I started working on cars when I was 15, my shop teacher was all by the book. But, my welding teacher was great like you are with these kids. He challenged us all the time which made us want more just like what you did here with making a short box. Good for you and great for the kids who are not pencil pushers or into gaming. It's only sheet metal when you start, but a gem when you're done.

Well said! Really like the program and what the students learn. Good progress.

A Big THANK YOU to everyone that is complimenting our program and what we are doing. The students are really working hard and are ready to work as soon as they come through the door - they are making my job fun and easy. I told my wife the other day that I was like her - I stand around and point and tell everybody else what to do.... that went over great.

Do you plan on using the current rear bumper or switching to a sport bumper ? I think I have a pair of gravel guards for a sport bumper and I also have the front and rear light lenses to send you in my possession .I still need to dig in my shop and see what else I have you may be able to use .

We are thinking about just leaving it - cause it will mess up the patina top bed rail, and the guys are wanting to leave out the side marker light

How is the bed looking?

Re: High School Project Build II

It's looking good. We have to cut and weld the drivers rear - then paint both rear sections and the very edge of the front - the white cracked and peeled, the blue didn't crack

This week is not going to be to productive. The star quarterback in our high school passed away saturday night as a result of a car accident. He was not one of my students - but was greatly loved by all the student body and faculty. He was also on the basketball team and highly involved in one of the local churches. Please remember us in this hardship

Looks good! I know of one the thread you referenced for doing this Farmtrucks. It was very informative.

Does anyone have a template and step by step showing where to cut, tip and weld for this process of turning a long bed into a short? It would be handy to have in one document or in a few posts.

It is very cool that you did the front of the bed like that I see so many cut the bed side ..if you do it again you can make a buck off the stock bed side and then clamp it in the shortened bed side and hammer it over the buck and you won't have to cut all the slots in it .. It was good thinking your teaching more than just your class...
