take a big screwdriver and knock the old bearingballs out of the bearing still in the hub then take a stickwelder on high and weld the inner and outer race together when the weld cools the outer race contracts and the bearing just about falls out of the hub on its own (doesnt work when theres an axle sticking in the bearing though) then put the fan on a furnaceplate until spit sissles of it and drop in the new bearing while turning of the heat and les it cool slowly might need to help it in a little with a bush and hammer on the outer race put a dab of extra grease in the bearing to replace the molten grease that prolly ran out and mount it |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I have a press to remove and install the bearings. I just don't have any shims or stock the right size to support the hub to get it secured on the press. These bearings are a sealed unit and 2" thick and roughly 2.5" in diameter. Plus the bearings are $100 ea and a used hub is $150 on up so I really dont want to damage either.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I may still have an offset fan hub here. If you need it I will take a look. I used the intercooled 1st gen hub on mine (with a super-custom spacer for the fan) and that fixed a bunch of issues in one shot. The biggest thing it did was bring the fan back to center where it lined up with the hole in the shroud from the big block.

 Yeah, I'm wanting to sell the white whale. I'd have to get a good cunk for this truck. But I did have a customer try to trade me his dodge today for it. I told him too bad his dodge wasn't a ford. I want the cab room.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Yesterday I got the fenders on, mouldings on the doors and fenders, and installed the fender to door seals, and fresh air assembly in the cowl. Today I'm going to get the cowl, and hood on.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Before I forget, here are the pics of the fender to door seal after I got them done.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...027_104015.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...027_104006.jpg Here's a before pic with the trash guards on the cowl. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...028_145413.jpg Fender emblems. I also put new wood grain on my lower mouldings. A lot of my trim isn't perfect, but I picked the best pieces I had. I plan on repainting the black parts later as I just want to get this thing put together. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...027_162248.jpg I had a friend help me put the cowl on. Boy was that fun. I'm going to have to remove it and pull two shims out of the lh fender. It has too much gap at the top. I installed a new hood to cowl seal and let me tell you, it really causes the hood to shut hard. Anyone else had that problem? I have to modify my hood latch assy now. My hood is held down with a strap for the time being. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...028_145430.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...028_184653.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...028_184716.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...028_184727.jpg |
