Re: post latest 1/4 and 1/8 mile times and 60ft.

Went 10.11@136.6 a couple weeks ago. The 1/8 was 6.54@109 and 60ft was 1.64. Track was greasy due to it being 90 degrees and rain the night prior so really not a bad day come to think of it. This was leaving on the footbrake with 0psi and 18 psi by the end of the track so there is still some left. Now I just switched to E85 so we'll see what happens next time.

Re: post latest 1/4 and 1/8 mile times and 60ft.

Yeah, it has more all around in it. Usually the 60's are mid 1.5's. Best of 1.53 with a lot less power than I have now so it's just a matter of playing around with things. Going back to the track next weekend. Hopefully it will hook and I can bring the boost in quicker and then the et should fall nicely if that works. Should be interesting as with the E85 I can tell it has more power just driving around.

It spun just a little. I think my trailing arms being a foot shorter than stock helps it plant the tires (used to be a longbed leaf spring truck)

Dougminton- nice times, Id like to see what it would run with like a 28" tire and those 4.11s! Man I would think 12.6s-12.8s no problem!

You shortened the trailing arms?
Are they in the factory location (front eyelet) regarding both height and location on the frame?

I was unaware the long beds and shortbeds having different control arm lengths.

I left the crossmember in the longbed location when I shortened the frame to make it a shortbed. So I designed my own suspension loosely based on the stock stuff. Pic is with everything just tacked together to check the fit.

Super73 12-21-2010 03:52 PM

Re: post latest 1/4 and 1/8 mile times and 60ft.

That looks like the stock location for the shortbed as well. I notice you made the front mounting point adjustable, good idea.

Springs appear to be furtner back towards the axle than on a shortbed. That will put less leverage on the spring, meaning you can run a lighter spring rate than a similar weighted truck with stock location. There are pros and cons for this.

My guess on why you are not getting much tire spin at the track would be directly related to gearing and converter. You have a TH400 which has a 2.48 fist gear and a 3.08 rear gear with a 32" tire. Not sure about verter. That combo's means you have an amazingly lazy first gear and you are not hitting the tires very hard at all.

For comparison sake:
TH400 + 3.08 + 32" + 6,000 in first = 71mph
TH350 + 2.73 + 35" + 6,000 in first = 71mph
Powerglide + 3.73 + 28" + 6,000 in first = 72mph

dougminton 12-21-2010 03:56 PM

Re: post latest 1/4 and 1/8 mile times and 60ft.

shortbed factory location is 12" forward of where mine is. They had just VHTed the track. It'll turn em into smoke at 30 MPH on the street.converter will go 4000 on the foot brake.

If that is the case, then the shorter arm coupled with the geometry change will put more angle in it effectively increasing antisquat numbers forcing the tire in to the ground. Did the rear feel like it raised at all under launch? Or does it stay level or even squat?

A well preped street im most cases is not as good as a non preped track :) If they just VHTed it and is hadn't gone away, that could be a major factor.

That's a good size verter, but it is still like a TH350 with a 35" tire and a 2.73 gear. Here is another comparison TH350 + 4.10 + 53" tire = your current gearing. The 4.10's are really going to wake that thing up!!! TQ Multiplication is going to be huge, 29% difference in gearing alone!! Can't wait to see your improvements. Just make sure you have a tire on it that will stick it because I think you are going to need it.

Dang you must have some good brakes to hold that rpm.
I can barely get mine to hold 3400 before it pushes through.

Re: post latest 1/4 and 1/8 mile times and 60ft.

You are definately inducing 100% + antisquat then.. Move control arm to the top hole and you will induce even more. When I had mine above 100% antisquat, traction on the unprepped airport track that I was racing was hard to come by as it would shock the tires too hard if I stood on it. Simply lowering the mounting point made a huge difference for the unprepped airstrip. The lower you go, the less hit, the higher you go the more hit. That place hooked as bad as a bad street.. Just food for thought.

The hydro boost is genius. I never thought of that for a race application only off road.
That would allow a motor that's boosting a huge advantage.
