cowl area, so it'll be all hidden....after i got it located i started to apply rust inhibitor (runs will be smoothed after it dries), both inside and out.. also here is the cab corner cut off and the rust inhibitor applied...

Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
man some of those pictures look like they came from my garage....are you sure you're not secretly working on my cab? :)

Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
im over due for an update, so here it goes.....
got the cab corner on the dr side fitted and welded on... then with the majority of the metal work on the cab done, with a little help from my brother and friends, we pulled the cab off....after the cab was off, i preped the frame for surgery... it started life as a long bed, but is now a short bed.....this truck is gonna be on air so i c-nothed it, it rests in the notch when its aired out (which is 3")also got most the suspension here (with the exception of a few backordered parts)..... http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3777.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_3778.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/101_0008.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/101_0009.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/101_0013.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/101_0014.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0016.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0017.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0019.jpg |
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
hey that frame work is rokcrin like....VERY SWEET!!!
So what did u make the fish plates out of? Any idea where we gonna mount the air tank at? Can u explain to me what the measurement in the pict. is supposed to me telling me??? pardon the ignorance... Does the airride set up seem like pretty good quality stuff??? Hope it was worth the $$$ ? |
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
looking good, i was going to ask for an update.
|
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
Very nice work!
You didn't kid around when you order from ART. You will have to let use know how those adjustable shocks work. |
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK

- the air tank is long, and mounting it ( i breifly tried to find a good spot for it) will be kinda tricky.... but ill get er done.. - the rear air bag fully deflated is 3" tall, so we wanted the air bag mounting points to be 3" appart when aired out...to do this the rear axle needed to come up, thats part of the reason we c-notched it..the other reason we notched it, is cause we want about 4" of suspension travel ( altho we will have bout 5" of possible travel) - the kit is AWSOME, cant be any better IMO and no, we arnt playin around with this build!!! |
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
Thanks for clairifying....and i second that notion....we ain't playin around!

Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
powerwashed the frame to keep my hands and the new parts from getting dirty during mock-up.. tore-off the front and rear suspension and got the bags (all 4 corners) installed, drilled the bag mounting plates for the front, installed the lower tubular control arms, located and drilled the shock mounts, and finally assembled it all for mock-up (less the muscle-bar sway bar)

Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
how did those rear plates and cups work, you think the rear end will still get just as low as it would it you bolted it in place of original spring... and was is a pain to drill the frame?
Also, on a sour note.. you heard anything on your truck, i've gotta go get mine one of these weekends, wish it was closer!! |
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
Some nice look'n work your doing there. Do you have any idea of what those two greens are called? That's kind of the look i'm wanting to have.
|
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
grimss, i have no idea what greens those are.... might ask 71hulk....
got the air ride components all mounted..... tank is mounted under the cab, and the two compressors are about 1.5' behind that under the bed.. the valves are on the crossmember just behind the rear axle.... i ran the lines through the front crossmember and secured them by drilling and tapping a hole, installing a screw, and finally securing the line with a cushion clamp....it was time consuming, but i didnt want that line rubbing anything... next was time to mount the ride hight sensors.. where i mounted the sensors there was about a 1" gap that need a spacer made... so i got some round stock, cut it , drilled and tapped it, then welded it to the frame... it all came out looking good... here are a few pics... http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0137.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0138.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0139.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0144.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0141.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0140.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0148.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0146.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0151.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0150.jpg |
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
Nice work and great progress!
I really should order the LevelPro upgrade for my setup. The old "Ride Height to Start" feature from version one is marginal at best... |
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
what shocks are those? I've been thinking of some QA1 shocks for mine, but haven't really looked/measured enough to know which ones to get. Did the frame bracket come with the kit too?
|
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
Wow... Coming along good! All the best parts going on it! Looks Killer!

hey dude...you got the hulk lookin good...Will you be painting the frame or will you guys powder coat it???
|
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
killer it'll be painted..
got some motor mount ls1 adaptor plates, so i was able to mock-up the mock-up engine... and with this truck i set the motor 1" further back for 2 reasons 1) is cause these control arms are beefier then stock, and i fear the headers will interfer with them on the dr. side. and 2) cause we're gonna run a f-body oil pan for ground clearance....also got the center x-member drilled out and the trailing arms out, cause all this is gonna get replaced with new ECE stuff.. here are the pics http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0154.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0160.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0161.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0162.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0167.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0168.jpg |

If you use these headers, I don't think you'll have a problem with clearance, :).

Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
alright, got most all the suspension mocked-up...the rear also has the hidden receiver hitch set-up....fully dumped the lience plate 'box' is about 4.5" from the ground.....looks pretty cool IMO... with it being that low the relocation bracket from the ECE panhard bar kit wont work... it locates the panhard bar almost touching the bottom of the frame (second to last pic).. so im gonna make a bracket to locate it to the actual trailing arm, lowering the attaching point to a better position for a truck being lowered this much (last pic).....

Dude! I didn't know you were building a slammed dually!!!! :metal: :D

Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
Lookin' good! A set of 1.5" or 2" lowering blocks would fix your panhard interference problem and allow for more air in the bags at ride height. This will give a better ride and help have your bags at the correct installed height- this will be especially true if you are running drop spindles up front.
How did you get that compressor to fit so nicely? |

you talkin bout the A/C compressor or the air system compressors? |

You have a little leeway in how tall the bag can be, but not much. Most (2600lb)bags are designed to be installed at ride height at 6" tall. You can waiver either way by a 1/2" or so, but outside of that they will not ride as well. You can use the blocks to keep the bags at 6" installed, but ride 2" lower than you would without them. Think of the bag as a non-adjustable coil spring when at ride height. The pressure will vary based on load, but the overall height should be 6". Clear as mud? I was asking about the A/C compressor. It seems to fit very well. Is it smaller than the usual truck compressor? |
Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
the a/c compressor and mounting bracket are for a truck/suv....dunno why you have any problems with mounting it there... ive done a couple of these swaps and they all tuck right there in the frame rail nicely...

Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
getting some more work done....got the trans cooler installed, drilled and located the trans x-member, mounted the rear hight sesnors, and a little more cab body work.... the lwr part of the dr. side cowl was roted out, so it was cut out and a new peice made......
also the truck oil pan was traded out for a f-body pan....now the pan is bout 1.5 inches above the front x-member, just how we wanted it...:metal: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0082.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0087.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0090.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0076.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0075.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0085.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0086.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0084.jpg |

Re: project INCREDIBLE HULK
and now for the heart of the beast......
this is a 6.2L with a 6L80E trans... for those who arnt familur with these GEN4 engines, this is a big bad mamajama, it has 403 HP and 418torque stock with varitable valve timeing (VVT)... the 6L80E trans is a automatic 6 speed with 2 overdrives.... but this isnt gonna be a stock engine when we're done with it, so more HP will be gained :metal: here is some pics of the engine and trans....also included is the 6l80e compaired to a 4l60e trans... http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0107.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0108.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0109.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0110.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0112.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0255.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0256.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/100_0242.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...k/000_0113.jpg |
