I think of these Hot Wheels as 73-80s...Ramblin' Wrecker and Backwoods Bomb:

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
My Larry's Towing Ramblin' Wrecker was always one of my favorites as a kid. Did you know that when that one was originally issued, it had the actual home phone number of Larry Wood (the designer) on the side. He was getting lots of phone calls before they reissued it. If you can ever find one of those with the phone number, it's worth some big money.

I always liked these, too. Yes,I did know about the ones with Larry Wood's #. I'm holding out for an excellent to mint. I just got a mint yellow one I'm real happy about. Those were in a set,so no package. I wanted to bid that packaged original shown. I don't have PayPal (ever) and for some unsolvable reason can't get it under my current Ebay name and e-mail. So,I always send a message asking if a postal money order would be accepted before I bid and how this is how all my transactions have been carried out with great success (100%). Out of 50 or more purchases I've had 3 say no and that guy (DH) was one of them. HWC reissued that same white truck commemorating Larry's 40th ann. and a Charcoal one as a HWC issue
The Backwoods Bomb came in Green w/dragon tampo. Then, there's a blue version (fairly rare) with a stripe tampo, which is the same tampo as on the '12 re-issue in the same Green as the one w/dragon. I got the ok to bid on that blue one in the package, went to check it out and it was already up to $68 or so,and I didn't bid. That thing ended up at $169!! |

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
I've seen the Monster Jam trucks and I have both of the Hot Wheels Racing trucks. I still need to get my hands on that blue Hot Ones truck there.

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
I found this in purple with green flames !!
|
Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
The purple with the green flames is the older variation. The design of the graphics is the same on the 2 trucks, just different colors.

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
I finally got my hands on two of the orange trucks the other day so I could bust one open.

The yellow one showed up in a Sneak Peeks in a HW Collector's Club e-mail I got, so it should be regular line.
This one, on the other hand, is a Super Treasure Hunt. |
Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
ah, so there is yellow and gold, well great... now I want the gold one. dang it even says treasure hunt on the paint.
|
Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
I see my chances of actually finding the gold one hanging on the pegs somewhere being somewhere between slim and none, so if I want it, I'll likely have to resort to eBay. :(

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
So, I finally found me a yellow one today. I was digging through one of Wal-Mart's *%^*^&%!!! dump bins today. I knew it was the right assortment for the yellow Silverado, but I was about to give up and walk away when I saw a yellow tailgate peeking up at me from deep in the bin. I pulled it out and kept digging, but never found anything else.
Also, earlier this week I stumbled across this HW Road Trippin' Silverado. I don't know how I missed that it even existed. Unfortunately, I only found one of it as well, so I'll be looking so I can crack one open. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g5...ps4060f29a.jpg |
Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread

Our Walmart does not have the boxes but Kroger does .

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
I'm still on the search for more. The one yellow I found was in a dump bin, hence the crappy condition of the card.

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
I found one of the gold ones yesterday ,still looking for more .

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
I was just about to post about this. I have a Kmart in two directions about 1/2 hr away. If I can get to one I'll get what I can. They'll be all over Ebay for sure. I really like that Flying Colors issue. Gotta get me one
|
Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
I don't want to have to resort to eBay, but I also don't really want to have to deal with crazy collectors at the Collector Day. I've heard you can buy Collector Day cases online, so I'm thinking about that route, but then I might not end up with as many trucks as I'd like where I'd have a better chance in the store. I'd like to get 4 (2 for me and 1 each for my boys). I dunno how I'm going to do this one yet.
|
Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
I've never gone to the store on one of these days. It would be a first time experience for me. I don't even go to the grocery store on Black Friday or go for any type of sale where people crowd to the stores. If I go to a circus I want to see dancing elephants :ele:
|
Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread
I checked the local Kmart this weekend and they had only three slides of hot wheels. I was very disappointed. What is the KDAY event?
