Alright the pics beginning of working after we got a few more things, the batt died so we took it to get charged, picked it up moved it forward swept, and put it back.

The tubes we welded up the hoop is just tacked, and yes it is bent a little to far, and the top is a little off from being parrallel.

Re: Got a new truck

I have some recommendations for you my chevy drivin lil buddy. What I would do 1st is box the rest of the frame... maybe bend 2 pieces of tube _/------ something like this and box them inside of the existing frame that will give you the rear frame rails with some room under for articulation. then gusset n box the 2 piece frame rails on each side and shape them as you need. here is an example from pirate that I saw.. looks like an awsome design

Re: Got a new truck

that's some good recommendations.

i like the idea in the last pic. seems to make it be more supportive and overall sturdier.

i seen that build on pirate. turned out good till he tore into the front..then i lost interest.

onlyifihadachevy 09-21-2009 12:45 AM

Re: Got a new truck

I saw that build and was going to do something similar, but with out being able to see it first hand,i went with a different design. I feel my design is study, should have got a pic of how we did the part your talking about will tomarrow.

R+the truck at xxx traction.

Re: Got a new truck

Whoops, guess i will start another post, we took the hoop off and if we push down on the back the back has some flex that will be fixed by finishing the cage, but the front goes up too.

The start, it is narrowed to 20 inches at the big plate.
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...a5eb852998.jpghttp://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...101b2e7fd5.jpghttp://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...5acd27276d.jpg

HAd to make a make stift stand for the back.

the Brace for the middle bar.
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...dc612f4e57.jpg

How it sits, now, yes the hoop is a little crooked, but couldn't do anything about it, one side is bent a degree off, should mess anything up, just looks a little funny. WE are going for a exo cage because of head room. But, who knows maybe i will do my other one the same as this.

Re: Got a new truck

I forgot to mention the rock sliders we made, not the prettiest or strongest but should work. No pics, of them yet, will get some. We ran out of wire and my mom went for a walk so, we didn't work for a few hours and i took a nap cause nothing was on tv. Now i'm not tired at all but it is dark outside.

We will have a hub to hub measure at 120 with the front end at stock postition, and 126-130 if we link the front. The rear axle will be about 10-12 iinchs from the back of the back half, for a great departure angle. 90+ with 35s at full pressure and 90+ with 44s at 5 psi. the end of the frame to the cab is 56in if i remember right, and the axle was going to be 40 but were pushing it back another 6.

onlyifihadachevy 09-23-2009 04:03 PM

Re: Got a new truck

It good just trying to get the degrees down like the top hoop is off on one side by 1 degree but the length is off i think, its confusing . Did not work on it yesterday but when my dad gets home we will.

onlyifihadachevy 09-24-2009 07:05 PM

Re: Got a new truck

We worked on it some more and will a litttle later today, and pics will come later tonight as well. We got the rocker slider, the top hoop has more supports on it too.

Re: Got a new truck

WE did some work.

This was a few days ago

Yesterdays work sorry for bad pic.

http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...cb4e495ed7.jpghttp://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...e49807e0f0.jpg

it was wleded mostly yesterday but finished it up today, got the other side made and tacked, weld it up tomarrow, And finishing up the back half, or at least most of it. And the backhalf wil be done this weekend. We will start on the middle cage, I am going to with a exo cage. Hopefully we get the heims soon, so it will roll again. And wheel it! Should be wheeling in a month at best.

We picked up my other truck yesterday, it ran great a little loud, no stereo and boggers going down the highway.

Re: Got a new truck

are you going to wheel the 1/2 tons or swap in your other axles?

onlyifihadachevy 09-25-2009 06:20 PM

Re: Got a new truck

I have a 14 for the rear end and working on getting a 60 front, i was thinking about a 44 or 10 for the frontend until i get a 60 which would work, with my 35s form my other truck. which i mostly will run until i can get bigger tires.

70 beast 09-26-2009 11:41 AM

Re: Got a new truck

what about that 60 closed knuckle?

onlyifihadachevy 09-26-2009 02:30 PM

Re: Got a new truck

I was thinking about it still so i may use it once i find a 4.88 rear.

Re: Got a new truck

cool build

onlyifihadachevy 09-26-2009 05:23 PM

Re: Got a new truck

Well i burnt my hand on a weld accidently touching it when trying to find the degree. But, it feels a little better, i classifed it as a 2nd degree major burn, because its bistered, and bigger than 2", I do not think is a 3rd because its not dark.

I will get a pic later, and some progress pics, my dad was still working when i was soaking it so we got some done, I was telling him what i wanted him to do.

The back is almost done being braced.

70 beast 09-26-2009 09:27 PM

Re: Got a new truck

why not re gear the 14 bolt?

onlyifihadachevy 09-27-2009 12:57 AM

Re: Got a new truck

Because the cost of regearing, and that not being the gears i want. If i regear i want to get 5.13 or 5.38s, so i can have a super low crawl ratio. I am thinking grnny low, 205 low and a 5 axle would give me about 20/1

70 beast 09-27-2009 01:26 PM

Re: Got a new truck

5.38 would give you more like a 70.6:1.

4:88 would net you bout 64:1

(i cant remember what the granny first gear really is so i used bout 6.7:1 x 1.96:1x given gear.)

either ratio you do go with you have a pretty darn good crawl ratio.

onlyifihadachevy 09-27-2009 04:58 PM

Re: Got a new truck

I thought g low was like 2 to 1 but i'm not sure, but i am thinking of maybe ddoing the 4.88.

we cut the top off, my dad regrets it and i kinda do but, the cage would have being a a lot harder to build with it and rust was falling off, so i think we did the best thing, next time i build a truck i want to keep the top on.

70 beast 09-27-2009 08:28 PM

Re: Got a new truck

the sm465 granny low is something like 6.7 or lower. close to 7 almost.
