I found injectors tps iac and pulley relocation kit to put car in take on a truck motor. And a maf. Looks like all I need is air filter and pipes. And fuel and exhaust. I have 5 different boxes coming to me. I should lay off the ordering stuff for a while.

Did you buy the injector clips as well?

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

No. If you are talking about the clips that hold the injector to the rail. The intake is coming with billet fuel rails. I am pretty sure i dont need them. I do infact need the clips that hold the injector electical connector on to the injector. 4 of mine are missing.

I found these on line. Does any one have any idea if they will work?

Got intake and fuel rails today. Looks really clean. I also love the color on the fuel rails. It is like a gun metal color.

I meant the EV6 electrical connectors, since the old truck setup would have used the MultecII clips (unless you had the harness setup for car/ev6 injectors in the first place.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

The harness I am using i was told is made to work with ls1 intake. When he told me that I figured that ment they kept the truck injector plugs. Boy was I wronge. It has ev1 injector connectors with the fancy metal wire retainers that 4 are missing and I can't find anyware.

Is this the connector you are looking for:

I get injector connectors at the local boneyard. Pretty much any GM EFI car from the 90s/2000s have them.

BR3W CITY 04-03-2013 02:53 PM

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

like he said the late 90's early 2000's stuff should have it, and you can check the F*rds there as well; the connector is not proprietary to the brand.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

They are like the ones in the top link but i really dont want to pay that much to just take the metal spring clip thing out.

I got my dirtydingo idler relocation kit today. I trimmed the bracket way down and bolted it on. Works prety nice. But my throttle body still hits the water pump hose connection. I have heard new truck water pumps will work with ls1 intake. I looked at wifes water pump on her 08 and it LOOKS like it will work. My suburban needs a water pump anyways so I am gonna get one for hers and put the old style on my burb and the new one on this truck. I would not want to do the grinding i did with out air tools. It took a while with them could not imagine doing it without them.

Slow day at work today so i stayed home. Busted out the wire wheel and went to town. The motor looks 100% better. Now the ls1 intake will actually look good on it.

I will when i pull the motor to paint it. This swap will be much cleaner then my suburbans swap. I hope it runs better too. I should have all the vss crap worked out by then.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

Yes. Cause i was not really sure where to put the turbo stuff. Yall like the crazy scrathes in the fire wall. I bet the chain broke or something when the po put the motor in. Cause the ac box was also crushed in.

The only thing i dont know what to do with is the exhaust. I really dont want to spend 600 bucks on doug thorlys again to put a trubo on it later possibly.

Plus the coating at 250 or so. I found some shortys for camaros that are 199 and they are stainless I am trying to make up my mind about.

I wouldn't worry with coating them. But that's just me. Would offer better performance than shorties, too.

There is no way I am putting painted headers on. One trip around the block and they will be bare. And I may be putting a turbo on it still. Not looking to spend lots of money on something I am just gonna take off.

my LY6 manifolds are just sitting in the storage building. a bit heavy to ship tho. I'd take a lil' trip in the old truck for fun if I had the vibration fixed (for which I have a plan)..... if you weren't so dang far.

to give you an idea of how they fit:

I ordered some more parts to night. Ordered a throttle cable and bracket and bolts. Also ordered a throttle bracket to my suburban. Nally buick online parts is a amazing web site. Great drawings of the parts and good break downs. Also got a seat belt bracket for the wifes new gmc.

I was looking at the vette fuel filters and i was thinking about the way i need to run the fuel lines. One from tank to pump to filter. one from filter to tank. The one from filter to rails and a tee on the passenger side rail that a short hose goes to driver side rail. Will that work?

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

I don't think you need to loop the system like that, just in the pass side fuel rail, out to drivers side rail, and a plug the end....not "tee'd" back in.

85burb 04-08-2013 11:29 PM

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

I was thinking the same but I already have the fittings and hose. It should look cool with the extra crossover in the rear.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

If you're going with a turbo setup, I'd strongly consider putting together a return style system with a regulator up near/on the fuel rails. Much better setup for a turbo with the boost referenced regulator.

85burb 04-09-2013 10:13 AM

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

Yes if I do put a turbo on it will for sure get a return system. But I can't find a decent priced fuel pressure regulator. The lowest I found was over 100 bucks. If I can find one around 50 that is what I will use now instead of the vette fitter.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

The stock truck setup works great. It's not as pretty since you need to use the truck intake instead of the LS1, but it's VERY cheap, and good for around 500-550 rwhp.

So what pressure does the regulator need to be for. Will a 30-65 psi work? Many them things are expensive.

Wasted Income 04-10-2013 10:30 AM

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

Your fuel pressure should rise at a 1:1 ratio with boost.

Example: If your base fuel pressure is 58 psi, at 1 psi of boost, it should be 59 psi and at 10 psi boost, it should be 68 psi.

Doing it this way makes it easier to tune, since your injector flow should remain constant.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

Ok i will order that fuel pressre reg that i seen cause it will have no boost for a while.

On a side note i got in the cold air intake kit today. Looks like a nice kit.

Test fitted the intake today. Also installed the egr plug. Not sure on where the intake pipe will end up after the water pump and hose is installed but this is where i want it to be so far. Need to order the rubber clamp that the maf goes in to mount the air filter. Got the part number already just have to call the local gm dealer.

I got the gen 4 water pump in the mail this weekend. Test fitted it and it is like it was made for the swap. Fits like a glove. Also figured out what i am going to do with the intake pipes. I put the belt on just to make sure the intake pipe will fit around everything. All i need now to test run is the fuel system.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

I had a slow day at work so i figured i would see if i could drop the factory tank. I am not going to use it anyways. I am going to put a cell in the rear frame area. The factory tank had way too much crap in it for me to use. I jacked the truck up to get under it and proceded to remove the pos plastic skid plate that goes over the tank. I may have found why the truck leans to the driver side. I pulled the shield down and a bout 30 pounds of crap fell on to the floor. And the bottom of the tank is rusted out i am sure. I am fully confidant i can put a screw driver smooth threw the bottom of it. It smelled like fuel and was damp. I gave up for the day due to dinner time coming up and i could not remember how to remove the tank. I now know there are 8 bolts to take out and the tank will come out with the brackets and all. May takle that this weekend. Boy am i happy i did not want to reuse that pos.

Made some good progress today. I removed the fuel tank then the bed. I will never know why in that order. I also figured out why i was always getting crap in my fuel filter. Fuel sock had a hole in it.
