Re: What is this Truck?

the street views don't have the same pictures(in your case its most likely because that looks like a private street) because the aerial view is taken with a satellite and the street view is done with a vehicle with a camera mounted to the roof,i seen one driving down my street one day and had a rotating camera mounted on top the roof and had Google logo on the door was weird seeing it:lol:,also at my house the satellite picture has my old Bonneville car and the street view has my car that was sold a year or so before i had the Bonneville so the pictures are not always taken at the same time frame.

this light blue colored truck is a 60-66 long bed fleetside truck i know for a fact but in this picture it looks more a 60s ford to me...so you might be on to something:

Re: What is this Truck?

Have you tried rotating North on the close view (just before street view) on google maps. You should be able to rotate around and see the truck from all four angles. Might give you a better idea.

The first shot almost looks like it could be a F*rd judging by the side rails of the bed. It looks like the two sides are reflecting differently. The F*rd, and maybe D*dge too, had the slanted bed rails and since the picture is from an angle the closer rail would appear to be thinner than the far rail. It's complete BS, but it's BS that could be true.:smoke:

i rotated my picture and put it next too your picture i think they look similar....have you tried rotating the "north" icon like stated above to see a different angle?

What a great suggestion!
That did it.
I'm convinced it's a 64-66 Chevy Short Stepside!

Re: What is this Truck?

I'm going to put a letter together tonight, like Mark suggested, and send it out tomorrow morning. I'm pretty excited.

They look like they've done a nice restore, so they probably won't be selling anytime soon.
I don't really care. I just want to see it, and see what they've done with it.

Re: What is this Truck?

Ya im pretty convinced its a 60-66 truck also! Im pretty stoked also that you may have found your lost truck...please keep us informed how the letter goes.

Thanks for the support, losthope.
I'll keep you guys posted.

btw...
I was born and raised in Woodland.
Moved up to Oregon in 84/85 when I was about 20.

Re: What is this Truck?

So remind me, was your truck stolen? You said lost but I just want to know if that means theft or your x-wife sold it to spite you. The reason I ask is maybe the guy whos driveway it's in is the guy who took it and contacting him might show your hand. What are you hoping to accomplish by talking with the new owner?

Re: What is this Truck?

<<Edit.. This thread named "What is This Truck" has been merged with the "Lost My 65" thread. >>

I sold it back in 87 when I was 22 to some girl who worked at Napa.

Originally, I hoped to find it to see if whoever owned it might sell it back to me.

Now it looks as if they have done a nice restore. So now I'd just like to see it.
I'm also thinking they might be interested in some of the history of the truck and copies of the pictures I have of it when I built it.

See the link in my signature for the full story and pics.

Re: What is this Truck?

can't wait to hear what you find out...if that's truly it, i'm sure they'd appreciate some history about it, including old pics....and just maybe you'll put in a good word & get it back someday...i know my dad sold a '64 that i grew up with & was promised to be mine, & i often wish i had it today...to my knowledge the same guy still has it and is still living in the area...when my finances allow, it would be awesome to be able to re-purchase it (if he'd sell)...there's just something about those trucks with sentimental value....good luck & keep us informed!

Re: Lost My 65

I lost my 67 RA GTO many years ago and when I found it the guy had done a A+ restoration on it and wanted $40,000 for it.:jdp:
There is no way in heck I can afford it... worth it or not.. it is a forever memory now.
I hope that isn't the case for you dude.:uhmk:

I have a letter all written up, I just need to print off a picture of the truck I have when I still owned it, to include with the letter.
Finding time has been tough this week.

I feel your pain.
My first classic was a '66 Tempest Custom, no post coupe.
100% original with only 73k on the odometer. Still had the original bumper jack, hub caps and 230ci Overhead Cam 6.

Parked it in a storage lot in Colorado Springs when I got my orders to go to Korea.
Someone rented the space next to my car, came in and pulled it out, then closed their account. I didnt even know it had happened until 1.5 months after the fact when the storage lot stopped billing me. We called to find out why and they said "Because you pulled your car out..."

I still call and update my police report every time I move, just in case it is ever recovered the Police can find me.

That was winter of 2001.

This was a photo shoot I did with it a year before it was stolen.
You know you have to get up before dawn and get to the lake in the dark and wait in order for the water to be this still??
LOL
I didnt know that until I was researching on how to make this pic.

That way the residents can consider the information without feeling assaulted by some stranger appearing at the door.

Finally got it sent off yesterday.
We'll see what happens.

That Truck in question is surely my old 65.
The owner sent me a reply thru email along with some pics.
Here is a pic he took of it back in 2004:

Re: What is this Truck?

It looks as if the Buddy Buckets aren't in it any more - what you see on the drivers side is just a seat pad. :(
Also, by the pic taken last year, it looks as if it has been really let go.
He did say he swapped out the wheels to what it has now.
I'm tentatively going to go see it Wednesday afternoon.
Honestly, I'm not too concerned about getting it back anymore.
My 66 is my new love. :)

Re: What is this Truck?

Looks like he is letting it rust into the ground.
It also looks like a chevy with a GMC grill...
PM me if he wants to sell it and you arent interested.
Letting it go like that is a shame, I'll give it a good home if you don't want it.

Yeah but isn't that the point? It shouldn't be in salvageable condition. It should have been taken care of... The present owner should be hanging his head low... The condition of that truck is shameful..:(

Re: What is this Truck?

That's still pretty clean by east coast standards. Don't let a little surface rust discourage you. That truck out here would go for good $ as it is.

At least now you have an answer, and no longer have to wonder if you'll ever find it. And good eye, picking it out on a satellite photo.

Yeah but that's not my point is it?
The photo from 4 years ago and the photo from a year ago show total neglect.
I am from Michigan and I take parts for cars and trucks back there so I now the trucks value.
My point is blatant irresponsible neglect. That truck shouldn't go from pretty nice to a surface rusted heap. That's going backward. People that let that happen shouldn't own classic vehicles.
Thats my point...
And I am dead serious, I'll buy it if it's for sale.

^^^I agree with you 150%.^^^ But life does happen, and it's hard to fault someone without knowing the whole story.

I was merely stating to the OP (who has gone through all this trouble to find his old truck) to not be so discouraged by the present condition of it, which isn't bad at all.

Sorry if you took it the wrong way....

Re: What is this Truck?

It's pretty cool that you found it. Don't let the condition scare you away after all the effort you have put into finding her. Hopefully the current owner will be reasonable with his pricing and not jack the price up because he knows you want it.
Here is your chance to become your very own "Chevy runs deep" commercial :)
Good luck

Re: What is this Truck?

No of us know what problems that the the PO has had. Could be medical or serious financial problems. I think that its a little harsh to bash the PO for letting the condition deteriorate. Its his truck and maybe thats what he wanted. Plenty of us have trucks in less than perfect condition. I know that I have had to put off plenty of projects due to medical or financial obligations. These trucks do not mean the same to all owners.

Re: What is this Truck?

Thats Rad you found it!!! As far as the condition it just looks like the primer(if thats primer) absorbed some water and is surface rusting under the primer shouldnt be to much work to remedy.....As far as the new owner i wouldnt be to hard on him and the condition of the truck untill you knew the whole story, he could be a frail old man with a cane that doesnt have the mobile skills anymore to work on the truck , but loves it and keeping it.....id rather see it like that then in a field rotting away,or some dipstick doing a hack job on it:lol:
