Bought parts from Rockauto tonight. Another 400 bucks hard earned money being used on a good cause.

Drove it below " E " to my favorite Pick-A-Part Yard where they let me in the back to search amongst the junkers in storage , I found a '72 C/30 they got in over a month ago , it has a complete 292 I6 , plus a '69 C/10 with a pretty good cab (non AC) ~ I pulled up the carpets along both A Pillars and didn't see any holes , the rockers don't even have rust bubbles .

These trucks (and a whole buncha other vehicles) won't be released until late August so I'll keep looking but this may be the cab I'm looking for .

I also need to address my oil drinking engine ~ I don't want to repair the current 250 CID , I'd rather slap in a decent 292 .

Then I drove to Gardena (hi Vince !) and pumped 19.999 gallons into it ~
I guess it really does have a 20 gallon fuel tank .

Your luck is better than mine. When mine is on E you better find a gas pump.

When mine's on "E" you better find a gas *can*.
And a bank.

Well ;

Making a fuel gauge accurate isn't difficult , it just takes time (who has that ?!) and diligence .

Right. And, as for my preference, I think it's accurate if the needle hits empty and you're out of gas.
I really try to keep mine about 3/4 full all the time. Don't know why. I just do. Everything's new in my
fuel gauge set up, and I still had to bend the float-bar to get it where *I* like it....

I suppose it's also good for some folks if they know it's full when it shows 1/2..........Or any points in between
that you've worked out with the bugger.

As long as it's consistent.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Spent most of the day cleaning parts for the 292 I'me overhauling ~ the oil pan was seriously over tightened and gooped with RTV so mucho hand cleaning there , soon I'll dress the pooched in bolt holes with my ball pien hammer .

Two cylinders have some rust so I washed them with Oxycilic Acid then ran a wire wheel in my drill motor to clean up those cylinders , looks to me like it'll need boring and I think it's already .040" so I may sell this block to a Hot Rodder who'll want to bore it to .060" anyway .

Loaded it up and took the 4Runner out wheeling and drug what amounted to be dead weight to the offroad park 100 miles. The 4Runner wound up not running so on top of tow duties it got the wheeling duties and several trips to the parts house trying to get the Runner back to running. Had some fun with the family on our first camping trip and my daughter loved bouncing around on the lighter trails in the big truck. I'm gonna have to get the gear ratios changed up to some lower gears as it lacked as far as pulling up hills but it did good. Not sure whats in there right now but they are definitely not geared for towing.

Everybody at the park loved the tow rig and I felt like I was gonna have to wipe spooge off of it after this weekend.

A couple of the real rigs playing around.

So that's what I did to my truck this weekend since it is running great even dragging a few extra thousand pounds around.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Drove it to The Coffee House @ 0-Dark:30 where everyone liked it even dirty & loaded up with old car parts .

Then off to Pick-A-Part East where I lucked into a 1979 G/10 retired 'phone van that still had the (untouched) late version 250 I6 & Turbo Hydro tranny , I grabbed the l o n g dip sticks & tubes for both so now I won't have to reach past my radiator to do my daily oil checks.....

I also grabbed the engine lifting brackets and HEI .

I found a '70 GMC camper Special with rust free cab but some one before me , had cut out the dash corner AC vents , ruining it :waah: .

One of these dayze I'll find a nice cab .

I also found & stripped a 1960 Metropolitan Nash FHC , that was a really good , hard find .

Working on removing the blower motor for the A/C and heater, stuck on one bolt that annoyed the hell out of me, couldn't find the right size so I called it a day. lol

I managed to twist the head off of one of the bolts holding in the gas tank. Oh well, only one more bolt to remove now! :smoke:

Small steps, small steps.....

Running after 5 years? Way to go dude! That gives me encouragement that I can get mine going before the fall.
