yeah, wouldn't that be cool! had the same though when i seen that chevy at SWAT. dont know if the bank account could handle it though!
still looking for a few pieces for my 72 chev off-road wrecker, but i was down in the crawlspace the other day digging out crap for the wife, & found a couple old broken car bodies. mid '80's camaro (ehhh), another '57 chevy (woo-hoo, already got 5 of 'em), and this.... Attachment 1268468Attachment 1268470 '68 el camino, nice, i like. got the body, glass, frame, hurtin' paint job, & most of the interior. after the dawg incident with the van i decided not to use the slots, but i think they will look good on here. |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Wow ...I like the Elkie. ...I have a 70 that's my daily driver. ..

nice, the '70 was always my favorite.
been busy prepping for our holidays, but got some parts ordered for the elco & started making fender flares out of 080 quarter round Attachment 1270297 a hint of the color Attachment 1270298 |

thanks Ol Blue!
yeah, the blue is ol', i bought it yrs ago to repair my cobra ski-boat but sold it before i used it. kinda excited to see what it will look like on the elco. it's the first time i've used it other then some test swabs. like the green van it don't photo well, same thing, bit lighter. did spray the block & t-case with it. got this out of one of the '57's, not sure if it's a 454 or 396. seeing how they came with a three nine six, that's what i'm calling it:) Attachment 1270776Attachment 1270777 been spending some time on the body (i usually do them last), wanna see what this blue will look like! Attachment 1270778 |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
I want to see what it looks like too. In high school (won't say how many years ago) we 4x4ed a 71 Elkie

sweet! would like to have seen that. got any polaroids or was film not invented yet?....:)
haven't got a lot done. waiting for my axles & going on holidays this friday, got beer, fishing, quaddin', & beer on the mind, not much else:metal: nuthin' real glamourous or exciting, got rid of the 2wd stuff & modified the frame Attachment 1272768 396 is pretty much done Attachment 1272769 caged the interior up Attachment 1272770Attachment 1272773 a little bit more color. thinking some black SS stripes for contrast. not sure if i'm going to drill the window & tie the roll bar to the cage Attachment 1272772 |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
I wish I had pics, back then we never thought about pics. My first Polaroid was after high school. Have fun this weekend. My girlfriend and I are planning a few days at my cabin this weekend.

yeah, know what you mean, only thing that mattered was cars & girls!
actually going for a week & a couple of days, thanks man. once our house is paid off in 4 more yrs, me & the wife will be looking for a small chunk of vacation prop. out in the bush somewhere, a cabin would be a big bonus! soooo looking forward to it, been clocking big hrs to make up for the lousy winter & cant wait to unwind & just goof off. three more days...... pretty much at a standstill till parts get here & we get back, but i did scratch up some tubular steps for it Attachment 1273126 |

have managed to get a few things done since we got back. was supposed to do the end links on the wife's envoy today, but it's raining, so hoping to get some paint laid.

yeah, i got a soft spot for them. some people think there cheesy or whatever, but i dont care, i like 'em, 4x4's need them.
while i'm waiting for the paint on the camino to dry, my mog rims & tires showed up today, so i started playing around with my deora. out of my entire collection ('bout 170), this is only the second non-gm in the fleet (mis-guided sister-in-law gave me a ferd thunderbolt few yrs ago) comes with a slant 6 (), got a '97 LS, & a carbed BBC, undecided yet, but i like cubic inches! has a goofy camper shell, but i'm thinking a box style camper like a big expedition rig with a big roof rack & bumpers with bars around the cab & up to the roof rack. just thinking right now, the finished product rarely looks like what i originally plan.... Attachment 1280856Attachment 1280857 them wheelwells definitely need to be opened up some Attachment 1280858 |

been dickin' around with my deora. i know it's a show truck & goes for the wow factor & doesn't have to be practicable, but i want to make it more of an everyday truck. the sideways mounted gauges & steering column are going, almost have this '65 chevelle dash mounted in there like a conventional vehicle. Attachment 1282711Attachment 1282712 which means the front clamshell door is not going to work. i'm eliminating it & etched some doors in the sides, opened up the wheelwells & got rid of the show truck exhausts Attachment 1282713Attachment 1282714 have a exo-skeleton cage design in my head that will be next Attachment 1282715 |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Right now it kinda reminds me of lunar vehicle...the chevelle dash should help get rid of that. Can't wait to see it progress.
|
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
1 Attachment(s)
yeah, it does resemble some kind of space mobile, & it's almost a 50 yr old design! once the exo skeleton, f&r winches, big bumpers, cab rack, roof rack & a bunch of other junk goes on, hopefully should resemble something more earthbound
mix-mash interior so far. '65 chevelle dash, '95 firebird steering wheel, & i lengthened a '96 explorer console. got to make some window cranks & door handles Attachment 1283831 |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Dash and console looks good in there. Takes some of the futuristic look away. Nice job

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

dont know Dale, started a exo-skeleton cage & it still looks like a moon mobile, maybe once the bumpers & stuff are on....
closed out the door & sanded the pebble grain off Attachment 1285493 thinking white with black bumpers & cage & these stripe decals i made on PAINT. the black wood is for cabinets inside, & the granite decal is for the floor & counter tops Attachment 1285494 axles weren't wide enough, cut off the tubes, drilled them out & made them longer with some 1/8 tubing, added valve stems to the rims too. started the cage, the f&r tubes will eventually tie into the bumpers, the middle bars & ladder will tie into some rocksliders Attachment 1285496 so far... Attachment 1285497Attachment 1285498 |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

dont know 'Ol Blue, still spacey looking. maybe if i cut the side windows more square-ish....
with this great summer weather, this has slowed down to the back burner, have managed to squeeze some stuff in though. molded in the flip up windshield & front door, looked kinda plain so i added some 030 rod around the windows for trim. made a bed, couch, table, counter with cupboards & a flatscreen for inside. Attachment 1291022 decided to go with the carbed chevy, the LS is too much eye-candy to waste on this, you will never see it once it's mounted, which meant moving the engine mounts & making a new tranny mount, & cutting off a bunch of he 2wd stuff as well. started a front bumper (will have a big guard of expanded steel), & just started the springs Attachment 1291023 put a bunk bed in the topper Attachment 1291026 yeah, i think if i square out the side windows some....prob. match the exo cage lines better. been making a couple cage mods Attachment 1291030Attachment 1291031 |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Spacey or not it's looking cool. You're doing a lot of cool custom stuff to it.

Attachment 1303676 leafing threw my caster's catalog i see 49" swampers, a little bit of lift, six of those & a wrecker boom off the back. any opinions? found some good prints of a Holmes 750, dont look like it would be to hard to make.... case was courtesy of my wife. in the early 90's she worked at Kmart, then the canadian K's closed & she brought this nintendo display case home. if you pull off the auto stickers, there's nintendo wrote all over it. started making a topper, & some of the rear susp. in. Attachment 1305134Attachment 1305136 Attachment 1305137 thinking 2 toning this one. wife says there's not enough color in the fleet & suggested yellow & white (gag!!?), but after looking at some yeller & white blazers,....maybe... |
