Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

thanks low dough.

i do have a small update, i finished off the inside corner of the back door, no pics though. also, after thinking about it for a long time, i decided to shave the antennae hole. i know it doesnt sound like a big deal lol. i planned to keep it as original as possible but im starting to swing around some ideas now...but well see. making the filler plate took me nearly 45 minutes because i wanted it done right.

heres the tools i used, also used some duct tape to hold the filler plate on while i tacked it.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...c/DSCN0571.jpg

heres the plate..
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...c/DSCN0570.jpg

ready to weld!
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...c/DSCN0572.jpg

all welded up..
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...c/DSCN0574.jpg

shot of the backside..
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...c/DSCN0576.jpg

then i sprayed some rust tough black enamel on it to keep it safe from rust til i primer it up. and thats it for now, waiting on some parts so i can finish up the rust replacement

Really nice how far is your crossmember off the ground when fully down how tall are your tires thanks

kev2809 12-25-2009 09:45 PM

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

hmm, ive never really measured but it wouldnt be accurate anyways. the truck is in the grass and i have 3 flat tires lol. getting some good tires is on the to do list...im tired of it looking like that. i can check in the morning to give you the tire size to see how tall they are. i need to check anyways to see where a 22" would compare to them so i can use them to figure my final stance.

kev2809 12-26-2009 05:03 PM

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

tires were 225/75/15 if that helps any...

well i thought i was gonna have a full day to work, but it started raining while i was out there, so i didnt get much done. i wanted to try to get nearly the whole floor cut out, but didnt even come close. i decided to pull the rear spare tub and rear carpet.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...c/DSCN0617.jpg

i couldnt get the floor bolts out so i had to cut around them.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...c/DSCN0616.jpg

and out...

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...c/DSCN0618.jpg

after that i decided to weld up the bullet holes, but only got one finished. i just cut out the hole, flattened it up, then put the piece back in and welded it up.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

so...obviously not as far i wanted...but oh well i guess. i have to figure out where i can cut the frame to move it up, because i have 3 body mounts on each side that i have to modify if i go that route, plus the area i would have to cut in order to keep the rear seat mount is not completely straight, it starts to angle up there. so well see what i end up doin...

kev2809 01-16-2010 08:04 PM

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

finally....i got my floor out lol. i grinded off all the heads on the bolts then punched them through. still have to cut off my tubs but you get the idea.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...1-16174505.jpg
waiting for the notch now...

i decided to go ahead and fix the rust right behind the 3rd door...got it lined up and cut out. the piece i bought wasnt wide enough...so im gonna have to make a piece to fit i guess. this piece is from a blazer so it wasnt exactly a direct replacement but i got it cut and it fit pretty good.

here it is cut out...sprayed with rust preventative then rough tough enamel.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...1-16145430.jpg

and here it is tacked in..
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...1-16174446.jpg

still have to fully weld it up, but its coming along. making the piece to fill that gap should be interesting...i really dont have anything to bend the metal to make the curve at the bottom, so well see what happens lol

About that last piece, find a large telephone pole and wrap it around till you get the right shape. I know of a guy that made a dash that way.:smoke:

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

almost got the patch welded up today. still have some more grinding and welding to do...it actually turned out to be 3 pieces lol

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...1-18173309.jpg

i do have a question though...i think all my doors pop out at the bottom. the gap is perfect up until about where the door handle is...then it start popping out and is kinda bad at the bottom corner. does anyone know why its like that and how to fix them?

VA72C10 01-18-2010 11:08 PM

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

could be a weak hinge or just a hinge adjustment/shim needed.

kev2809 01-18-2010 11:28 PM

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

hmm..ima have check on that. im getting ready to fix my rockers in the next week or so i might have to fix that soon

kev2809 01-25-2010 06:54 PM

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

well i got something done lately. i finished up the area behind the 3rd door...and also made a strip that i welded along the bottom to give it that original pinch weld look.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...1-25101051.jpg
then i moved on to the driver side to fix the area that needs a wheel arch indention. unfortunately, the blazer piece i bought did not work. the curves are not the same. i didnt figure this out until after i cut out the area on suburban lol. but no biggie, i just welded it back on, and i did use a small piece by the body line that i screwed up the first time i did this (it was first time welding ever when i did that piece)...so it wasnt a total waste of time.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...1-25101105.jpg

now im still in the hole on how to figure out how to get a body line in there lol. there is no way its gonna stay like that, it will bother me every time i look at it. so we gotta brainstorm here guys...

kev2809 01-25-2010 06:59 PM

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

today i started on the passenger side rocker. im doing it with the door on right now, and i actually got it off lol. the problem is that i need the part behind the rocker by the fender...so no repairing right now. i followed rokcrln's how to on this...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...1-25144558.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...1-25154328.jpg

my backing plate is good so its gonna stay. can someone tell me the name of this part? i want to order it today so i can finish up this rocker by the end of the week!

Although I don't know if a burb is the same as a truck, I think the part you are looking for is #7 front pillar HERE

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

that looks like it! i wonder though, it looks like half of what i have. is this piece suppose to be cut it in half and welded to the other half? mine looks like i have 4 bolt holes total...

The other half is the fender mount (#5) on the same page at least I think. There are 2- 3/8" bolts that hold it together and it is spotwelded togther.
For your reference Here More is where I changed the same parts on mine.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

well...this is what i mean. on yours, it looks like there is enough room on the side to drill the holes for the original bolts, if the new piece didnt have it. on the ones im looking at, it doesnt have any room at all. here is a driver side replacement piece..

http://www.manestruckparts.com/store...oduct_662P.jpg

doesnt look like any room on the side closest to the door for the 2 original holes.

hmm weird, i bought mine from lmc and it had enough room to drill the holes...

i just remembered there was not much meat to bite too, i did spot weld and plug weld(not picture) and i did use a bigger washer to bite..

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

well i guess its not that big of a deal, i can spot weld it in instead of using the screws...i just thought it looked weird. did you replace the back piece too on yours?

yeah i had to patch some of the floor inner kick panel, inner rocker and outer rocker. you can see the first page of the build thread for the carnage...

also i see alot of people plug welding instead of using bolts. I believe kevin even did this on his rocker replacement 101 ( i was skeered to weld that section solid, as i wanted to make sure all lined up first)
