Had the body built only to find this today;) Removed the cab and bed is all, and the painter took the bed again. I may be on the road next year. So long, 6 years is a 10th of my life:lol: Three guys will be on body and paint, their shop is slow too.
I went pretty deep on the dry run. Less the upper rear bed, we had the height of the moldings near nuts on both sides without trying. Props to GM, the bodies are well engineered, we made few body alterations. One of the upper bed moldings had bow near center, so we found a happy medium and finished 1/8" off a match at the rear. The front RH door to fender matched within 1/32" where they're supposed to be, I know why, we'll get it right at build. I'm only referring to placement of the moldings, not holes drilled. Ended up shimming the fenders of course, basic cab cushion shims. Front RH cowl panel a whopping 3/16", the RH pillar took 1/8", mix on the LH door striker, and an 1/8" shim at the RH front bed for level and straight. For what it's worth, with new cushions etc. there's a 1" gap between the cab and the top front bed panel. It also measures 3.9" from the rear of the frame rails to the back of the bed floor. I'm interested to know what others find, partially because I need to modify brackets for a rear bumper. Distance from the rear of the frame rails to a sport bumper would be exceptional help. The bed is crooked and the cushions shot on my C20:smoke: It measures within 2/10" at 7/10" from the cab to front bed panel, and 3.7" from frame rail to end of bed floor. |

Re-tubed the washer nozzles, pump run but no squirt. Tackle that at a later time. Slipped the cowl back on with a new seal. Started tearing vent doors apart for paint and new seals.
Installed rear axle bump stop for lowered suspension. Like a dummy I only ordered one and didn’t notice until I opened the box. Discovered my vacuum advance is not working. Always something. |

Finally had the time to weld up and grind smooth groves worn on the rear brake backing plates where the brake shoes ride. After over 50 years of use the grooves were substantial and the shoes would bind in them. Also replaced the shoes and spring kit, rear brakes are operating so much smother and quieter.

This was a couple of week project. Test fit and didn't like the way it looked or fit. I made brackets to sit it the way I wanted. I'm happy with the end result.

I got another tach dash done. Waiting on parts for the other one.
Both will have tach's, and LED bulbs installed. I reset the odometer back to 00000 also! I called Manes truck parts to check on a order and got to talking to the owner, he is sending me some NOS tach housings and inserts he had plus he called me back later and said he put some needle paint in the shipment also for free! I'm going to have the speed warning back together soon also I hope. I had TBone1964 refurb it for me. :chevy: |

Finally repainted the interior, cowl area, and jambs of my Ochre 71 C10. PO had repainted the truck a generic yellow (hood in photo that has not been repainted yet) that was in dire need of help. Back to original Ochre but a long way to go.

Finished rebuilding my vent doors. Tear apart, blast, repaint and re-assemble with new seals. Just stuck them back in some zip loc bags and into my parts bin. Far from ready to re-install them but I had the parts and the time this weekend.

Installed a Lokar cable shift setup on my automatic. Then removed and and went back to the rod system.
The cable system did not work for me at all. Has anyone made this work? Also installed a holley bracket and solenoid for increasing the idle with the AC running. Had to trim the bracket as it interfered with the throttle linkage and held the throttle open. Can believe Holley can't make a bracket for their carbs (new street avenger) that works without modifications |

I installed a new vacuum advance and cleaned up the mechanical advance. She doesn’t stumble off idle any more.
Pulled both front inner fenders in preparation to pull the whole front suspension out. It wasn’t totally necessary but figured the extra room would not hurt. Found the front fenders in pretty good shape but the core support and right inner fender rough. Also put the Chevrolet license plate on the front that I had on my 70 model when I was 16. That was 34 years ago. |
