Re: 70 Short Stepside
Went by the painters yesterday. Finally some progress. It has been slow, but the bodywork looks awesome. Hope to get some color on soon.

Thanks Mike. Lost my momentum waiting on the painter.

Re: 70 Short Stepside
Just read through the build thus far, sad in the beginning, but inspiring. I'll be watching this one. Keep up the good work bringing the truck back to life.

Re: 70 Short Stepside
My truck was in the bodyshop for 3 years from start to finish and I almost gave up several times but got inspiration from all the builds going on here that kept me going .In the end mine was very much worth the wait and the shop did an exceptional job on it and yours will be worth the wait too.

Re: 70 Short Stepside
Flashed, I will stay at it. It is hard to keep your mind on it when all you can do is wait. I have looked around for some pics if your truck, do you have any posted?
|
Re: 70 Short Stepside
I cant post pics but someone else posted some for me ,I will see if I can find them.
|
Re: 70 Short Stepside

Re: 70 Short Stepside
The paint work on the cab and doors looks very nice. You should have some inspiration now to keep it going.
Great work so far. Take care, Tom |
Re: 70 Short Stepside
I agree with Tom above ,paint looks great , cant wait too see it done.

Re: 70 Short Stepside
I am hoping they will finish it up pretty soon. Can't wait to see it on the frame.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1...pse8df126d.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ps63817736.jpg Cab finally back on. What is the order you guys usually reassemble? I am sure some things don't matter, but I am sure it is easier if certain things are done first. Any input is appreciated. |
Re: 70 Short Stepside
That is beautiful :) Very nice. I'll bet you are excited to keep it going.
I am not sure how others would do it but the next step I would do is get the firewall area back together on both sides. You will need the firewall insulation which goes inside first. I would get the master cylinder/brake booster installed and run the brake lines and bleed the brakes, then get the steering hooked up. I guess it depends on what needs to go on first so you are not pulling parts off to install other parts. You may want to invest in an assembly manual and try to follow it. It will save you time and show you the proper order of assembly. Keep up the good work. If you need gauge cluster work, I know a person that can help ;) Tom |

WOW ,it is looking great.

Re: 70 Short Stepside
I turn 50 on the 13th. We had a birthday party this weekend and my sister gave me a few pictures of the truck that inspired this build.

If you read the beginning of this thread I talked about Frog. This is a picture of him (on left) after a successful deer hunt

This is a picture of my nephew and his son. Some day this truck will be passed on to him.

Re: 70 Short Stepside
Took final load of body parts to be blasted. Should pick the up Monday. I will prime them and then drop them off at the painter.

Re: 70 Short Stepside
Your build is coming along nicely. I really like the paint looks like it was worth the wait.
|
Re: 70 Short Stepside
Thanks. I love the color. I debated on going with the dark olive but decided to stay with the dark green. I think I made the right choice.

Re: 70 Short Stepside
The hood and tailgate look to be in good condition.
Both the front and rear fenders appear to need some work. What about the bed sides I can't really tell what condition they are in from the pictures, are they bowed at all? What about the front panel I don't see it in the pictures. |
Re: 70 Short Stepside
Bedsides are good. I am replacing the front panel. Fenders will need some work.
|
Re: 70 Short Stepside
It's nothing that can't be fixed. Mine was worse than yours and look at them now. It will take some replacing some of the metal but it will work. Happy building
|
Re: 70 Short Stepside
Header panels aren't hard to come by so you should be good. I really like the color of your truck. Is that 7'70 green?
|
Re: 70 Short Stepside
I am planning on going with a repop front bed panel. I am going to let the painter take care of the rest of the body repair. The color is the factory dark green 505.

Re: 70 Short Stepside
What are your plans for the rusted out areas on the various pieces, metal replacement or quick and dirty?
|
Re: 70 Short Stepside
Got some parts back from powdercoating. Notice the awesome dent in my breather cap. I barely got home with it and dropped it. I will have to find another one and have it done. I have a few more parts to take anyway. You can see the pitting in the bed supports, but they will be covered

Re: 70 Short Stepside
Brian, the painter is going to cut the rust out and replace it. I showed him the pieces before blasting and he said they could handle it. It is above my pay grade. I will work on the stuff that is not right out there for all to see.
