Man you went all out, make sure to post pics ;)
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
not quite lol. I was planning to get a chrome rad. cap, master cylinder cover and rad. overflow cap. But being on a tight budget and my air cleaner not fitting I had to give up some stuff for now to get the drop base and pay the shipping cost or handling I should say from summit.
I'll try to get them later, and also looking into a trans pan, dipstick for motor and trans, and diff. cover, maybe one day an oil pan. That way alot of the show stuff is done and I may take it to some shows one day. I'm looking to try and clean up alot of the wiring for the engine sensor or hide it if I can, and maybe repaint the inner fenders and frame and stuff too. That's a big 10-4 on pics though, will do good buddy. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
Make sure you grind the flat surfaces like on your trans pan and such with a grinder because if you just throw it on it will leak, even an oil pan with silicone so ill just warn ya and if you do that it will be good ;)

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
all the new parts are in, have to get pics later. Not sure when I'll get around to it.
going thru a tough time, wife was 25 wks. pregnant, developed HELLP syndrome, lost the baby and almost lost her too. She's better just have to watch her BP. It was our first, and was a little boy, named Christian Jude Swims. He was 1 lb. 2 oz. and 12 inches long. Had the services for him the beginning of this week. |

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
got me a water neck and t-stat today. I was gonna get the straight up style but nobody had one, I think the center out 45 degree style should work, I'll see.
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web..._1599325268___ http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...artNumber=2660 I also ordered my master cylinder cover and radiator cap. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=346864_0_0_ http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=228298_0_0_ Also got my air cleaner done the other day.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3905.jpg |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
Heck ya, is the mrs doing better man?
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
yea her BP has been good, it gets high when she goes to the doctor's office, but at home it's good. They don't want to beleive she has the white coats syndrome, where you get scared or nervous when going to the dr.'s office, so they want her to see a kidney doctor, said it's the first thing they check on young women when they have high BP.
I told the dr. to his face she only has HIGH BP when she comes to the dr.'s office, at home it's fine, and I know our BP monitor is right, within a few numbers of there's. it ran 120's over 80's at home, dr. office was 150's over 90's and ours confirmed the same, as did their manual one the nurse did by ear. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
decided to get some pics of the parts I got at the house in the spare room/parts room while the batteries are charged.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3915.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3914.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3913.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3912.jpg I'll have more once it's warm again, since the air cleaner and wing nut are installed. Plus the rest of the parts should be in around the end of next week. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
Been working on things today, moved the ESC module and the MAP sensor, removed their intake bracket, cleaned up some wiring, still more to do. Paint, more chrome, maybe more wiring or relocation.
Here's pics though.... non a/c setup.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3922.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3926.jpg relocation.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3925.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3924.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3921.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3920.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3918.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3923.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3919.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3917.jpg I also removed the egr, it wasn't working or throwing codes, but if it does no big deal. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3927.jpg FYI I used an egr block off plate and bolts for older style motors, it works, the holes need to be elongated though, and it's very close to not covering the lower hole, but mine doesn't leak at all. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
looks good!!!
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
be alot better sometime in the future lol, more chrome, but most important, repaint and stuff. it may be awhile, when I do the firewall in black I'm gonna jerk both fenders and inners off, maybe the whole front end, paint it all up, reassemble, and when I do the motor I'm gonna take all the plugins off the intake, repaint it, then put on all the chrome. Not gonna do the block or heads unless I see areas that need touched up or whatever.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
got some new stuff to add, cleaned it up yesterday, added the chrome strips to cover the impact strip holes, added the pedals awhile back and the steering wheel cover.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3959.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3958.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3963.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3960.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3962.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3961.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3957.jpg |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
more pics, cleaned up more wiring and rerouted plug wires, plus pics of the other chrome I had already put on. I gotta get another set of wires or at least a couple to change out, mainly the no. 1 which is too short to tuck under.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
My condolences, hope your mrs is doing better. Now If I only had a job.. My engine bay would be as clean as this one! I need to remove all that clutter, when I get my pc fixed I'll upload some pics of mine, actually I think I might have some on car domain, projekt383 is the username, I love the way my 350 sounds with headers, running straight shot(no catalyc converters) to separate 40 series flowmasters with turn downs :)

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
LOl I aint got a job, I just used about a hundred bucks or so I accumulated from birthday anniversary and christmas gifts and such to buy my chrome stuff, the rest came free.
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
I'm exactly the same way, bday money, Christmas, so on, I'm talking about cleaning it :p I want to take it apart myself and de-clutter my engine bay, get rid of my smog pump skeleton, remove unwanted hose and connect wires i don't need. But can't here cuz there's no parking, it's at my moms house and this triple digit heat is unbearable.. Today we hit 105 I think... I need to get this ball rolling but no car to go :( it sux lol

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

I just got bored one day and started cleaning wires up underhood on mine. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
it aint hard, I can talk ya thru it when the time comes. I basically took everything off, smog pump, egr, a/c, all the wires and plugins that go with it too except for the egr solenoid wires in case I might need them. the rest I just moved back to the firewall off the intake.
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
Sweet, we'll make a tutorial with my pics lol that'll be fun.. Now I'm praying for a cloudy cool day to go punch that smog pump outta there! Lol

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
all of a sudden got a weird random rattle/knock. So I had to pull the trans and t-case to get to my flywheel with an impact nothing else was working with it slide back.
I can only hope it's the flexplate and not in the motor. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3987.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3986.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3984.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3985.jpg |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
now I have to remove stripped head flywheel bolts, yay me.
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
wow long time no post again. I got the flywheel deal fixed up and back together, running good, need new plugs, and wires, kinda left the MAp sensor unhooked and flooded the plugs, wires have straight boots anyways and I want all 90's plus one is cracked and taped up.
Anyways, got me some new rims today... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3996.jpg I find deals on 15's ALL the time plus they are cheaper anyways so I got some 15's for it. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
still looking for some tires, might be awhile, got my a roll bar for it though for $20, best 20 I ever spent.
this is what it looked like from when I bought it.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...54/rollbar.jpg found out it was chrome underneath, so I used some stripper on it.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4004.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4000.jpg I had to have the guy cut it to fit in the car, somebody had welded the seams and plugs up so he cut it at the top, and the rusted areas are the welded seams. I'm working on getting as much of the rust off as I can, then maybe grind/sand, clear coat and cover with some type of chrome. Maybe stick on body molding, or chrome stripe tape or something. Then if I get tired of it, I'll paint it all lol. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
got more parts ordered, gonna try and order more later on.
So far I got a set of polished stainless nerf bars/steps, and a bull bar, already got some roll bar lights, gonna get a matching set for the bull bar. I also hope to get a body lift, some new headlights and marker lights to match the parklights I have, and some big tires later of course. I'm gonna run some 35's on it eventually. http://www.ebay.com/itm/88-98-Chevy-...34818051672795 http://www.ebay.com/itm/88-98-CHEVY-...34076149032484 |
