Yea , I got a call the night before , apparently the computer for the chassis dyno crashed and it lost the program . They are working to get the software back . They will be down for a week or so . I tore into it this week and changed more stuff . Installed the 1 gallon fuel cell and moved the fuel pump . I am also replacing the rear cell , which is plastic , with an aluminum one . I plan on running C16 in the Nitrous cell and 93 in the main cell . A local forum im on is having a meet on the 17th so my goal is to make some shake down passes then .

I also had everything to build a 4.11 center so it is in the diff shop . I tried to set it up myself but didn't feel great about the pattern so i took it in to have it double checked . Seriously considering moving to 1350 u-joints as i currently have 1330s .

Also planning on moving the new rear cell , bottle and battary all the way back to the tailgate . Anyway here are some progress pics of last weeks work .

The 1350's is a good call.
I never broke the 1330's I had in my 4100lb truck on a T-brake.
I did swap to the 1350's once I got some real tire under it.

I like the C-16 cell being up front. Less work the pump has to do. I think it helps fight against the G's on the launch and the run down Broadway.

Good luck on your shake downs.

Thanks, im like 2700 lbs . The other truck went 6.0's @3200lbs on 275's with 1330's

I also took the -4 elbow and on the threaded side i drilled and tapped it for a Holley jet . I took the smallest brass holley carb jet i had and soldered it up then drilled a .042 hole in it . That runs through braided line back to the top of the cell . This is a return line to keep the regulator from "creeping" . I am hoping to keep the fuel pressure steady . Some say run return lines others say don't . Hope i didnt go to big on the hole i drilled .

Re: New project

If any thing it might be to small. I'm sure it will work.
I ran a race pumps fuel pump and reg. I believe it had a 71 Holley jet in it.
I personally like return lines. Keeps fuel psi steady and the temp cooler.

Yes , there is a guy here in Baytown that has a chassis shop . I went in on a big tubing order with another guy , so we got a break in the price . I want to say $5.30 a ft . X 70 Ft . It will come with the documentation from the manufacterer for the chassis cert . Which will be done at the chassis shop before i pick it up . This is so the inspector can tell the chassis guy directly if there are any problems . I did Mild in the last truck and it's cheaper to do it right the first time . Plus it adds value to the truck to have Chromemoly certed cage . Looking at a 12 point with 2 swing out bars . I will post picks as im going through the build . He has to 25.2 a Nova before me as they are trying to get to the Goergia race .

Man was getting the 400 in a pain .

Re: New project

2570 after the last pass . guessing the bars will add 100#s . Thinking i can put coilovers in place of the front shocks and lose the torsion bar crossmember and bars to get back down their . Also Having some idle curcuit problems with my speed demon so i bought a bigs stage 5 750 for it .

If you dont mind can you take a few more pics of the fuel and lines , regs up front?? I am at that point and working around a few ideas but to see a few always is a big help. I have that Comp dual cheater kit I am getting into place. On the fuel cell are you running a say -8 TEE with a ball valve to swap from one tank to the other?

This is a stand alone for the nitrous it is -8 to the fuel pump then the reg is fit straight to the pump . -6 out of the pump to the solinoid . the bypass is a -4 90 that i drilled and tapped for a holley jet . I soldered up the holley jet and used a small index bit to drill just enough so the pump doent dead head and creep . the -4 goes back to the top of the 1 gallon in front .

Looks good

I noticed your CalTracs front brackets are on the ourside of the front spring hanger. Was there not enough room between the spring and the hanger? Do those new rear fenders have a larger opening? I see the flare, but they look like they have a bigger opening.

The Cal tracs are on the outside of the hanger . These trucks have a bolt in front pivot like a Nissan . You have to weld a piece of 1/4 " plate in to fill the hole . The front hanger is set up for 3 " springs and the truck has 2 7/8 " . It is easier to put them outside . They build a 3" split mono for these trucks , but it really requires new front spring perch be welded in .

The rear fenders are wider and will give me 1 1/2" more tier room . I think they were originally off a courier ( so i was told ) , but could have been off a full sized truck . They are glass and lighter than the gray ones .

Re: New project

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...306_184222.jpg

Here is a update . Still no chromemoly , but scheduled again tommorow .

I have 16ga. panels being made for the holes or gaps that will have flats to bolt to the fenders and 90's to bolt to the bed floor and a 90 turned in at the back of the cab for looks and strength . They will be painted to match yellow . Have not figured out what to do under the tail lights other than steel brake line for braces to keep everything firm . Still need a fiberglass or small rear bumper to cover the frame rails in the back . The cowl is and Ebay $75 38 inch scoop that was trimmed and added with the 2 part panel bonding adhesive/Epoxy . I was told that if you leave the proper amount of epoxy instead of forcing the scoop to touch the metal hood the all three materials could expand and contract without the seams cracking due to temperature change . Im happy with the job .

Got the new driveshaft being built and will pick it up monday . This one is 3.5 inch with 1350 spicer u-joints . Driveshaft loop is in , as is removeable crossmember . The cross member became manditory with the th400 . I also bought a pair of ET streets . These are the 28 x 10.5 x 15 . Basically the old 28 x 9 slick with some grooves cut in to it . I was having a bit of trouble with the drag radial as it was kinda hit and miss . Truck went 1.40 on 29 x 9 Hoosiers so i ought to be able to make it work on a 28 x 9 with Caltracs and Ranchos . I also took 4 drgrees of nose down out of the pinion angle . I am at 3.5 negative . Which sould move to around 1.5 to 2 when i drop the button . I will start with a radial and if need be move to the bias ply as a last resort . I also swapped the rear end gear from 5.00 to 4.11 . this along with the swap from 2.52 ( th350 ) to 2.48 (th400) first gear will take mechanical advantage away help the tire . Removing gear and an adjustible instant center with Caltracs should allow me to dial it in . Probably end up letting go and pulling second to bring it back down . First race of the season is the 17th so we will see . Working hard to get it inspected tuesday . Maybe the rain will stop by then . I also bought/built a fuel flow gauge so i can "creep up" on my tune up . Bracket race rained out this weekend and i needed the test time .

Re: New project

Ended up testing tonight to try and work out some bugs . Fisrt pass with the 2 step set at 3200 and low bottle pressure . It rolled up on the back tires then tore the threads off the u bolts . I had to much in the driverside bar so it tried to move left . thinking im 2 or 3 clicks soft on the rears . It bit hard enough on a drag radial to tear up hardware so i guess im headedin the right direction . Someone said it had 3 in the air and they had a picture . Here are a few random pics .

Was that Mustang Billy you lined up against? Sure looks like his car but I dont remember him having stickers on the back glass. Anyway looks like you were moving right along once you hooked up. BTW the right lane at HMP is terrible from my exprience.

hotrod 80 03-19-2012 10:29 AM

Re: New project

The right lane was hit and miss . Promod guys were trying to take power out , then add a drag radial and the weight challenges of a truck , well . Yes right lane wasn't my friend . Billy and i in the final . Good guy . We were side by side in one qualifying run .

Re: New project

The ladder shook out me and a SN95 turbo car in the semis . We took the bottle and heated it up pretty good as i was a touch rich on the nitrous fuel pressure . It looked like we had the turbo deal covered on motor so we were experimenting to see if we could trim some Et . The turbo car didnt make the call and nither did the second set , so instead of a competition by rounds for me and the other guy they put us in the finals right there . I ended up spinning and he ran slower also . Had a good time anyway .

Re: New project

Well , i dropped it off today . I had paid for the tubing already and was in line after Lamar's Nova to have a bar done . My wife convinced me it need to be done for safety reasons . 12 point Chromemoly cage custom bent and tig welded . Certified to 8.50 with swing out and removable door bars . This will add 77# to the truck . It will be installed so later if i decide it can be removed and the truck cab will not be cut up . The bars will also have motor plate tabs hidden behind the fenderwells . Room for coilovers if i decide to remove the torsion bar stuff , yet retain the stock suspension and get m 77#'s back .

Thanks i am going by daily to check it out as i want it to be nice . Here is todays pic , not much just the glass out and destroyed . Found the gasket and glass for $240 installed so they are ordered . Plan on cleaning up the windsheild lip and having the guy who painted the hood and rear fenders paint this so the glass / lexan rear doesnt have to be removed when it gets fresh paint this winter .
