You're right on the location. I have mine mounted to the bumper bolts. I wonder why the change? You think the factory did not want to keep punching extra holes?

Notice the location of the bumper guards. I have seen them mounted out side of the frame rails but do not recall seeing them inside.

I don't know why the change but bolting on the bumper bolts would definitely be easier and look cleaner. Interesting how they changed stuff over the years.

I was riding down Valencia Street on my motorcycle and pulling into the taqueria for a burrito. When I stopped in front of the place this guy came running out yelling Earthquake, Earthquake, and at that moment I felt the ground rolling under my feet and the building swaying back and forth. It was over and I went in and got my burrito. Later on I learned how bad it was.

Photo is definitely not from 1989, photo is from the 1971 San Fernando quake.

Another from San Fernando.
I was probably playing with my Tinker Toys in 1971.

Thanks for posting! I see the similarities between the two. I took this photo in '86 when these GMC's went to auction.

Yep, even without a canopy.
I had a friend who got killed when the driver drove off a levee and the truck flipped over on those in the back.

I tried to find the nostalgia link but had no luck.

I notice that the two trucks don't have the rear bumpers and the guys trying to take one off the car, Bumper thief!

It looks like it might fit.

What do you suppose the guy that is standing up is stealing off the pickup?
