I had one wheel locking up when i would step on the brakes so i tried driving in reverse for quite a while to get the brakes to self adjust but had no luck?? one wheel kept locking up and skidding when i hit the brakes so i jacked to truck up and tore into the drum brakes.....the previous owner said he got the truck out of a field and the old man he got it from used it as his farm truck, from little signs here and there i believed him, but when i opened the drums up it was confirmed with all the dirt and straw/hay caked in side them, there was no way the self adjusters would ever work:lol: and the two front wheel cylinders leaking brake fluid was the culprit of the wheel locking up....So i scrubbed and cleaned everything and replaced the worn out shoes and some of the springs on all four wheel's and the two front wheel cylinders....wanted to replace everything from drums to brake hose's but money didnt allow for that at the moment just did enough to get it driving:

7/16-20 stock size lugnuts..........

You a pipe smoker too? I have several but i hav a favorite briar rouge finish that I use most. What leaves do you smoke. I like tinder box Vanilla Black Cavendish. Smell good enough for othe wife to not complain when I'm in the shop.

Thanks progress has slowed of lately on the truck,since ive been working on my car and lack of funds due to hoildays and birthdays but should be at it again real soon,Im amazed i made it through that wreck also makes me kinda sick in the stomach when i see the pictures but it was a life changing experience,I actually walk pretty good now except alot of pain and most likely need the surgery the doctor has been putting off,I cant complain im alive and walking...hope to see you posting more hows your truck anything new?

I havent smoked since my accident since the doctor said i cant smoke anything because the foot surgery is high risk to loosing my foot if i smoke, but I mainly smoke my pipe only at my pops house and usually smoke what he has which mainly from the "tinder box" store that went out of buisness here and he bought a mass quantity of different tobaccos before they did same vanilla you do,cherry almond, anniversary blend, amaretto,and some others..i have a couple pipes the one in the truck pictures is just a cheap one, i have a real expensive one (cant think of the name of hand) that i mainly smoke fro that i bought for $5 from a antique store somkes real nice...I also like to smoke cigar's , acid's, lars tetens, and theres a old cuban guy that owns a little shop where he hand rolls his own ,has a picture as a 13 year old kid in cuba rolling them with a cigar in his mouth, must be 80 by now and still rolls them, he even has a indentation in his lip where he holds his cigars in his mouth:lol:.........talking about smoking i almost cant wait for surgery just so i can smoke!:smoke:

you can get them at so-cal speed shop or on ebay just type in "dash pipe holder"..

been working on my 54 ford and not much is has been going on with the truck besides going to turlock swap meet and picking up a gauge cluster with the o.g tach and air gauge in it and two 64-66 grills:

I also picked up a rebuilt 9inch tail shaft turbo 350 and converter with a shift kit and 6 month warranty for $500.... since this truck is going to be my daily driver and the used $75 craigslist trans i installed was just to get the truck drivable up and down the driveway and is starting to make some funky noises, so i decided i needed something more reliable! I need to get another grill and cut and splice and weld them together this was just to get a idea of what it will look like,it'll take alot of body work with this bent up grill and how these grills angle in the middle to get two grills straight across the rear of the truck......i still dont know how i really feel about it??? , I wanted to run my exhaust tips at the ends and have door/drawer knobs in the middle like the front grill ( no bullets )...what do you guys think? I wanted something diffrent then a regular rear roll pan..

I just got done reading this thread and first let me offer my condolences. I understand and am sorry for your loss. I also understand working on the truck to keep your mind off of life's "stuff". Glad you're doing better after the wreck. You're doin an awesome job on this truck, just keepin at it. It's a real motivator for me.

Tell you the truth getting another truck so fast to work on and all of you guys in this site has been my motivation to get past all the crap ive delt with this last year, I think i would have had more of a negative attitude about everything if i didnt have something to take my mind off of everything and dedicate my time too...

Well the latest update besides mocking up a rear grill that most of you probably saw on my poll i posted is that i bought a Rebuilt th350 and today i got the old one out and the rebuilt one in....Every car battery i own seems to be dead so i didnt fire the truck up yet and take it for a spin < I put a battery on the charger and will see how everything goes tomorrow heres some pic's:

So while I had the truck in the air after the trans swap I decided to pull out the box of ball joints and a-arm bushings the previous owner gave me with the truck he had started the power steering conversion and and replaced the joints on the tie-rod ends but didnt finish and never got to the rest....

Well my notch and trac bar showed up from CPP, And i got started on working on the rear of the truck:

After quite awhile of cutting,drilling,and pounding rivets out i got the c-notch bolted in:

Then painted them with some black paint just to keep them from surface rusting:

Got dark out side before i could get the trac bar on and still need to relocate the shocks when they show up in the mail, This was done to give me more travel with the truck lowered with the rear camero sway bar bolted to top of the rearend so the stance isnt going to change....until i purchase the basic bags setup for the front and rear! Will post pics when its back together with the relocated shocks and trac bar....

lookin good man, my opinion on the rear is just use the part of the grill that says chevy even tho i know it kinda space filler, i'd just use that small part. just me but i think i'd look cool with just that.

trucks looking good, you very lucky to be alive after your wreck!! i got the same rear sway bar on my truck but mine is bolted to the trailer arms!! how good can you see out the side mirrors with the vent shades??

I was just thinking of mounting it to the trailing arms also,because im planning on bagging the truck and it is in the way on top of the axle, and i noticed cpp aftermarket rear swaybar bolts to the trailing arms and was thinking of trying it do you have any pictures of the way yours is mounted?

its a lil tricky drilling the holes in the trailer arms cause the angle of the trailer arms and the sway bar is striaght! i did find that theres already a hole on each side of the frame rail so i mounted the bracket to it then only had to drill 6 holes instead of 8! and you don't need to have any spacers between the bracket and the frame! i'm going to be putting a schrader valve bag kit on the back of mine atleast for now!

I had that setup on my old 65, it was cool at first but after awhile more of a PITA and wish it had springs.....this time i have some cash and some parts i collected and am going to put a manual air switch setup in ,which i can do pretty cheap....

Update: not much done on the truck today i put up a shed a couple weeks ago and moved my crap out of my storage unit to the shed...found the box with the air ride parts and started building my tank setup:

Well today i mounted my air tank , i was going to just run it in the bed but changed my mind so i tore the tank apart again and mounted it under the bed in the forward fender on the drivers side:

I read a post on manual paddle switch valves on another car forum and most paddle switch valves are made for 1/4" tubing and a guy installed 1/2" supply lines and stepped it down right at the switchs and said that it makes a difference in the speed of you bags compared to running all 1/4" tubing...I was in luck i had traded a 700r4 that needed a rebuild for some 1/2 tubing and check valves and fittings a couple years ago ....

so i ran two 1/2" lines to the cab 1 line for front switchs and 1 line for rear switchs, I had some big rubber fuel line I picked up some time ago for something i cant remember for what now...slide it over the tubing where ever i secured it to the truck or where ever i thought it might rub on metal:

I needed to mount the pump somewhere so i had some metal angle brackets for a old shelving unit and a aluminum sign i found when tearing down a building(I work for a Demolition company) ...

the angles fit perfect on the frame so i cut a section of sign and bolted it together to make a pump stand :

sprayed it with some black paint and mounted the pump used a old rubber type mouse pad and cut it to make rubber pads for where the tank mounts to bed sills and where pump mounts to the stand to cut down on vibration and noise :

wired it up and tested the pump it still works after sitting in storage for a year!! So used stuff i already had and todays project didnt cost me anything!!

Your driveway inginuity is truely inspiring man!
Because I read your build, I remembered to snag the front sway bar off my donor rig, along with the drop down brackets to accomodate the power steering gearbox!

well im waiting on a set of bags,fittings,and manual paddle switch valves to come in the mail, but i did pick up a brand new set of bags for $50 from a friend and I also picked up a set of front and rear bag brackets (rear brackets are just plates not pictured)for $120 locally.
so i went to the NAPA warehouse were they have big truck brake parts,and picked up 50 feet of 1/4 air line, and most of my fittings and got the rear bags started:

im relocating the rear camero sway bar and also the rear shocks......I choose to do what "frizzle fry" did with his rear shocks swapping and drilling holes so they mount behind the rear axle now:

Bags= $150
switch/valves=$80
air line and fittings=$100
front and rear bag brackets=$120
random fittings of ebay=$20
grade #8 bolts= $20
tank and compresser= already had!

In my case it is moving them away from the bags so there is no chance they will rub on them and also when lowering these trucks the stock location makes the shocks at a extreme angle where they dont work so need to relocate them when lowering

I agree with losthope but I didn't have to get mine out of the way of bags. By locating them further out, it is supposed to make handling better, also. I can't vouch for that yet but Frizzle claimed it made a big difference on his truck.
