Couple pics and update. I scored a straight, clean, and shiny front bumper today from my friend Randy. Just needs a good polishing and it'll look new. It's a repro but it's a nice one, pretty thick and the chrome is really nice. Score! Plus I nabbed the taillight harness I was missing.
Went to the yard in Mollala but all I really could find that I needed (that was worth the trouble) was a pair of defroster hoses. Found a nice clean pair, for $3. Not bad. Also slapped the sway bar on the truck today while I had a few minutes. Ordered my CPP spindles and brake kit today, so this time next week the truck just might be a roller (!!!!) :metal: Movin' right along now! :metal: |

Update! Truck is officially a roller! I finally got my CPP stuff, but wound up picking up Western spindles from Chevy Metal in Vancouver so I could get it together. Ironically, I found out the hard way that CPP does not supply dust shields with their brake kits, only with their spindle kits... so I am short them. Doesn't stop the truck from being a roller, so I'll get some on there before I actually drive the truck. For now it'll roll in and out of the garage so i can have room to work on it!
The parts went together really well, no issues at all. I do have to say one thing, CPP does have some great products. I just don't like their customer service. If you do have to call them, ask for Francisco, he did a great job when I called today to find out about the dust shields. More pics this weekend, here's some pics from wednesday night. This weekend I have to finish greasing all the steering joints and sway bar, and clean up the disaster in my garage from thrashing to make the truck a roller!!! :metal::metal::metal::metal: |

I have the week off so I'm trying to get as much done as I can. My goal is to get the chassis done and the engine / trans installed, or at least bolted in. Day one was all about stripping the engine down, cleaning it up, and putting it back together. The morning started at 25 degrees, and only warmed up to 33 by 2pm. It was a little hard to work... but I went for it anyways. Here's a few pics. Also, I made a list for the day out of a cardboard box, Roadkill style. If Frieburger and Finnigan can do it, then I can.

Stripped down the engine to some good news. Looks like it's super clean inside, while it looks like it was running a little rich. Cam is super clean, lifters, cylinder walls , etc all in good shape. I got as far as the front cover and oil pan, and the cold got me. I"ll continue tomorrow.... brrrrrr
It's supposed to be colder tomorrow. Bah! |
Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig
The motor looks clean.

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig
Nice job on the frame. It looks like you got a good bed also. Will be watching this build. Good job so far.

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig
Great progress. I've been fighting the cold all week also, really hard to get motivated when its low 20s out

Today's progress. All done, next up is the brake lines. I mocked the brake lines up to find out that CPP supplies 73-87 hoses from the calipers to the frame (7/16") but stock 71-72 is 3/8". So I will have to grab adapters to hook them up... no biggie, was kinda hoping to have the whole thing buttoned up though.

Merry Christmas Everyone! I got a bunch done today on the truck. My wife was nice enough to let me just go to town for a few hours on the truck and I got a ton done. Pretty much have the whole chassis plumbed and ready to go. Here's some pics. Hope you all have a great Christmas! :metal:

Got the engine / trans in today. The trans didn't clean up as much as I'd have liked, so I'm going to just clean it where it is on the frame before I drop the cab on tomorrow. Progress!!!
I am amazed at how much of an angle that GM put these motors. On to the pics!!! |

Yea the stuff inside is surface... I need to ask the place if they do soda and not sand, you're right that is pretty thin metal. It all depends on time though, it's probably all coming apart again to do paint / bodywork later this year, still kind of waiting to see how far I get before I make any decisions. I keep changing my mind about the "end result" so I'm sticking with the simple rout for now before I wind up spending way more money!!! :waah: |

Quick update! Got most of the rest of the chassis together. Today I hooked up the wiring for the gas tank sender, only to realize I didn't have a bullet connector! Ran the wire up to the front with the rear lights harness. Hooked the ground wire from the sender to the frame too.
I installed the rear bumper brackets, as I realized it will be really tough to do that once the bed is on with the gas tank there! On the way to work today I picked up the core support I was missing and bolts for the front bumper. Once I finish off a couple little things tonight in the front, the cab can go back on tomorrow and I'll throw the front clip back on. All I am missing now is the front shocks and the chassis is done. Hopefully before the weekend is over, it will look like a truck again, minus the grille and splash apron. \m/. Here's some pics. |

More pics. On the last ppic you'll see my gas tank, which is the replacement Blazer tank. What do you Blazer guys do about the filler neck difference? I was going to find a gas filler hose with a 30 degree bend to it, and run a Suburban filler neck, does anyone know the part # for the gas filler hose?

Got a bunch done today! Since I had the chassis done except for the front shocks, I put the body together finally. As I went I found a couple things that I needed to change, but this is only temporary until I start painting panels. Cab went on fine, helps to have that dolly. The bed was another story... I guess I had the tank too far up, and the bed rail wound up sitting on the tank, so I lowered the tank enough for it to fit. Going to need longer bolts on the driver's side.
The new core support made things easy, I slapped that in place and everything else went together easy. Even the hood was a snap to adjust, got it to close good first try! I have to bolt everything else to the core support still (battery tray, voltage reg, remove the 3 core mounts on the bottom, headlights, etc) but I can do that all with it installed. No problem. Next stop is assembling the rest of the engine and somehow finding a power steering pump  On to the pictures!!! |

My current goals are hooking up the steering and the parking brake. Kinda helps to be able to stop it and steer it!!! :metal: |
Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig
Not having a lot of luck getting things to come together this week (steering shaft especially) but got one thing done... the parking brake works! No more setting things in front of the tires, just pull the handle. Ahh. So at least it stops... was hoping to have it steer this week. Learning a lot about the differences between shortbed and longbed trucks, and 67-68 and 69-72's. They may look similar but really... they're not. I've had to swap out many, many parts from the old '69 that just plain won't work or don't fit.
Dropped off stuff at the media blaster place too, looks like next week the grille, cowl, front stone deflector, headlight buckets, and mirror arms will all be clean and ready to paint. Gonna look a little less multicolored very soon! |

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig
For a flat black (not sure which brand you want to go with) But the John Deer Blitz Black is one of the best (and cheapest) on the market. If you havent seen it yet it may be a good choice to look into it. At one point of my build I was so set on flat black I did weeks and months of research into flat blacks. I unfortunately cant get it here in Ca because of all the environmental codes and what not but you should be able to get it up there fine..

Also at this point I'm pretty sure I'm not going to make Power Tour this year, I have too many things left to do just to get this running. But I'll keep trying until I hit the deadline. :sumo: |
