Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
We got the shocks painted and re installed, the tank bracket painted, the vu4 bracket painted and installed a few bulkheads today. Pics to come of that. Also decided to paint the air tanks gloss white, and painted the straps that hold them blue to match the truck. Should have a nice pop to it against all the black but not be overpowering

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Looking great! Keep up the good work

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Heres a pic of the air tank painted and straps color matched. The second tank needs to be stripped and re sprayed due to humidity issues we had with the paint, but you get the idea
http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...ss9qr66df.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sktntzd4n.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...swkbziecr.jpeg Got the front of the truck and underside of the cab and frame stripped down. I had to do a "kick up" in the frame rail for the steer shaft carrier bearing coming off the steering rack. The pancaked crossmember raised the shaft location enough that the angle was too tight. I boxed it off and smoothed it out so itd look as factory as possible. Also welded on the shock mounts for good http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...psvdxb6jwc.jpg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...pstoh14c0a.jpg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...psfxbvymfj.jpg Got the front crossmember painted up http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...psyozn9gid.jpg Frame and firewall cleaned off and masked up http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...psiwmewupf.jpg Fresh coat of black http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...pswz8crefq.jpg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...pshzfhivyr.jpg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...psomoeh2a4.jpg Got my multi tiered, jerry rigged paint hangers to paint the porterbilt hinges and bag plates haha http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...psms9qw4hw.jpg |
Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Nice work, and lots of it. Hard sometimes to understand all of the time/effort that is captured in just a few pics. Keep at it!

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Thanks bud. Its a boat load of work. I got well over 300 hrs of strictly metal fabrication in it and lost track towards the end so who knows really. Plus the time me and the owner have put into painting, cleaning, mock up etc etc. I appreciate it :metal:

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Looks good man.

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Is there any way we can utilize the original steering column shaft and fit a u joint to it ? Or will he have to buy a whole new shaft?
|
Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Front end is painted and together finally. Also finally got the tanks installed so we got a good look at how the rear is going to look. Well for the most part

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Does anyone have any recommendations on the steering column shaft ? Can i grind it flat to accept a d shaft style u joint, should the owner buy a new shaft. Any links lf other info ? Id greatly appreciate it

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
My buddy rob also got some wicked shots of the truck. I wanted some shots of all the chassis work that went into this truck. I have a ton of time into all the fab. Hes shot some pics of other cars ive had and always does a fantastic job. Heres just a few shots....

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Got some more work done. Air lines are officially run, both front and rear
http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sqo0pqd7p.jpeghttp://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sndthpzwh.jpeg Heres a pic of the air tank/compressor bracket removed from the frame. I designed and built this so the whole package would come up and out with just 4 bolts on top of the rails http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...stctmpcur.jpeg Got some of the tank fittings knocked out, compressor lines and water traps sealed up for good http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...scv7hbujw.jpeg My buddy and his dad knocked out the rear brake lines as well, all the way back to the master cylinder http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...scmh4uq1s.jpeg My buddy is running a gmc grill on the truck, he found a fairly clean chrome one. Chrome had some tarnish and pitting on it http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...s7fwqbvsj.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sciforevc.jpeg I used some quick-glo chrome cleaner that my dad found after seeing it on jay lenos garage. This stuff is amazing. Heres the grille after one quick pass with the cleaner http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...srou3thht.jpeg Heres a few pics of the gmc letters and the headlight bezel after a quick 30 second rub with this stuff. The headlight bezel cleaned up great, it didnt remove the heavy pit obviously but the whole ring had yellow/brown rust residue and as you can see it removed it with ease on the half that was done http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...snu8yk6gn.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...s49pxyhku.jpeg This stuff also has a wax/sealant in it to help prevent moisture from getting back into the affected areas. It works great |
Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Awesome pics. Really diggin your build.
|
Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Good progress. You just cost me $10 in quick-glo, haha!
|
Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Thanks chizzler, and trust me gringo its worth every penny. I used it alot on my 62 belair, my 54 fore i have now has a lot of parts that need a rub with it. Its good stuff haha

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Thanks guys. Hey do any of you know what we can do for the ster shaft ? Is there a shorter replacement shaft that we can get or can we get the stock one machined down to fit a d style u joint

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Progress is starting to get back on track. Stripped and painted the motor stovebolt blue, with white valve cover and pulleys. Did a full regasket with new water and fuel pump

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Also started running the wiring for the e-level. Ran wire loom between the air lines to keep it tidy

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Everything's looking really good, nice to see the six getting some love
|
Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Yea, the owner is doing an ls swap next year, but it didnt make sense to throw a grimey lookin engine back in a fresh chassis. Few cans of paint and it looks great. Im a big fan of clean inline motors, had a 235 in my 62. They look awesome when there done right

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
So I am getting ready to put those cowle hood hinges on my 64. Any tips or suggestions to make it easier? I've got a vague idea of what I'm doing but could always use some pointers. Also how far down did you place the on the firewall and is there a reason why everyone I've seen has taken the heater box off? Thanks in advance truck is fantastic love the fab work. I have learned a lot from your work.
|
Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Heater box is removed for the trucks on air because the tire will hit otherwise. Most guys on bags run these hinges since the stock ones are on the inner fender brace and all that is pretty much removed when your on air for clearance. As far as the install goes, the owner of this truck actually installed them. Looked pretty straight forward though, and i beleive it came with instructions

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Updates. Were having issues getting the alt pulley and power steering pulley lined up. As you can see there off quite a bit
http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...smyuk1ye8.jpeg Im thinking i can get a spacer behind the alt pulley since i have enough threads to space it out, and then i can modify the power steering bracket to bring the pump forward. Heres a pic of the shaft on the alt, should have enough room to get a spacer behind it http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...s59x7hrmh.jpeg Got the engine back in for the final time http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sj5wnpt9a.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...stq4gerfw.jpeg Distributor back in, plug wires etc http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...snlzqurhq.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sztbzh9h2.jpeg Whipped up some hard lines for the fuel and vent, hooked up throttle linkage, choke, coolant and oil lines etc http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...stdysdvyv.jpeg Started running the e level wires for the controller, relay and power up the framerail http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sdde5sw1i.jpeg |
Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
My buddy decided he wanted to run a GMC grill so we got that mocked up. I gotta do some tig repairs to the mounting flanges
http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sahowfzfz.jpeg We painted the back of the cab black to help it disappear in the gap between the bed and cab http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...saqepi82e.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...s7ur4hsbm.jpeg Welded up the license plate holes in the front bumper and sprayed it white. Had issues with the paint so it still needs to be resprayed http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...shqktzg7g.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...s2o7p7jn0.jpeg Front clip back on for good, sprayed the inside of the fenders, top edge of the fenders and inner panel behind the grill all black http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sdbyisby0.jpeg Hood on and lined up nice http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...spkums7fz.jpeg Mocked up the side trim for a quick peek http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...shlm0byyj.jpeg Whipped up some battery cables, supplies are from del city. Put a solder slug into the terminal, put flux on your bare wire, heat the terminal/solder slug and press the bare wire in for a rock solid connection. Then heat shrink over the joint http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...suwkxo2u0.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...swa7ixl0b.jpeg I also tig'd the final u joint on the steer shaft so the entire steering linkage is done and working great |

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Sorry guys havent updated in forever. Lotta progress since the last post
Re painted the front bumper after a re sand due to a few skeeters that landed in the paint haha. Also painted the rear bumper http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...s8hqwf5ig.jpeg Rolled the truck out to clean up the shop. Snagged a few night time pics for the hell of it http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sgyxudnim.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...slb3bnmtw.jpeg Whoever did the lettering on the tailgate did a horrific tape job and a terrible attempt at shadowed letters. Heres a pic of that masterpiece lol. You can see the letters dont even match the stamped shape on the tailgate. :banghead::banghead: http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...s0niich6q.jpeg So i re sanded everything..... http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...soy47yfkm.jpeg Masked off new letters and sprayed white on the panel around the letters. Little different look as opposed to the typical white letters on most trucks http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...stboyvrgv.jpeg Im going to be doing a black pinstripe around the letters and around the perimeter of the raised panel as well. Should accent it well Mocking up side trim and hubcaps.. http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sseqawod8.jpeg Trim installed with inner section painted, bumpers on. Lookin good http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sw2sjcd93.jpeg Couple front end shots.... http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sgiecyjeb.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...sjd5xpzev.jpeg The truck is now officially out of my shop. My buddy who owns it is buttoning up all the tiny stuff with his dad at the moment; power steering lines, belts, misc odds and ends. Should be finished up within the next few months. Winter is here and its cold as hell lol. Ill post updates once the trucks done. just started dabbling in photography so ill grab some good pics for you guys at that point too. For now im on to building my 54 ford. I just bought the car back after 6 yrs. i sold it when i was 17 and always wanted to build it so i bought it back to do so. Its also my daily driver. Kinda off topic for here but heres a pic. Traditional 50's kustom, 7" rear/ 6" front drop, whitewalls and original stainless 48-52 caddy sombreros. Gonna do a pale gold roof and all new tuck n roll interior. Already did a 5 speed swap as well http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...seotyd7bl.jpeg http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...saj5mujmr.jpeg |

Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Just went through this whole thread, build is SO sick. Stealing some of your ideas for sure hahaha, your fab skills are stupid good dude.
Also saw your Boh sticker which made me check your location, I work 5 minutes from Riverside, in Belcamp. Looking for a cleanish '63-'66 to do a similar thing with. On air, just not with Accuair money haha and I don't have your fab skills at all. If you know of any 63-66 trucks around the area though let me know man, i'm on the hunt! |
Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Looks great dude
|
Re: Bagged 65 c10. AKA the periwinkle pile
Thanks so much guys
Slamgears where do you work? Riverside/belcamp is the same area really. I live like 200 yards from the arbys right there at the 543 intersection. Ill keep an eye out for a truck for you. If your local swing by the garage sometime. Its down in joppa about 6 miles from belcamp |
