Here’s some more pics we’ll share that Dee J took as he was finishing up the install. Can’t say enough about the fantastic customer service and skill set of the people at Semi Service, excellent! Really appreciate everyone’s comments, with just a little over 300 miles on the clock and a short list of to do’s that will wait until spring, put El-Ray away and I’m back in Blue for the rest of winter. Having a real good time teasing my wife that I’m letting my mullet grow while we work on the Camaro! ;) |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Looks fantastic Brett! I'm sure your list of to-do's will get whittled down quick come spring time. What sort of things do you have left?
|
Re: 72 K30 Build
Thanks Rick, how's your truck going? Ours still needs these tweaks in no particular order.
Finish messing with the electric auto choke, works well but stays on a bit too long. Wire up the electric fuel pump correctly (relay, etc.), currently hooked direct with a circuit breaker and rocker switch. Cluster work, not happy with the aftermarket temp gauge doesn’t read correctly (reads colder). Tried 2 known good senders and I do get movement but going to try a factory gauge (resistor?) next. Odometer also has a lazy digit (100th) that needs to be corrected. Remove all the stickers from the bed & tool boxes and detail. 500-mile service on drive train (& check everything) then tow something! Still watching that front timing chain cover seal and have the high heat one if necessary. Everything else is working perfecto' and I can’t wait until spring. :smoke: |
Re: 72 K30 Build
We put old El-Ray in for truck of the month! :ww:
Some really nice "Big" block trucks this month. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
You got my vote. Looks like I gave you a 1 point lead, at least for the moment. Good luck!

Re: 72 K30 Build
You got my vote too! Hopefully more 8 lug guys get in there and help you out!

Re: 72 K30 Build
Done, yea just a bit biased on this one, I think about 4 winners though for workmanship.

For rgreathouse...
Here’s some ugly pics of a cool Longhorn Highlander 4x conversion w/14b and a sweet sway bar setup that was for sale a few years ago. Really, really liked this truck and tried to buy it at that time. It’s setup to haul a big camper level, check out those u-bolts. Knew we weren't going to run overloads and didn't want the truck to squat with load, so the later setup seemed right for us. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
They sure wanted a lot for that orange truck. I had thought real hard about trying to get it. I'm pretty sure that sway bar is from a P-30 chassis camper. I have a 10 bolt D70HD from one with the same type of sway bar.

Been awhile since I've posted so here goes. Here's Ray doing truck stuff, first time towing did great, no problemo! :ito: Took our neglected C10 project up north to a friends body shop for a gap & sealer treatment. Last shot I stole from one of his posts.

Re: 72 K30 Build
Man that turned out nice! I love it!

Beautiful truck!

Re: 72 K30 Build
Truck looks great Brett! You could always run the c/k30 sway bar on this as well. It is made to fit a 14bolt or Dana 70.

Re: 72 K30 Build
Ray looks sweet with a trailer behind him! That grill on what looks to be a model A is sweet. I really love that pic. A Daytona or superbird, and a 54ish corvette gasser? So much awesome there. The C10 will be awesome. Is the Camaro done already?

Re: 72 K30 Build

Thanks Ryan, no on the Camaro not done yet, but big Camaro updates are coming! :ww: That grill belongs to a 29 Dodge with a hemi (customers car). The 54 Vette gasser and soon to be a Daytona belong to Chad, it’s his shop. I’ll tell yah Chad is quite the builder, here’s the original FB post with his 57 Chevy assault vehicle!

Re: 72 K30 Build
I had the opportunity to see this truck in person last night.
All I can say is it is amazing. There is so much detail that you miss through pictures. |

Thanks Zane, I appreciate the compliment. Also, gotta say it is pretty darn kool to meet someone that has followed this build thread! :metal:
Stopped and took a couple more pics of Ray bringing the shorty back from its gap & seal date with CBR. Kuddos to Chad and his guys Spencer & Brandon they did a great job! |

Another summer came and went and unfortunately, we ended up winterizing the K30 a little early this year also. With only about 1500 miles on the clock, I’d hoped to drive it more but it just wasn’t in the cards. We did get to use the truck some this year, mainly just running up and down the highway (300 miles is all) pulling the car trailer. Here are some pics of it doing truck stuff including saving Mrs. 7dee2’s commuter car (her Old Blue). That little car keeps the miles low on our 2017 Chevrolet SS. :metal:

Re: 72 K30 Build
I had been following this build in the past and
somehow loss track. Wow !!! You done a Great Job on the truck. Great documentation of your build also.:metal: . |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it.
|
Re: 72 K30 Build
Very detailed post on a beautiful build. That is a truck that will turn heads for a long time to come. Plus it looks like factory. And may I say that you have skills.
|
Re: 72 K30 Build
Thank you JK!
|
Re: 72 K30 Build
Just wanted to say thanks for such a detailed build. I am using lots of your build details for my 1968 longhorn frame build. I really appreciate the time you spent posting the pictures
