Re: 61K10 build
Thanks 1963c-10 and TJ.
Mitch--hope to be driving it by summer. almost finished the bodywork on the cab, and then paint. (needs to warm up some more) as you have seen my paint booth. still need a windshield and my seat done + frame. Jason--I like your 315's on Big Ugly. looked at them when i was looking for tires. I am happy with mine but would like some 17.5's with some skinny's. My daughter is now in Redlands and you said your mom lives out that way. will probably be down there in April some time. maybe we can kook up, I'll buy lunch. cake care guy's---Kimble |
Re: 61K10 build
Kimble,
Definitely give me a call or send me a message when you decide the date you'll be down this way. I usually make the trip out to visit my Mom every other weekend so I'm sure we can meet up. |

Your cup holder = Bar Bouy
Used to see them a lot when I was a kid, seems every truck and station wagon had one. I was surprised to find they still make and sell them !! Some of the survivor trucks on this site have them from time to time, amazing each time I see one. :metal: |
Re: 61K10 build
McM--I didn't buy it, it came with my truck.
|
Re: 61K10 build
That build would be a nice candidate for a factory grill guard.

Re: 61K10 build
Woo-We that thing is gonna be killer, when done. I always thought that if you didn't paint it all at one time that the color could be off alittle..when painting piece by piece, but it looks great, that's prolly what I'll do too paint piece by piece as I won't have it all ready at the same time...I may have to fix me up one of them special paint booth like you had since I don't have a garage. AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME...

Re: 61K10 build
Looking real good! Was checking out your hood, and notice that so far you haven't painted the underside black yet. Are you gonna? It looks to be in really good shape, you got a good one.
|
Re: 61K10 build
Randy--painting one piece at a time can do just what you said about the color being different shades. I swear my fenders are different than my doors, but i am real picky. out in the sun everything blends in. good enough for me. also i would say certain colors or metallic might be more of a problem. Bottom line is i don't have a choice lol.
Mitch--I will paint the inside of the hood black. It's a little awkward to flip upside down by yourself. (don't want to drop it or scratch it) My hood had some dents but no rust. tk came with a 62-66 hood when i bought it. got lucky and a member here had one with some other parts. |
Re: 61K10 build
Nothing wrong with being picky...and the quality of your work is evident in that. Looks great....five stars from me!!!!

thanks 1963c-10. funny, I am picky but sometimes when doing something that should be 100% I might go 80% when done lol. not a perfectionist by any means.
Mitch---pics of the hood while doing bodywork on it. This was on the doors as this was a search and rescue tk--was sprayed over by the po. |
Re: 61K10 build
wow! No wonder yours has all the cool stuff! Hydra boost brakes, custom front / rear bumbers/ winch / PTO transfer case / factory spicer hubs. And a cool ass story to boot!
And your doing some really good work. Should be getting excited about assembly and putt puttin around in her. |
Re: 61K10 build
Mitch--excited yes, but on the other hand getting a little burnt-out. seems it's taking more Bud to get me through the day lol. enjoy life as getting old isn't all that fun, your brain says your still young but your body says no lol. take care guy's--

Re: 61K10 build
Looking good !! Im enjoying this build, been following along since you started. Love the color to. Question, I haven't messed with the front axles on any 4x4s before. Did you take yours all apart and rebuild ?
|
Re: 61K10 build
60-66--I pulled everything apart except the carrier (ring & pinion) all new knuckle bearings and seals. new axle u-joints and wheel bearings, brakes etc. some jeep parts work for the brakes. will post up pics when i put stuff together.

Re: 61K10 build
Frame came out great....

Re: 61K10 build

Re: 61K10 build
Wow your making a lot of progress, you must be spending a lot of time with that truck.. My wife would always tell me that I'm spending too much time on my car than her...LOL.
all your hard work is paying off though... she's lookin mighty fine, mighty fine... |

Randy--I am retired so i have the time. It's finely warm enough to work before 12pm here. wife sews and i am banished to the garage/shop. (1/2 2car garage 1/2 shop) as i worked outside all my life no matter the weather. I am not a inside person. wife's not too happy about her car sitting outside right now, but being married 44yrs shes ok with it for now.
got the trans in yesterday--now brakes and drive shafts. going to be hard to push around now lol. |
Re: 61K10 build
Nice work....glad to see I'm not the only one running stainless lines for the hydraulic clutch.
|
Re: 61K10 build
1963c-10-- i bought the hard line they sell and didn't like it. no flex in it. I've used braided brake lines on drag race cars and motorcycles. over the years. will have one from the master to my hydro-vac on inner finder also.
|
Re: 61K10 build
Glad to hear....I purchased stainless AN lines for my clutch master / slave cylinder and hear a lot of people don't like them due to the flex in them. But I used the same logic as you....race cars and motorcycles use them...so why not a truck. I'll still run hard lines for the brakes, but wanted the braided stainless line for the clutch system to make the rest of the braided lines I've made for the fuel system, heater system and the water bypass system.
|
Re: 61K10 build
the stock clutch line is part rubber and steel tube. braided steel lines don't swell like just rubber one do.
|
Re: 61K10 build
Gotcha, my hydraulic clutch is a Novak conversion that I assembled on the factory frame mounted bellhousing. I'm installing a big block, so I wanted more clearance for headers and to remove the factory frame linkage.
|
Re: 61K10 build
well not much done--my V8 y-pipe for stock single exhaust is not going to work. in the way of the drive shaft for the winch. I am building my own set-up. will post pics when i get all my parts.
did the back brakes with new stuff. pretty basic so no pics. will post up pics of the front as they are totally different than the rear. one more problem--with the bell-housing mounts. look at the pic above in 109. you see the top of the mount is flat. the org. ones were curved on each end. there is a step on the bell for the curved ones. the flat ones don't set flat. ordered some new ones that in the pic were curved. will post up pics of the 2 when i receive the new ones. maybe the bells on later sm465 are different? |
Re: 61K10 build

well here is the exhaust i came up with that clears my drive shaft for my pto/winch----+ a little high heat stove paint.
the org y-pipe is is a poor design as far as performance goes. as the left bank goes straight into the right bank pipe. no blend. |

Nice to see you have the exhaust done. :chevy:
|
Re: 61K10 build
I like the black.... funny thing is I was falling asleep last night thinking of how I wanted to do that very same thing to my exhaust.
Will look better than just a bunch of bare tubing rusting away down there !! :metal: |
Re: 61K10 build
Glad to see your moving along at a good pace. I seem to be stuck behind the motor rebuild. Nice job fabbing that exhaust up too. Probably saved yourself a few hundred bucks!
