Need to remove the trailing arm set-up from the bent frame and use it to replace the :gmc2: leaf spring set-up… ;) I've already had the GM 12 Bolt axles re-worked into the five lug set-up and the Dana rear-end on the GMC has different rear axles...:waah: No worries just gotta grind a bunch of rivets and buy suitable Grade 8 hardware to re-install on the straight frame. |

Just checking in and saying howdy! Nice progress.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
just checking in on you don! I would leave the trailer arms connected to the rearend, so when you have to roll it around it makes it a lil easier to maneuver, gives you a lil bit of leverage on uneven ground! had to do the same to mine with I did all that!! with the holidays, kids in school, and all the overtime I'm getting, along with other side projects, honey-do's! haven't really done anything to my truck in awhile, but look at it, lol!!

Nice to see them come alive, and all having different personalities. Going from here....... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...x/P1030211.jpg To here.... Not much of an update, but some news nonetheless...:mm:
Rian, aka Grizz, needed some butt welding clamps and due to the ridiculous cost in the UK, I offered to drop by HF and grab him a set, the cost plus postage will still come in less than a comparable set in the UK…;) While there I couldn't resist a set of impact u-joints… we will see how they hold up...:sumo: I also needed a dead blow hammer, so why not a Big Orange one... Thanks to Rian, he clued me in to a guy on FB offering up some 64-66 C10 parts FREE, just had to pay postage… As soon as I pulled up the post, I spotted a complete Instrument panel with Gauges...:bann: I was fortunate enough to make the first comment, and following some messaging back and forth, I snagged the cluster...:uhmk: I went to the US Postal Service only to find that I wash't able to send a prepaid box through them… Oh well, off to UPS… This past Friday I received a message from the sender and he assured me the box was on the big brown truck heading my way, along with more goodies to pay it forward...:chevy: 7 Days after dropping off the Box and paying the shipping charges up front, the box returned...:metal: Not one, but TWO clusters were packed in, the Gauge one I wanted along with the more generic "Idiot" light cluster... Here's a pic of the aforementioned tools and the Cluster...:chevy::chevy::chevy: |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
For anyone that has perused this ongoing saga, you may remember I refurbed my "Idiot" light cluster and converted to a White Face look…;) That one will remain shelved for now… who knows what the future holds for it...:mm:
I will be using the Astronaut's thread and refurb this one as well as add a Tach…Rev Counter for our UK Mates...:metal: |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Well done Don .
Rian is always on the lookout for parts, but best of all he lets his friends know when they come up as well . Thanks for helping me last night with my parts from top banana. It's nice to have friends that side of the pond to forward on parts . I can't wait till October |

Thanks for picking up the clamps Don. Martin knows how my head works, I never try to make money out of stuff I can get for free, and am happy to send you to the "vendor" direct. This is an amazing community, and there is a helluva lot of goodwill out there, why not add to it. Glad you got the clusters as well, I like the idea of changing the face and nature of a truck from time to time, even if it is just summer and winter wheels. |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
nice score on the cluster... and tools to boot.
|
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Thanx Guyz...:metal:
Hey Clem, Stay warm during these next handful of days… Seems all this "Global Warming" stuff has our neck of the woods feeling more like my childhood days in the Chicago area...:uhmk: |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Nice score on the cluster! I want to eventually put one of those in mine too. Props on helping out the fellas across the pond as well. :bowtie:

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Outstanding all the way around. I'm also a firm believer in paying it forward. Much more enjoyable than short term profits.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
As requested by Ta2Don.
I hope it is helpful to some who need a new glovebox. I have drawn up the outline of a self build/fold glovebox (cubby hole) that can be folded from 0.8mm sheet metal or ally, then riveted or tack welded to keep together. I made one as a trade for some side view mirrors last year. I trust you guys can understand the measurements and destructions. If you have various types of air on, fresh air pipes behind the dash, you may need to edit or nip the rear corner to make everything fit. Shout if you need more info. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0b2d7428.jpg |

Thanks Grizz… although my glovebox is a repop in good condition, I dig the idea of the metal one...:metal:
Today turns out to be the coldest day around here since last winter, and I skip outta work early because my daily driver's rear brakes on the Driver's side started making weird noises yesterday… so with the help of my neighbor who had a reared sitting in his yard (brakes and all), last year I was able to grab the axles for my DD off the same rearend… so after getting his okay, we grabbed some pliers and grabbed all the parts, and an hour later my DD is road-worthy once again… After explaining all that, here's a pic of what I experienced when I removed the brake drum... Thankfully the wheel cylinder hadn't popped the pistons... |

Old man weather finally relented a bit...:bann:
Today was Sunny with the high getting to 64 or 65…too busy enjoying some truck time to get the correct high temp... 17 C for my mates in the UK... Rolled the ratrod project out into the sunshine and rolled the bent frame in… See the 2 pics of the separate rails... Borrowed a friend's Plasma Cutter and proceeded to do away with the exhaust pipes that were welded in place...:sumo: then on to the rivets that were holding the trailing arms in place… then the cross member where the shocks bolt to and then the Track arm bracket… Plasma Cutter sure makes short work of those rivets...:metal: Enjoy the pics... |

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Floor needs a sweep Don
Weather looked good, we were around 3'C late afternoon. I used a plasma cutter a few years ago to cut the centres out of some rims I was using the hoops from to widen some special centres......... Whoooooosssshhhh..! And the job was done. Kept looking for more stuff to cut. Retro's looks neat with motor in place. |
