Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Sounds good Jud. That third pulley is for the A/C. That is the one that is very close to that crossmember.
I took that cowl piece off to clean all of the leaves out and get those drains open. It was loaded with leaves and trash. |

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
That sounds good Bob.
I think I have found what the problem is. Someone has put shims under all rear mounts for some reason. That caused the A/C pulley to rub that front crossmember. Then someone welded those tabs on the drivers side motor mount to raise the front of the engine. I am going to start over by finding the right mount and taking out all of those shims and see what happens. I drove the truck today, and I cannot get the front drive shaft to stop turning. I have the truck in 2wd and the hubs unlocked but it still turns. It is not the front axle because I jacked up the truck and they are unlocked. The problem is with the transfercase. Any ideas? |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Very nice truck, cant wait to see the restoration!

Re: 67 gmc 4x4

Here are some motor mount pictures. My truck is completely apart, but going back together now. So, everything is exposed and available for photos.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thanks Erl, love your truck by the way! Are the rubber mounts original? Could you get a closeup photo of them and measure the thickness?
Also, your PS pump bracket is welded like mine, is that one that you had custom made? I assume the original PS brackets were not welded. I don't think the ram assist on my truck is factory since the bracket was welded. |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thanks for posting those pics. Yes Erl your work looks great. Everything looks original on your truck. I see now I must find some of those mounts. I would also like to find some original radiator hoses. Mine has those hoses you can use for different applications.

Jud, thanks for requesting the pics. They have answered some of our questions.
If you dont want that power steering I'll buy it. Lol Posted via Mobile Device |

Clint, there are some additional photos here in post 26. You may want to prevent him from scrapping them: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=437680&page=2

I think I know what the problem is on the 4X4. The original V-6 motor mount used on all trucks with manual transmissions is part #2391949, and it has not been availble for some time. It looks to me like someone substituted a different mount. Here is side and bottome views of my left mount:

I agree the engine is setting too high in the 4X4. Look at the A/C vacuum can on my truck, and see how close it is to the valve cover. It looks like the P.O. had to remove it for clearance. BTW- that bracket that goes around the upper radiator hose is for an AIR (smog) pump. V-6's in 1500's with manual transmissions sometimes came with them.
|
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
All '67-'69 GMC V-6's in pickups came with a 2 groove pulley on the crank hub (these engines do not use a harmonic balancer). The first groove closest to the engine is for the alternator and water pump, the second groove is for the power steering pump and water pump, if equipped. There is a second single groove pulley bolted on the front for the A/C compressor. This pulley is smaller in diameter than the 2 groove pulley. Back to the motor mounts, I have been told there is a particular transmission mount that will work as a replacement. I don't have a part number for it, but you might try asking on the '60-'66 GMC V-6 website forum. I believe that is where I heard about it. Hope this helps you guys out. Bob.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thanks Bob for those pics and info. Your truck looks like it is very nice. It is a great color also. I can see exactly what I need to do.
I knew my truck had a smog pump because the manifolds are drilled for the air tubes. I can see where the vacuum canister was mounted on the side of the air box. I will do some searching to see if I can find the right mount to substitute. Clint Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
The 'tin can' style vacuum canister has a little stamped steel bracket on it. The replacement is a plastic ball shaped canister that has the bracket molded on it. The plastic canister is still available.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thanks Bob. I think the canister on my truck still has the tabs on it. I can check when it gets warmer.
We got about 5 inches of snow yesterday. Here are a few pics of the 67 and since we are now in the 4x4 forum, Ill post some pics of my other 4x4's in the snow. Here is the GMC parked in front of the house: http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...2-10090702.jpg When it was snowing. Here is the 58 and the 73: http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...eepman/145.jpg Here is my 72 http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...pman/151-1.jpg |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Nice! I'll take that 58 off your hands. :)

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thanks. Man I searched for a while before I found a napco truck. Not very common around here.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
I'm not really sure about the lwb trucks but I see that lmc does offer 4 leaf rear springs for the half ton 67-68 and a 5 leaf for the 3/4 ton. I havent ever owned one. Well not yet anyways.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
beautiful trucks! all your 67 needs is trim and hub caps!
|
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Clint, looks like your perches are good and the plate on the engine too. i think you just need the rubber mount like I do. I am also looking for the alternative part.
Bob, nice photos |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thanks guys. Rick the 67 needs the right door and paint first. LOL
Jud if you find something let me know. I started looking more at the paint on my truck. I can see white below the trim also. The truck was white on top, blue in the middle, and white on bottom. I think it would look good back in those colors. |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
I got my rear view bracket today. Thank you Bill.
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...pman/008-2.jpg I also took a pic of the white paint that I found. I thought that the white was on top of the blue, but it is not. The white was there first and the blue was sprayed sometime later during a repaint. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...pman/007-1.jpg |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
hmmmm i was told that you could not have white below the trim on a 67 but a 68 you could a 2 tone in 67 looks like this http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3355/...c5ae967ae3.jpg the white doesnt go down on the pillars on the left and right on the window or on the doors just to let you know...at least that is what i believe..... oh well the truck looks great just a little work and the original door should be good to go!
|
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Yeah Rick the white is above the drip rail only. Im still not sure on the white below the trim. I will do some more close looking at the truck later.

Here is some info on the power steering setup, it is 67 only. Bob was right about the Cal smog pump. You can send your motor mounts into Steel Rubber to have them refurbished. I also included a picture of the rear springs. That is how mine looked when I bought it. Only 2 springs.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thanks for the pics Erl. That ps diagram is what Jud has on his 67. I would love to find that setup for mine. That v6 is heavy.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
so what have you been doin to the 67 lately???
|
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Rick I have not had time to do much. I greased all of the front steering components. Mostly I have been driving it everyday between my house and my shop. It is only about a mile and a half, but the truck is made to drive. That is the fun part.
When I get more time I am going to get the engine mounts all fixed. Then I am going to switch that bent bedside and do something with the green door. |

67 SWB Nevada truck air cab, bought from a board member. Original v-6 4 speed. I have made it a 400 sb turbo 400/205. Other than the motor change I'm keeping it stock suspension. Needed a small repair to the frame, a front axle was bent, rockers on cab were crushed so they were replaced. Shaved the original trim. Every bit of this truck was media blasted then hand sanded again before being epoxy coated and then painted. Tons of blocking on the panels to make them perfect. Have yet deciced on a color, leaning towards a green I seen on Tim Christensens 67 GMC. Will put vintage air in instead of stock air. Here is a picture of it as I bought it. Happy to share Thankyou for making me feel welcome. John

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
John,
Nice truck. did you get a build sheet or SPID with your truck? I've got a similar 67 but lwb. Is your truck a custom or CST? I'm looking for another example of Custom script badging on a 67. Jud |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
John, do you have a build thread?
