Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
WOW, Great job!! I like them stock also. As for the tires, 31 10.50 15 will fit, but would look better with a wider wheel. They made 15 x 8 stock steel wheels that you can put the hub caps on. They look good with 31 10.50's or 33 12.50's. If you want to keep the 6" wheels, they make 33 9.50 15 tires. Cant wait to see it done!!

Thanks Mike........I tried "Wrapping" the link as well as the youtube embedded link every way possible...never thought of just copying and pasting the addy! Anyways, I indeed got the engine started today....w/virtually no issues....one small gas leak at the carb inlet.....then just timed it and adjusted the carb and she purred like a baby... I have the inital start up video but it's 30 min's long....I'm trying to find a way to shorten it up....This video was taken after the leak was fixed and we had her running good! Dan |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
use MS movie maker to shorten up videos...
sounds good but the camera makes it sound more like a tractor! did you have it rebuilt? |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics

Yea the camera does no justice on the sound....Actually I am really pleased with the sweet sound thats coming out of the $35 Dynamax mufflers....And yes the engine was rebuilt and bored 30 over with a baby cam.... |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
Dan,
You officially suck......:lol: And I thought getting my oil filter adapter installed this afternoon was an accomplishment. The video is awesome. Keep up the good work. I'm going to stand over there now and pout. |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
Ok...here is the initial start-up...happens about 1:00 min. in...
The older guy is Bud, the guy who did the rebuild...he wanted to be present when it got fired for the first time.... We had some timing light issues, so it's gets a bit boring....but it was exciting for me....I'm so stoked that we had no issues to speak of....I did have a light intermittent scratching sound coming from the flywheel/clutch area that lasted for a minute or two....then subsided...not sure what it was....But other than that all went well...!! |

I'm also building a 70 4x4 and I had the exact same problem w/ inline tube brake lines.I just sent them back.

Funny, Inline Tube now tells me to just throw away the other two sets they sent...one of which wasn't even for a chevy truck....at least there are no return shipping costs! |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
I also ordered stainless hoses from them and they were longer then they were supposed to be.I sent everything back and went with a different company

WOW Dan, great build man....Keep the pictures coming and keep up the great work!

Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
Started the wood bed conversion....Got it all diassembled and modified the front panel using the adapter flange from Mar-K. Actually went very fast...Only had about 3 hours total (2 guys).
I did learn that basically all I can really install right now (Pre-paint) is the main rear cross sill and the front panel....The intermediate cross sills will just be painted loose and then installed with the wood after paint http://lh4.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/SX...40/100_0139.JP http://lh4.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/SX...0/100_0135.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/SX...0/100_0132.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/SX...2/100_0143.JPG http://lh6.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/SX...0/100_0146.JPG |

Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
No real updates lately....I'm kinda stalled....Body has been in "body shop jail" and I'm a little low on funds right now...so It's all good!....However, all the body work is indeed complete and everything is now in urethane primer....
Now I'm trying to figure out the correct sequence to completing the wood bed conversion as far as paint is concerned??.. With the bed being fully dissambled, I'm wondering now, when should I do the actual assembly....after painting the loose bed panels ?.....or partial asssembly of the bed with rear cross sill and front panel only and then paint?....do I paint the intermediate sills loose ?....Or should I fully assemble everything now and just tape all the wood off ?...or maybe I can have the panels "Jammed" with paint, do the full asssembly and then paint the outside skins after the bed is back on the truck? I originaly purchased everything except the wood and hardware thinking I could reassemble the entire bed and then simply add the wood later...but I soon realized that you can do that as all of the intermediate cross sills sandwich the wood to the bed....! If anyone has any advise on this subject I would love to hear it! Dan |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
I put my bed together after paint. It was a time taker but it was worth it in the end. Just my $0.02:lol:
|
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
I would put it together to make sure it all fits, then take it apart and paint... then put it back together for a final install...

I just ordered my inline tube set so hopefully it works.. Since a 68 K-10 with discs and booster never existed we'll see. The guy told me that I should run the stock distro block and use a prop valve for the rear brakes.. thoughts? |

Jealously subscribing. Great work, and attention to detail, I likes.

Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
Well...I did list it but not really expecting to sell it.....More or less just trying to apease the wife as we are getting hit pretty bad with this economy...
I'm a straight commission sales guy for industrial warehouse equipment and our industry is really in the toilet right now....No capitol money available companies to expand & grow right now...and most of the companies who are in a position to do so are having a very hard time getting financed for equipment purchases or even leases.... So, it pretty much sucks right now for us....but I'm still working on the truck and have all intentions of finishing it....Actually started re-assembling the bed and test fitting the new wood....I really need the body painted but I don't think thats gonna happen for awhile! Dan |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
hope things get better for you..
|
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
Wow, my stomach sank when I saw the craigslist add. Sorry to hear about the tough times for you. I was laid off recently so I definitely know how you feel.
|
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
Dan,
Sorry to hear about your job. I hope things pick up for you soon. Like everyone else, I'd hate to see you sell your truck. |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
Thanks guys for the well wishes...Hopefully things turn around before too long!
Well, I have made a tiny bit progress anyways....Assembled the bed...test fit the new bed wood and drilled the necessary holes...also located the correct location of the cross sill mounting plates and welded them in place.... I think the bed is now ready to go back to the painters....In the meantime I will begin sanding and finishing the bed wood... Oh yea....I did have to pull out some of my secret "rat hole" money to buy these buddy buckets that I got off of a member....after a good cleaning, they look damn near new....I wasn't going to go with a blue interior....but I might have to now! http://lh5.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/Se...0/100_0195.JPG http://lh5.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/Se...0/100_0203.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/Se...0/100_0205.JPG http://lh6.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/Se...0/100_0204.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/Se...0/100_0194.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_2wzS50GoNjQ/Se...0/100_0197.JPG |

one done scott |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
good to see you making some progress again!
i hope things turn out for the better for you, it would be a real shape to have to let your truck go i may have missed it but i really like the look for your rim and tire combo and would like to run something similar on my 68k10, what size are the tires youve got? great work so far! nate |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
Thanks guys!
The tires are 30x9.5x15 BFG Mud Terrains....I was planning on going with a 31x10.5x15 All Terrain...but when I went to have them installed the place I got em said that I could not put them on a 15" x 6" rim.....that the biggest I could go was the 30x9.5 .....Though I have seen others do it, they said no....so I chose to go with mud-terrain instead. We'll see how it looks after the body is back on...I think it will have a nice aggressive stock look! |

Based on the research I did on the net....the consenses was that even though you can physically install a 10.5" tire on a 6" wide rim....it is really not recommended....tire manufactures guide is no more than 4" wider than the rim width.. So no biggie.....I'd rather be safe...I can always find some 7" wide wheels later if I don't like the look! |
Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics

Re: "FRAME OFF" Has Begun - Wish Me Luck! - Pics
Your build is impressive!!! Almost looks like an assembly manual from a custom GM factory!
No matter how much I wish I could have a truck that clean I sure hope you get to be the one to finish it!!! Thanks for the build thread... |
