Im going to do a spray in liner behind the tank. Got everything masked off and a light coat of primer down before gun crapped out. Its leaking, and not a very expensive gun, so ill replace it.
But got enough down that surface rust shouldnt be an issue |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
And the funnest part of the cab is I have to do the fleetside too and its got 2, maybe 3 coats of paint
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Guys, y'all are making me rethink doing my interior!! At least my dash is completed.
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Its not that bad, and it'll look great when done. No more nc summers in gloss black w/black bench seat

Also got the last fitting in to plumb the factory gauge to the block in stainless -3 an line. The cluster still looks great from the restore 3 years ago, so I used a spare for mock up. I just got a factory gauge and tach set for the fleetside too, so it'll be easier to do the same conversion and plumbing with all the part #s figured out

Rain the last 2 days. But finally got 2nd coat of primer done. Will do doors this week and hopefully some color this weekend

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Great work on the interior. It's a lot of hard work but with great dividends.
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
+1 to what PDX said. It's looking great.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks for the kind words guys. The encouragement always helps. I got lucky to find no upper cab issues rust or dent wise. The fleetside has around 30 holes drilled by the PO for every bolt on option he could think of and some speaker grill work, so may just swap in a new dash there.
I haven't sprayed a whole vehicle in almost 20 years. Lots of little stuff, an engine or two and tons of small panels, but I'm really considering doing the color inside the cab. I may let my buddy do the clear, but on the same token....whats the worst that could happen. A few runs and some sanding? So maybe I'll just spray the interior myself.....we'll see. Either way, I want some color this weekend. Will get the doors and jams knocked out this week. POL mounts are here, the headers were shipped Friday....so should see them in a few days. So....finish cab this week. My help will be back this weekend, so engine/trans back out next week and should be a fairly quick reswap on the mounts and headers. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Keep up the good work. :metal:

I did a few "test places" in the fleetside Saturday since we had 2" of rain. The red rattle can is coming off nicely, but the black was sprayed with real paint and will probably get the same treatment as the stepside.....so the process will begin again. I'm hoping to locate a donar dash for the fleetside since it needs so much work to make it right again. If I can find a decent donar, then I'll spend the time to repair this one. |

Got the new headers in...2" primaries hedman htc, got the pol mounts in and painted last week. So...engine out this weekend, new toys bolted on and then trans mount install.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Got the headers from a forum member running the same combo, but his trucks lowered and it lowered his exhaust to far. Im at stock height on a taller tire, so we should be golden...but say your prayers to the truck gods for. Will be glad to have this bump overcome.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Cool!

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Got the driver side door about 90% ready to paint. Will do rest and pass side tomorrow. Now that parts are here im ready to get drivetrain completed.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I just got caught up on your progress. You got alot done while I was off on vacation.
Parts and interior work is looking good! |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Those headers look beautiful. So do the engine towers for that matter.

Was a late day of work, so took the time to just clean and polish up the cluster. Still looks good from restore I did in 2010. I want to seperate turn signals and add a few more lights in the open places on the back. Also want to add some grounds.
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
well at least ur gonna start with 3/4 of a tank of gas according to the gauge!!!
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Haha...right. all gauges working good prior to pulling, so just used a clean paint brush to knock off any dust, polished the lens, polished and waxed the chrome and pulled some light fixtures off an old harness so color and sockets are correct.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I keep a full set of back up gauges for both clusters, but they all read correct and ive only lost a fuel and temp gauge in 20 years. Have had a speedo rebuilt and worm gear replaced, but the gauges were built good and the speedos loosing calibration is the most common issue.
Bowtie bits put a new resistor in a fuel gauge, I used my back up and that ones in the spare box now |

Doesnt take much. Lay the lens on a thin towell over a hard surface. Polish with paste and shirt. Wipe clean. Polish again with clean cloth. I use circular motions and it has taken off overspray and light scratches. Smells decent too unlike most of the products we use. Repeat if needed. |

More cab prep done today. Pulled tank, door gaskets, vents and were really close to paint. Got underdash covered and masked off. Need an extra set of hands to pull glass. Minor work left and primer/paint.

For some reason my phone flipped all the column pics....I'll try again. Doing more prep Saturday....got the 4 speed column cleaned up, prepped, primed and painted. Hadn't touched a compressor gun in near 20 years and no runs in the paint so I was well pleased with progress.
I stuck with spraying outside until the big barn is up...will start work here in a few weeks on that. Luckily, no bugs or debris in paint. We'll mask off the carport with plastic when we do the interior and hose down the floor after a good clean out with the leaf blower. Not the most ideal spot, but its working for now. Got the parts moved into the tool shed to sit overnight. Good thing to, since our weather guy didn't mention the rainstorms that came through about 2 hours after I finished spraying. I know this is small stuff, but I wanted some practice with the new gun before I tackle the cab. I think it'll be ok, so color this week once the rain passes through mon/tues. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Can't wait to see the interior painted!
