Here's my 1961 3/4 ton. Some of these pictures are from an earlier post. I'm planning on getting a new exhaust on Monday. My kids and I are really enjoying working on this together.

Well, I'm sure most of you have seen pictures of my truck on here before but I'll post them again for this thread. I like all 60-66 trucks but the '63 is the perfect year for me. It has the coil spring front suspension in place of the 60-62 torsion bars which makes them easy to lower and still retain decent ride quality and it's the last year for the wrap around windshield and double hump dash. I know the 64-66 A pillars are more user friendly but the wrap around windshield on the 60-63s just has so much more style and these trucks were built when the manufacturers still gave a hoot about style!!!

For lots more photos click on the links in my signature, the first one links to my photo gallery on this site and it starts with the first day I had my truck and you can follow along as it transforms from a long stepside bed truck to a short stepside then to the short fleetside that you see here today. Thanks for looking everybody! You all have some sweet 60-63 trucks!

Here are a few pictures of the '62 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 Suburban my brother and I bought in Medford, OR. I am flying out there to visit and we are hauling it back to Kansas City on a flatbed in the next month or so. It is all original and complete. It is also relatively rust & dent free. It should be a fun project to tinker with.

Did all of the GMC's in this time frame have the same grille?
I always like these hoods better than the Chemmys, because of the park lights.

The '62 is just sitting all torn apart. I used the air ride parts and the motor out of it to build this one. I am going to start gathering parts for it and hopefully do it up right with new panels and pretty paint and whatnot. How goes progress on your '62? (the best year)

Oh yeah, GMC used the same grille for all years. I to am very partial to the '62 and up GMC hood. They look awesome with the parking lights filled in.

I am wanting to get her back on the road soon. Right now I am cleaning the frame, engine bay, sanding surface rust, and odd and end things. Scared to put some more money in her due to the economy. The engine needs refreshining, brakes need checked. The tranny is leaking at the seal. So I probably need to get her road worthy.

Re: Post Your 60-63 Body Style Chevy/GMC Trucks

They gave me a hood that had a really crappy mold. It didn't line up in any way and the construction was horrible. The top, rear of the hood where it meets the cowl panel was 3/4" high on one side and 7/8" on the other. Once brought down, The mold was so thin, light could be seen even with the blacked out underside. They did a crappy job of blocking it also. And they had used two different primers on the top because it appears that they noticed a particularly crappy section and attempted to fix it. Everytime we sanded it down and blew it off more pinholes appeared which had to be drilled/filled. It's a crappy job in all aspects and I expect that the hood used for the mold was atleast half rusted out. I'll never do business with them again. Check out my thread to see some pics of all of the screw ups and work that we put in.

Sounds like those jokers are related to each other! Brothers maybe! Yeah, my hood came in the same shape. I will post pics later. Looked like was used, or a reject from the QC line if they have one. Well I guess I will keep my bed and just make it look better. Not really happy with the mini tubs. We will see. I want the bed to look awsome. I'm going to have the wood done right and unique!

Re: Post Your 60-63 Body Style Chevy/GMC Trucks

Sounds like one of the best ideas I've heard. You could probably do some thinner metal in the rear. Roll pan instead of bumper, maybe pull out a cross sill or make them lighter. Weld in a flat medium gauge steel across the rear where the tailgate sits. Little things like that. Depends on what all you're wanting on it.
