Progress! I like the white bumper for the patina!

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
looking better and better, i like the white patina parts vs the chrome ones imo they suite the truck better than the chrome, but its your truck :)

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
White patina'd parts for sure and make sure to do the inner grill hoops same. My apologies to the wife but this may help for reference..
http://www.airsociety.net/wp-content...ustoms-012.jpg also here is the other odd custom touch rear window covering I was speaking of with push buttons all around the window frame http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1347250852 |
Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Nice progress ! and even though theirs something to be said about keeping the wife happy, I'm with the majority on the white bumpers.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
My vote is for white too...but I'm partial. :)

Thanks everyone. White it is! I'm going to keep an eye out for a 67-70 bumper with better patina than the one on it now...
My wife said she didn't like the color white or the way I painted over the scratches which I agre with her on that so when I find a better patina'd front I'll swap out... Found a mirror box id bought off the forum a while back....one of the mirror arms happens to match the truck almost perfectly....just need to find a mirror head that's got a patina'd white back... Truck came with this mirror style obviously and thankfully the screws are still in the door even! Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |

Very cool rig. I have some Chevy "COPO" poverty caps I would be willing to let go of if you were interested. They have some dings but that adds to the look.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
What if you blasted the bumpers and trim and painted them satin white?

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
I like where your going with this build you could say "keepin it real"
question though is the bumper on the back of the truck a factory bumper? I'm on the hunt for a rear bumper for my stepper and dont wanna use a sport bumper. I would love too have one of them big ole rear step bumpers but there tough to find any good. I must say thats the first one I seen like that. |
Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Nice thread, nice truck and I like it with the original bumpers.... looks good.

If I find a factory sport bumper in white with patina and a hidden hitch for a good deal this bumper will be up for sale...I'll keep you in mind first if you're interested... Quote:

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Good find on that rear painted sport bumper. I've been looking local for 2 months for a nice patina white bumper, no luck here in the Nashville area. Hell I can't even find a chrome, sport, or a step bumper for a stepside. I think I'm going to just order a new raw bumper from Top Banana and just patina it myself and forget all the chasing parts. I've spent more in fuel than what the damn bumper cost new.

Gotta have a bigger shop...my whole downstairs is a parts/restoration shop now. Here are the plates that will go on....had to clean them up a bit so they are both easily readable or they wouldn't let me run them... Posted via Mobile Device |

Here are the pics of the caps. They have usual dents around the rims and one has a decent dent on the center ridge. I have 5 and will ask $115 plus shipping.

Some parts painted....decided to use my original 70 engine and sell the other 350 I've been working on....the 70's engine is a 355 with rebuilt heads, edelbrock performer intake, and under 6k miles....plus I have the tranny and matching torque converter which all work well together.
Plus, I spent a lot of time grinding the casting flash off the block so it will paint up better...with a wuick wipe down it's ready for paint....still going to paint the other one so I can sell that one... Here are a few parts I painted for it...my 7yr old helped on the fan/clutch :) I picked up the air cleaner as a blem on ebay for $10 shipped...had to sand it down to get the scratches out of it...has a k&n "style" washable element. I think it looks good in black and will look good with black pulleys... Note the fan used to be "chrome" and orange....I like this better :) Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Not much progress...stripping the second engine so I can paint it and get it sold...also ordered a water pump and bolts for the engine that will be going in. Other than that I've been bust with parts and appts which is a good/bad proposition ;)

Got the swp in I ordered off ebay...it was a chrome blem so it didn't look that great....but I always planned to paint it and being chromed it was mostly smooth (why I bought it)...got it scuffed up, wiped down, primered (engine primer), three coats chevy orange and three high temp clear. Still working on stripping the engine to paint and sell....what a pain....hope I see more cash for this when I sell it because of this....again...hours of wasted time if not...but it would have looked bad and come right off if I painted over the po's poor paint job... Also got in a complete bolt kit for the engine from summit. I could have pieced together a kit a little cheaper possibly but this was cheap enough to make it worth the time savings I will see.
